nice win from the Reds. Good defensive work in the second half. Lots of players stood out but for me Genia and kerevi were the pick of the bunch. Genia looks in vintage form. Kerevi is a just a beast. He's really going to light up Suncorp this season

Great night at Ballymore. Good to see the players mixing with the crowd before and after the game.
Note to the QRU without trying to sound like a piss head. Learn how to pour a beer. Went into the queue with 18mins on the clock in the first half got out 3 mins into the second.
Crying poor and fleecing the clubs when you guys left $50k plus in unserved beverages. Because of piss poor organisation.
Now that my rant is over, awesome atmosphere, game and crowd, Ballymore's the soul of qld rugby.

Apologies if someone has already mentioned this, but the crowd was 11,270 I believe (or near enough to).

Pretty decent turn out for Ballymore these days.

I can never truly understand Kerevi. I mean I would love him at the Force but I just don't understand him. He gets the ball like at the end of that trial and it doesn't seem like he is moving super fast but noone even gets close to tackling him. It was the same against the Force last year in Perth. It's almost like everyone thinks he is impossible to tackle or that someone else will tackle him so noone bothers. Crazy.

What about the main sponsor? It was white, just for this game?

Went into game, enjoyed it, thought Reds would be pretty happy how they played, will be interesting to see if both teams play same style when it all gets serious from next week. Thought Hunt went ok at 10, without doing anything outstanding he seemed to dp all basics well, which I think is awful important for player coming back into game. Saders midfield looked pretty confused on defence a few times, but it could of been because Reds put them in 2 minds.
And Waiopehu, if Mitch Drummond gets injured you need to swap to Canes as team to support as Guyton looked like Genia at his worst at halfback last night, always about 3-4 steps before he passed, will kill any quick ball Crusaders win in serious games!

^^^^^^ Me switch to the Horrorcanes? Never in a million years, mate. As for Guyton, funnily enough he's one of yours - WTS & 1 match from the bench last year, I believe - but all good, Ellis heading home in time for the business end of things & you don't win the comp in February!

It's sort of like a Motorcycle going 60mph and a Hummer going 45mph and the relative damage they cause on impact. The Hummer also has a turbo booster that kicks off right before contact.

Caught the first 17 or so minutes of the trial, good match and great commentary so far! McDuling has some golden pipes, I sense a future in sports commentary. Unfortunately I've got to tune in to the Sheep Shaggers v. the POMs for a bit so I can write an honest match review

Jaw hit the floor when JJ made that tackle in the opening minutes of the match, if he can fix his defense he goes from liability to asset almost instantly. It looks like our defensive organization on the whole is still struggling though.

Early on there was a very soft overlap on the right side where CFS was caught backpedalling against 3 or so defenders down our sideline. Fortunately the move didn't end up going anywhere but it only happened (same with JJ's open-field tackle) because on a prior phase there were 4-5 players milling around a 5m-10m blindside with no opposition lined up there/milling around behind the ruck. Our defensive mathematics need a go-over and players have to work harder to get to where the ball will be, not just where it currently is.

Thor just posted this photo. Anyone know who he played for? Wasn't the Reds. Did he play the curtain raiser?

Exact same problem last year. You would think they realise the opportunity missed last year and make as much cash as possible. Unless the subbie it to Spotless in which case they should be getting much bigger dollar for the rights so Spotlesss is motivated to make money. Simple things that always seem to defy logic.....

I believe they played in special jerseys for this one. Can't quite remember the details but it had something to do with a charity? I'm looking at it on my phone but that Jersey looks like it's got the St George Foundation logo on it.

Yeah. Was a charity match for the st George foundation. Brothers jnrs started a program, with a charity called GingerCloud, creating a rugby program for intellectually disabled children. It was fantastic. The St.George foundation donated $50k to the program and it will be expanded to 5 clubs this year.

Pity it's only for this game, I really like that jersey, best they've played in for some time.

Remember the early 90's when they had pissman walking around with a beer back pack topping everyone off? Great days.

Curtain raiser was Qld Tonga vs Whenua according to the youtube stream. Qld Tonga had a different jersey, so no.

I bet it was the U20s Reds squad, Reg. Any info on that?

I must commend REDS TV for this broadcast, even though it was one camera.

Reg, your audio was echoey - was it the microphone?

Reds forwards did pretty well - barely noticed anyone from the other lot except Todd. Lineout and scrum for QLD was pretty good, allowing Hunt to have a solid game.

Reg - something up with your microphone? Your audio was up and down a fair bit at points, though generally OK, and it sounded like a loose connection or something. Dave's was a bit quiet by comparison.
