Okay, I admit a degree of bias, but that was a great win by the Woodies.


Actually, it was a great advertisement for the code. Other than for the usual petulance displayed by Princess Thomasina.

Comprehensive win by Manly.
The Wicks didn't lack ticker and kept trying, but without Horwitz, Kellaway and Auvasa they had no answer to the Marlins defence. In attack the Marlins had too much go forward and pace out wide. Surely the Marlins must make the GF this year.

At least the Wicks won all other grades and all colts -- some consolation!

Fourths a tight affair with Manly leading against the play for much of the match. Finally the Wicks got ahead to take the win.12-10
Thirds score line not indicative of a very close game for two thirds of the match with an avalanche at the end. Benny and Bennet were standouts 41-15
Seconds kept the visitors scoreless but manly had a few opportunities but for spilt ball. This was a close well fought game. Beetle had a blinder 16-0
Firsts took a while to get organised in the back line and Manly took advantage out wide to get comfortably ahead early. Wicks fought back and had respectability for the rest of the match. Manly had a number of very good players but imo Gower was their best.
The sideline at halfway was a sea of blinding white with what looked like a miss world pageant. Winners everyone of them.

Where to from here? That's not sustainable.

The only way out of this quagmire is for one/all of RU's to contribute $300k a year for 6-8 years to fund a Gen Manager and 2 Development Officers ( who play 1st grade) to rebuild the juniors and continue the rebuild of their colts.
The rest of us then need the patience to wait for the results to flow through.
If you just prop up first grade, it is short term and won't last.

If that doesn't happen then say good bye to Penrith and rugby in the west.
There will be a presence at Subbies level but that will be all.

You are quite right, if Penrith were in Subbies, players with higher ambitions would probably leave, those who like playing local or with their mates would stay.
I not criticising the Penrith crew who no doubt are working their buts off.
The point I am making is that the status quo is unsustainable and unfair on both the Penrith crew and their respective opposition.
The situation needs resolving either with a long term plan or a short term change of completion.

The model of providing support with development officers working the area and playing with the club has worked previously. I cant remember the names but there was a ex country 2nd rower filling that role (with others) before NSWRU pulled the plug.
In fairness to the NSWRU they had no money at the time.

As said below it was good to watch a solid 80 minute game, what is pleasing on that - I reckon we can lift a number of levels.​

Get in your car one day and drive from Manly to Cronulla.
Then do it another four times in the same week.
That way you will have some appreciation of what Manly centre Dennis Pili-Gaitau goes through most weeks to ensure he's delivering for the Marlins each Saturday.
The quick-stepping centre travels in the opposite direction - the Shire to Manly – for training, recovery and on match day, but the heavy travel load hasn't dulled his brilliance.
In fact, it's been the complete opposite.
The No.13 was arguably Manly's best in a comprehensive 34-3 win over Randwick at Coogee Oval on Saturday.
And he's been close to their best every week since arriving from New Zealand.
"I love it here - it is still a long drive from Cronulla – but I'm loving my rugby and I'm enjoying the environment," Pili-Gaitau said after Saturday's win.
"I make the trip up to five times a week depending on where we're playing but it's not a problem.
"I just get the music going and go over the words to Manly Boom Boom."
It's a song Pili-Gaitau is becoming very familiar with after the Marlins banked their seventh straight win of the season.
A tremendous first half set things up, with tries to Chris Yarrington, BJ Hartmann and Dave Porecki – backed-up by a penalty try – establishing a 29-3 lead at the break.
Randwick lifted in the second half but never looked like mounting any sort of challenge.
The Marlins scored their fifth and final try, to Mitch Lewis, right on fulltime but could have easily had another two or three.
"I don't know how long it has been since they haven't score a try on their home ground," Manly coach Damien Cummins said of the Galloping Greens.
"We gave them nothing to be quite honest.
"We played pretty much the say we wanted to play and what was really nice is we played 80 minutes without really faltering."
On the performance of Pili-Gaitau, Turtle said: "Dennis was huge. He carried the ball well and in defence I don't think he missed one tackle."
The Marlins boss was also full of praise for debutant Mitch Daniel, while Dane Maraki, Tank Collins, Ed Gower and Sam Lane were also top shelf.
"We didn't have a bad player," Cummins said.
No argument there.
Manly's next assignment is a big one: Undefeated competition leaders Eastwood at Manly Oval.

Well a trip to Randwick, and the Wicks are sitting comfortably throughout the grades and one could say flying under the radar after last year. With Melrose, Vail and Dombkins having a week off there were a few changes to the piggies in 2's – in came Phelps, Baranyi and Meaney, and changes impact continuity so we had to play hard and tight.
We were camped in our own half for the first 15 minutes, and they converted territory into points with 2 penalties and a good try by running a tight channel. We opted to play ball in hand rugby and turned down 4 shots at goal in the first half and opted for the line out, unfortunately the continuity at the line outs didn't result in points and the Wicks returned us back down field – 13 nil at oranges and it could have been a 1 point game.

Second half we created allot more opportunities but unfortunately a forward pass, or ball to ground didn't allow us to finish with meat pies, yet Randwick took the shots at goal at every opportunity only kicking 1 from 3 in the second half. Northam created some real spark on the right hand flank in the last 20, and more game time will no doubt see the rewards. Final score 16-0 to Wicks.
Didn't walk away with the points however we only leaked 1 try, and played ball in hand rugby - Wicks currently have the best for and against in 2's and we can lift a number of gears.
Great seeing a number of colts starting to step up now as well.

I guess I can sort of understand Tui Tuisavaii heading to Gordon as there will be a 12 position available once Tom Matthews heads to France. I wonder though how much first grade Tagicakibau will see at Manly as they always seem to have great depth in the outside backs. Always sad to see players leave a club that invested greatly in them but unfortunately that is just how it is in Rugby today.

I went to T.G.Millner on Saturday. A great match, great weather.

The lead changed several times, But Eastwood won in the end - congratulations to them.

Byron Hodge was the kicker.

The only other lock who kicked at goal that I can remember is John Eales.
