I don't think any team in scotland is despised but Melrose used to sign a lot of boys from other areas and had a lot of success that led to most clubs particularly other borders teams upping their game against them shall we say

Thats one of the weakest Sydney Uni sides I have seen in the last 15 years.

But some useful players in 2nds (ie Benn Melrose, Stuart Dunbar and Angus Roberts) so presumerably the no name players picked in 1sts are playing better rugby than them.

Roberts was a pro footballer in 2013/14 and Uni prefer to start 2 colts in front of him.
Either the Rebels or Uni got it very wrong!

I'm going to post this one up in a couple of threads, as I think it will be a great annual event - Shute finishes earlier now to fit in the NRC;

There maybe allot of players still wanting to run around.Or it maybe an end of season tour / - not a bad place for a tour.
  • Interested clubs?
  • The NRC clubs may field a team (Fringe players)?
  • There maybe NSW subbies rep side or 2?

Rebels probably signed him a year or two before his time, for a number of reasons including Hills Uni connection and the lack of Quality halfs willing to come.

Was then forced into playing and starting far too early because of injuries and indiscretions to Kingi, Woodward, Beale and JOC (James O'Connor).

Had a solid debut at home, playing full back, before the massacre in SA, where he'd been switched to fly half. 2 horrible games robbed him of all confidence, and he then found himself injured against the Chiefs later in the season.

Came back into the season late, played against the BILs for us and the CC rep side, as well as the Highlanders game. Started in the abysmal performance against the Force in 2014, and never found himself in TTs plans again.

Think his confidence and body just need a lot of time to rebuild. He's got the tools, but I'd still be betting nothing is going right up top.

Thanks mate, one of the better posts

Good win to Southern, they killed us at the breakdown.

Souths recent record against Eastwood is amazing. Excluding the Grand final they're all close. Souths beat them twice at TG in 2012 IIRC too.

Gregor George Cup (Club Championship) Watch:
It is rather tight at the top as the usual suspects jockey with their positions and consolidate their lead at the top of the table.

There are a maximum of 215 points available to a club each week, based on all 7 club teams winning with a 4 try BP and the target to win is >3000 points which was achieved by 3 clubs last year. In 2014 the difference between 1st and 2nd was only 33 points, with 3rd only 52 points further back.

Randwick, 1906 points
Eastwood, 1861 points
Sydney University, 1823 points
Manly, 1756 points
Northern Suburbs, 1461 points
Eastern Suburbs, 1299 points
West Harbour, 1254 points (up 2 places)
Gordon, 1248 points (down 1 place)
Southern Districts, 1207 points (down 1 place)
Warringah, 1183 points
Parramatta, 719 points
Penrith, 100 points

How the Club Championship table is calculated.
The competition points from the individual competitions are multiplied by the following factors and then added together.
First Grade - 15
Second Grade - 8
Third Grade - 5
Fourth Grade - 4
Colts 1 - 6
Colts 2 - 3
Colts 3 - 2

The 33 point difference between Gold and Silver last year could have been made up from an extra 2 BP in Shute Shield and an extra BP in Colts 2, or an extra victory without a BP in 2nd Grade and an extra BP in Colts 3.

Great win by Southern yesterday. The 7Two coverage is improving, though not enjoying Cam Shepherd's commentary contribution - though it is a lot better than Papworth. Why did the two teams play each other when they last met 3 week's ago?

Emus vs Pirates
I saw some of 3rd grade - was not pretty viewing from a neutral eye
2nd grade - decent game I guess in patches but Pirates way to fit and strong Dave Harvey showed up well - kicking a conversion from the sideline as if it were in front of the posts
1st grade - close first have at times, discipline really letting Emus down, intercept try from the 10 and a great run from the 11 to worry the Pirates for a while
2nd half Pirates came out on blew the Emus away, going down to 14 men for a fair chunk of the game combined with their forwards poor fitness meant it was only poor decisions and handling that kept the score under 60
Rory Clegg had a good outing at 12 and the first try was pure class from him
easy to see why he has played at a higher level

Someone asked earlier why Emus are so poor this season, well from this game no-one stood out, the 11 has pace and power but last season there were 4 or 5 that looked good in a losing side but now there are 8 or 9 that look out of place in 1st grade. As above their discipline was shocking and they were lucky that they didn't see more yellow cards (how the scrum half wasn't carded a few times I don't know)

That being said as always a warm welcome to Nepean Park and the Emu burger is still the best in the Shute Shield!

Looking at the ladder could not help notice the massive gap between Souths 1st grade and 2nds and 3rds. Not sure what's happening there?
