All this controversy about the pitch invasion has taken the shine away from the Newington Co- Premiership. Whether you respect it or hate it, what Newington as a school did for their team was something to be admired. The Newington 1st XV worked hard all season and it was nice to see a school share the win with the team. Anyway, this is just my 2 cents worth. Now lets focus on the 2016 season and goodluck.

You need to settle down mate, of course it won't happen next year but you have to respect what the school did for its First XV

Now, I would say the 3rd XV comp was dominated this year.

Having watched them throughout the season I would have to agree, the Joeys 3rd XV really put together a great year, a powerful brand of rugby that meant they managed to control the ball and in the end the scoreboard.

Coming off the Round 1 Bye and then having played Grammar, Armidale and High all away made it all the more special and the boys managed to keep their defensive wall at home in tact, not conceding a try on SJC No1 all year.

So I'm sure the Yr12 boys will all walk away with some great memories from their final year of school rugby and those Yr11 lads will hopefully all go on to bigger and better things in 2016, just maybe not with the same amount of Thirsty dominance and big smiles on their heads every Saturday.

Well played boys, great entertainment all year.

As an Old Boy I'm very disappointed to hear this. Please contact the Headmaster Dr Mulford and I'm sure he will take the appropriate action, if indeed it has not already been taken.

As an old boy, you shouldn't be too disappointed. As I said in a previous post, the current school boys who ran on to the field after the winning try did so in a spontaneous celebration of the victory following two very close, very tense and very hard-fought matches - I can't speak for the old boys at the northern end, and won't try to - I'm not an old boy myself, so haven't been in that situation.

Describing the behaviour of all of the Newington supporters as despicable is petty and nasty and wrong. The very large crowd of parents & boys on the western bank adhered to the code of conduct throughout the afternoon, as they do every week, and to suggest otherwise is simply malicious. There was no abuse of the opposition from this crowd, but there was a great deal of very vocal support for the victorious 1sts and 2nds teams.

The headmaster expressed his displeasure about the boys running on to the field at the end of the match at the after-match function and no doubt there will be ramifications - I only hope the response isn't too over the top.

And finally, when the dust settles, and the frothing at the mouth eases off, there should be some acknowledgement of the great rugby that was played on Saturday afternoon in the 2nds and 1sts - both games had great displays of power in the forwards and finesse in the backs, and if the Yr 12 boys from school go on to play Colts and then Grade with the same level of skill and tenacity as they displayed on the weekend, then NSW & Australian rugby will be the better for it.

Both sides have had their say about the pitch invasion during the NEW v VIEW game.

It is unlikely that anyone will be able to add value to what has already been posted.

If you feel strongly about the issue or poor crowd behaviour by individuals or small groups, then you should really contact the School you are associated with to speak directly with the Head of School, or Head of Sport and register your concerns. I am sure that they would welcome your input.

No Head of School, Head of Sport, Rugby Director will condone any pitch invasion that interrupts a game, if it is a single streaker or a mass invasion, and they will be taking what they believe are the appropriate corrective measures within their own school to deal with the miscreants, and to put in place measures to reduce the risk of recurrence.

Time to move on from pitch invasions and crowd behaviours, and talk about footy.

NO MORE POSTS ON THE ISSUE.

Do not end the season moaning about crowd behaviour.

All schools have problems from time to time, and nothing posted on an anonymous internet forum will change that.

On a brighter note at Northbridge it was a much better performance by the local boys.Up 5-0 after 20 mins the Shore forwards were retaining the ball ...at last and the backs spearheaded by #15 Lachie Patrick were putting pressure on the Joey's backs.# 9 Oscar Lane converted this pressure with a darting run to score. Joeys bounced back to lead 7-5 till just before halftime. Shore were on top until a poor kick was charged down with Joys going in under the posts now 14-7.
After the break Shore had the breeze but a tactical blunder by the inside backs saw them trying to run it out from the inside the 22.A bad pass and knock on then lead to a Joeys try ,now down 21-7 which really broke the Shore boys hearts , as the were really neck and neck in terms of general play.

Joeys scored again not long after to go to 28-7 and things started to look grim .Gittoes was leading the pack well and Joeys were starting to roll .
However Shore came back and strong games from Jake Hedge , captain Bragg , "Rabs" Santone and Rory Suttor up front kept the game alive.
Oscar Lane was having a great game driving the forwards and sniping around the rucks.
Sam Allen had another strong game against the hard running Eddy King, Shore scored towards the end with Jake hedge finishing of a good move to score near the posts. It was a good entertaining game to finish off the season.
Shore should have a good team next year barring injury They will have #9 Haskins,12 Sinclair, 11 Gregory 15 Sheehan and the speedster 14 or 15 Rixon in the backs. Up front they will have # Luke Edwards now year 10 an outstanding talent ,Rory Suttor at 5 and Robin Allen at 6.
.Former wallaby Tim Wallace's son played 10 in the 2nds all year and lead them around the park really well.So if they get the bright people in charge they will have a much better year.
Well done to all boys from all teams who played some fabulous footy this year and congrats to New and Scots who both showed their true ability by being able to come from behind in games that seemed lost.
Cheers for 2015 its been fun.

Moving on from the pitch invasion Back To Newington Day was a great success. The whole atmosphere of the day was electric and the build for the "show down" in the 1sts was much anticipated. The amazing sight of the tunnel at the start of the game sent shivers down everyones spine and the rowdy old boys added to this. The game....wow what a thriller, an absolute hit out babababey. Defence was not on the cards at all for both teams. Nervous moments at the end of the game especially when #4 almost dropped the ball. But all was good and the day finished on a high note. Well done to the Newington coaching staff with big Brad Gill getting his 4th premiership.

It was also a very proud moment for senior deez ebola nuts to see junior deez ebola nuts run out for the second week in a row for the 1st XV. Self proclaimed best memory at school for bigSyd. Good bunch of blokes backed up by a great bunch of coaches.
Deez ebola nuts out.

I thought Shore played some of their best football yesterday. really held their shape. Played positive text book rugby. Not too many errors, passes were good, ball was retained for long periods.

It was a very good game, Joeys showed their class and capitalized on a few errors.

If we took away mongrel dog tries ( a charge down & regather off a Shore kick, when in attack and a 22 restart -also on attack, short grubbered to the fastest man on the field, and so much debate over whether it should have even been a 22) - take away those 2 and the score would have been 14-12 . And then Shore were charging at the line - wide open and the ref blew the game up for safety as there was an injured Joeys player down. Ref made the right call but any other day it looked like try time.

Typical of the season, nothing went Shores way, plagued with injuries etc.

But next year a very competitive side will formed, and many of them will be selected for rep honors.

Take yer luck when you can get it. "If we took away mongrel dog tries (a charge down & regather off a Shore kick, when in attack and a 22 restart -also on attack, short grubbered to the fastest man on the field, and so much debate over whether it should have even been a 22).....", those instances of bad luck are somewhat counter-balanced by Shore's good luck at Hunters Hill in 1998: a Joeys grubber rebounded off a Shore's player's shins which the Shore lad gratefully grabbed and scarpered off for a try while all the Joeboys were running the other way. Followed by a ball rebounding off a goal post straight into a Shore boy's arms a moment before he fell over the goal-line.

Swings and roundabouts. Although some say good teams make their own luck.

End Of Season Fun,
Any takers to Choose a GPS 1st XV ...with 2 players from EACH school, 1back and 1 forward .. that's 12. the last 3 can be from any team, but 3 is a max from any school. Players must have played at least 5 comp games to qualify. Should be a pretty good team even without some Aust Schoolboys.

Long memory. 1998! Only 17 seasons ago so that's lots of swings, roundabouts and mongrels.

I thought the overall standard of refereeing this season was not up to where it was last year. They are human and make mistakes. Just as the players and coaches do, but some of the decisions, or lack of decisions I witnessed just didn't leave me feeling the quality of refereeing matched the quality of play. Maybe the refs are a year older and the boys are getting just a bit faster, but it wasn't great. Hopefully we may see some of the younger breed doing some gps games next year.

but he wasn't in any of the photos, unusual for someone that played such an integral part of the Premiership

Maybe he was lost in the chaos, his presence running water would indicate that he certainly felt part of the team. Maybe just not in the right place when the photos were taken.
