So how many wins this season for the Reds is a pass mark for the coach and administration. Heard a lot with RG re appointment and since about re building etc. I reckon 3 wins will be achieved hope it's a lot more but keen to hear views on what is a pass mark for Dick.

I remarked earlier that he can't possibly fail this coming season.

RG's past results have set a very low benchmark - he was reappointed with 3 wins. He has the "added bonus" of having a very "raw" team this year compared to the previous teams filled with developed talent. Therefore he can afford fewer wins this year.

A zero win season can easily be justified as a "rebuild year" and/or "necessary learning period" and other crap.

The press releases this year have pretty much said as much.

I expect precisely as much as the Reds expect to win this year.

I wonder if a team could survive with every ticket being a lifetime membership. The money could be saved and interest paid to the team to fund operations. The club hold the "shares" that can only be traded through the club for a transfer fee.

Maybe the 30,000 best seats sold at $5000 each would be $150,000,000 in the bank. Even at 4% this would return $6 million before tax ( I am assuming that an accountant could reduce this tax somehow, maybe the Bahamas Reds would work).

Add in sponsor and it might be a way to secure a future.

QC (Quade Cooper) citizenship clearly is no Reds issue,there were plenty of others complaining about the trial jerseys without being ridiculed.
And the Reds trying to 'reclassify' the lifetime memberships is worthy of criticism.

Thanks for your support, "I like to watch". My thoughts on this are, given that Quade has been "on the books" at the Reds for around 10 years, someone within the organisation should have raised the possibility of a "citizenship problem", as soon as he became interested in Rugby Sevens, presumably mid 2015, (or earlier). If no one at the Reds knew he only has a Kiwi passport, then, yes, "someone" in management has been slack.
BTW, well done the Ladies 7s for beating Canada 29-0 in the final.

Honestly if professional athletes are so poor at individual responsibility then I think his highly paid manager should take some responsibility, it's not really in the Reds interests or responsibility to have Quade qualified for Rio...

Great idea, only minus inflation and CPI. You'd need to roll over at least 1 or 2 % of your return to maintain the income stream in real terms.

I have to ask what do "managers" do for their percentage when not involved in the yearly/three yearly etc contract negotiations?

Genuine question because it seems to me they don't really "manage" much, well in these high profile cases anyway. Surely a manager should be planning career paths and ensuring the key requirements are met by the player if they elect to go down those paths. In other words do some managing while the player does their bit by training and playing.

I didn't think I was bagging the Reds. I didn't think I bagged anybody, maybe his manager, for not making sure the key requirements of the stated career path were met. not Reds issue that Quade on kiwi passport but sure hope Aru hasn't paid for a player in sevens program that doesn't actually qualify to olympics rather embarrassing. QRU management have done enough embarrassing things like hiring and firing knuckles ( what happened with that legal case) K hunt vice captain before he played a game, losing Gill over RG, without worrying about where Lyn Crowley has to sit!

If it's anything like last season's match in Sydney, I am a high chance of needing 10-30 beers to get through watching it.

We're $4 underdogs at the TAB and if anything, our trial form suggests that should be closer to $5.

Financial management, product/sponsor deals/negotiations/management, any legal issues involving the athlete - those seem to be the general functions when not directly involved in player contract negotiations.

Queensland Rugby Union chairman Rod McCall is to stand down from his position at next month’s annual general meeting — and that could be ominous for Reds coach Richard Graham.

McCall’s term as chairman was not due to expire for another year, but it is understood that a longstanding neck injury — a carry-over from his days as a member of Australia’s first World Cup-winning side, the 1991 Wallabies — has prompted the decision.

It is fair to say Graham would not have been reappointed Queensland coach had McCall not been so adamant that he should retain the job.

If the rumours are to be believed, the Reds’ performances over the first four rounds of the competition — against the Waratahs, Western Force, Rebels and Blues — could be crucial to Graham’s survival.

The Blues match is set down for March 19, the date of the AGM. The incoming chairman will be Damien Frawley, the former Wallaby and Queensland Investment Corp boss. It is understood he had reservations about how the coaching position was resolved.

yeah I had mentioned that previously. His term has been constitutionally run. I believe a few others from the Board are due to step down too including Chris White I think?

I like Frawley coming in as Chairman. Seems a good operator. His relationship with the current CEO will be interesting.
