The Wallabies Thread

My all time favorite Wallaby backline was the 2003 Cook Cup at Docklands

Chris Latham, Wendell Sailor, Morgan Turinui, Steve Kefu, Joe Roff, Nathan Grey, George Gregan (captain)

Eddie's theories were disproved by him failing to consistently defeat the All Blacks. Oh, how I pine for those days when we consistently defeated the All Blacks, and the rugby theories that made it possible, so we could implement them now.

Eddie's nadir of course was that embarrassment at Twickenham. I've never forgotten that, nor have I forgiven him for it.

Yeah, I was there. But I find it hard to blame Jones. Who else was he to pick in the front row? We do loseto England: that's in the nature of a 65% win record. If heads had to roll after each loss, there'd be no heads left.

More the manner of the loss than anything else. There was a deliberate move away from the set piece as a focus and we paid for it. That made me pretty angry as a Wallaby fan.

Certainly a deliberate move away from the scrum, and towards the breakdown. The lineout setpiece was world class.

Jones was an experimenter, as we also know from having two sevens. I don't think the Wallabies suffered much from his coaching. We endured a humiliation, but also some memorable wins.

He was undoubtedly the best set move coach we've had.

I guess the point is you have to have balance, in the centers as a unit and in the backline as a whole between guys that carry strongly and guys that create/use space for others. You also can't pigeonhole your players into your preferred system, you create a system to best utilize the collective skill sets of the player. Right now Australia has more ball carrying 13's and second 5 type 12's. In fact the only sides that play the big 12, distributing 13 are the Rebels with Inman/Ellison and the Force Rasolea/Tapuai

Eddie without a head is a very appealing prospect. He was the Coach, he cops the kicking.

He didn't exactly have much to choose from in the tight five.

In a weak position you sometimes need to play to what strengths you do have and they were breakdown and backline play expertise.

He did win a Bledisloe, a tri nations and got us to the RWC final, defeating NZ along the way. 2005 was a horrible year but we also had a crippling injury list.

Didnt we lose Ben Darwin around that time, he was a massive lose to the front row..

You could replace Fardy with Simmons, move Fardy to 6, and select that backline. The second lock is probably the most open position for some time.

Skelton was more physical tonight but his handling let him down. I'd probably pick Carter to partner Simmons right now. It isn't perfect but he's probably a shade ahead of Coleman.

What happens with Folau now that Gibson is playing him at 13.

To me, he is the best 15 we have and by a long way.

Is he seriously being looked at as a 13 ? I'd still pick TK. Is Izzy having an each way bet ?

With Folau playing centre, does that leave the door open for another fullback? What if he misses at 13 does he still take the 15 spot ?
