Yeah Rooster for a week but feather duster again next week.
That trusty dartboard came through for me.
Wests put up a good show by all accounts and were unlucky to lose after being ahead at times. Neither set of backs got much ball, which suited Wests. Bond won despite their coaching.
Brothers happy for their 1st win since round 4 (and that was against GPS so barely counts).
UQ proving what they do best - flat track bullies. Move over Graeme Hick.
Easts showing that last week was a flash in the pan.

Round 9 Review
Bond 24 vs Wests 17
Bond once again lucky for a win against a strong West forward pack, yes you did warn Girtbysea. Wests fwd’s are one of the stronger fwd packs in the Colts this year and without the likes of Gavin Luka upfront for Bond we battled our way through the game losing Joel Kuchel to head knock did not help either. Excuses aside Wests dominated up front but lacked any power or ball in the backs. Again for Bond, delivery off the scrum was poor and the decision to go one too many times with the fwd’s on the opponents line cost Bond a couple of turnovers. I think, as Refabit has it, that the backline of Bond are not getting enough ball, the bond hooker saw more ball in the backline than the centers. Halfback was changed out and then back again after 10 min.
Wests positives - strong forward pack and loosies.
Wests negatives – no real fire power in the backs.
West MOM – Efitusi Maafu.
Bond positives – Ugly win.
Bond negatives – No use of backline, wrong ball delivery choices at crucial times in the game.

Thanks for the review Happy To Chat. I was unable to make the game but this is definitely the bright spot at the Kennel at the moment. How our colts are competing.
Interesting dilemma for Premier Grade with their seasons all but over, You usually like to blood the young Premier Colts in the main game during Round 2. I really hope Wests let the Premier Colts ride this form out (perhaps they could ask the young Brown kid playing backrower if he wants to have a run with Premier Colts - IDK how many premier games is required to make you ineligible for a Premier Colts playoff appearance but it would be nice to see the Colts at Full strength)

The tipping. Great week for most of the selections, even though we had quite a diverse of opinion; well it was better than last weeks debacle.

The King of the Picks this week was Refabit - 4 from 4 and only 34 points. What A Man! Well done mate. HTC maintains his lead, however it has been trimmed a little. And NCWK out of the cellar (hopefully you didn't drink too much down there) and on his way.
The two newbies (Phatmik and Nick Dobell) started on a tough week and luck wasn't on their side. Chins up boys. An easy couple of weeks coming up so we should be able to increase our percentages. All eyes will be on the points difference challenge.

My take of the teams that I have seen thus far (UQ, Bond, Souths & The Bank), from a Brothers prospective.
The best team I have seen is UQ. They have probably the best back row, very fluid #9 & #10 and when they get back Hunt and Meni in the centres that will be a great combination. Other forwards are competent enough to hold their own in set pieces and their general flow is nice to watch. They are my favourites for the crown.
Only thing the other teams can do, is keep beating them before the finals!
My next best teams are Bond and Brothers. Bond, on paper, seem to be as an accomplished teams and equal to UQ, However, someone seems to have their foot on the clutch from time to time and they don't seem to engage the engine. They SHOULD be scoring more points but they don't and that's a worry for me. Strengths: front row, competent back row, good halves (9 & 10) good outside backs (11 & 13). Weakness: become flustered with so much ball and don't make the best decisions with it.
They will be right in it.
Brothers are also a good team, however very inconsistent and slow starters. In the games they have lost they have not respected the ball enough and had issues with the front row and centre combinations. However the forwards in general are competent and the backs are getting better in terms of attacking combinations. The #11 is a stand-out and I would expect higher honours for him if he continues at the club. With Hoopert (hasn't played a game yet) I think they are the real dark horses. If (big if) they play every game like they did against The Bank they would be my favourites.
The Bank. Well it's so hard to gauge them from my point of view. Against Brothers they seemed like a good team, however their current standing would make them a really good team and I just didn't see that. The forwards weren't fit enough (that can be changed, though) and once on top of them they dropped their heads, not a good sign. I still put them fourth.
They are my top 4, with UQ still on top Bond and Brothers close behind but still semi-finalists.

O'k the other teams:
First Souths (since I saw the game). They were o'k; real hungry for the ball, however not the best skills, and poor discipline which I'm sure referees are going to pick up on eventually. With Moseley out for the year, Ferrell playing Prem's and Ngamanu with constant niggling injuries, I think they will be annoying at best, and may cause a few upsets.
Haven't seen Wests or Easts. However, sounds like Wests will be fighting for the fourth spot along with The Bank (still my favourites for fourth) and Easts. From what have seen on here sounds like they have a determined and well skilled forward pack, but are lacking the skills in the backs. That will work well during the regular season, however the better teams will eventually win-out on this. They are dangerous and teams need to be at their best when you play them.
Easts will also provide up-sets but probably don't have the combinations to be a real threat for the title. Again consistency is a problem, however unlike Brothers, I am unsure of their skill levels; if they are well skilled then they just need to become consistent to be more of a threat. Properly retain 6th for them at the moment.
Norths and GPS at the moment are playing for pride and the love of the game. Guys rugby is not just about winning, its about mateship and having a crack and enjoying the people your playing with. Keep it up, rugby needs U!

Nah, I think it will be UQ and Brothers will be the main threat to leading the competition. The Finals, well that's completely another story; form can then go completely out the window. It's making the finals that counts for the crown, then fitness and momentum in the finals.

Mid season I suppose UQ hasn't been as good as I thought they would be. Probably not as good as they thought either. Still warm favourites for title. Dropped their bundle big time when going got tough (Bank, Bond). Play better in front of an audience so are sweating on finals to start.
Bond have some talented players trying to play well in a dumb structure. Best depth. The complete waste of Aus schoolboys 13 and speedy wingers should be enough to send the clown in charge back to Canberra. Sadly it wont.
Haven't seen Sunnybank but results speak for themselves - with the odd forgivable hiccough. Put Uni to the sword impressively.
The Filth have been very consistent and "in" all games. Second best defence running around but lack the ability to rattle up the cricket scores. Still you only need to win the big games by a point.
So the top 4 are set for me. Just positions to change.

I take your point about UQ. But I don't mean to burst your bubble on UQ but I'm discounting fairly heavily the losses to The Bank and Bond. They were missing the following players:
Wallis for Bond game
Poncini for both games
Horan for both games
Hunt for both games
Also think a few played out of position (Clancy? and Rayment??, both these players did not play against Sunny). Some fairly useful footballers that were out. That's why the Brothers game was a better form reference as these players played. The losses to Bond and The Bank are forgives as far as I'm concerned.

- Leaked 41 points against Bond (without Luka) and 45 against Bank
- Waived the white flag in the Bond game after 10 minutes.
Will be keen to see Round 11 against your mob to see if they're the real deal.

Speedy Winger (Hayden Sargent) should be playing halfback, has the speed, has the build and has rugby brain, if he wants to take the game any further (not unlike Josh Coward). Bond 13 as you put it "a complete waste" is under utilized for his size and speed. IMO the downfall is due to lack of good ball off the scrum and having a few more moves in the backline. I think the backline coach needs to step up, it is not u15 schools rugby.
