The first two England tries came after poor kicks. The first a penalty didn't find touch and the second was one of Foley's pop-gun drop punts which floated down the middle of the field and the Poms ran it back at us.
I'm a big fan of Foley with the ball in hand, but his kicking game isn't test match level. Normally in these circumstances the fullback would slot into the clearing kick role, but Izzy ain't that good at it either. To'omua would be able to fill the role, but alas he will be lost to Australian rugby for the next few years.
I thought that the England try off the back of the scrum was really intelligent play. No doubt the Wallabies braced themselves for the pushover/penalty and the Poms did a quick heel and No 8 was putting the ball down before we knew it was out. Smart play.

Australia were beaten by a better team, across all facets of the game in all 3 games. Cheika was out coached in all 3 games.
1. Wallaby defence and discipline shocking.
2. Phipps is not an international 9, one dimensional and poor fundamentals.
3. Hooper needs to play tighter, spends way too much time on the wing.
4. If Foley is the answer, we are asking the wrong question (unless that question is who didn't find touch). He is so limited as a 10 that his deficiencies cause the Wallabies to be always under pressure in their own half and points against them follow. His inability to find touch led to at least 14 points to England.
He had a second playmaker outside him and he didn't play any better. Time to move on from Foley at 10. His running ability is useful though.
5. After watching the series, For the RC, I would be inclined to try
9. Genia or Frisby if Genia N/A
10. To'omua (Quade on bench if eligible)
11. Morahan
12. Kerevi
13. Foley
14. DHP
15. Folau
6. Skelton needs to lose 10kg of that fat and start playing 8, he could be our long term answer there.
7. Moore needs a spell, he is not playing or leading well. Start TPN and bring in Ready or Hanson.

Yes they have always had an intelligent kicking game - even when Cheika was playing. Ella, Campese, Knox et al were top class kickers of the rugby ball. (none of these floating, pop gun drops punts either)

Two things can be said about Hooper as Captain. He is a little better than Moore, and he is a more certain starter and finisher. He has not however demonstrated good decision making with the (c) next to his name.

it was a good game, saw a lot of people sitting on the edge of their seats for the last 15.
for all the tears about foley, i thought he had a good game but was inaccurate with his boot a couple of times. however its a bit hard to kick well or distribute when you're jumping into the air to catch the ball. phipps passing has once again fallen into his bad frenetic adhd like habit of just hurl the ball.

For mine the difference between the two sides was nothing other than the Wobblies absolutely incompetent kicking. If we had any players that were capable kickers in general play we would have won that game by 20 points.
Time and time again, English tries were created by our failure to kick with any accuracy.
Imagine how many tries the AB's will put on us if we kick that badly against them!
Nothing else was a siginificant impact one way or the other on that game, we generally defended well, attack was better, given the available cattle the 40 points we scored was a reflection of that.
All of Cheika's focus should be on finding a world class kicking coach ASAP or we will be in for a very long and hard winter, as we showed tonite, even 40 points is not enough if your kicking game is absolute shite.
McMahon certainly repaid Cheika's faith in him, he played the game of his life last night and actually looked like a test player last night. I really didnt think he had it in him, well done!
Eddie Jones showed what a master coach he has become in the later part of his career. He has done a brilliant job in transforming the Poms from the despair of their RWC exit to a series sweep in australia. They have been flattered by a poor wobblies team, but made the most of it and taken their chances.

Why not? He is not an international 10. He is a great runner of the ball, he is good distributor of the ball, he is a capable defender. He would go well working outside of Kerevi and he wouldn't need to be the playmaker.
It just doesn't make sense picking a playmaker at 12 to basically play 10 cause the 10 can't play 10.
We could always pick more Tahs but Dean's tried that and it didn't work out well.

That is one of the strangest backlines I have ever seen suggested on here.
9. Phipps - beautiful pass to put Naya over for the consolation try, needs consistency and to get hooked if it isn't happening.
10. Foley - relieve him of clearing duties and hand them to To'omua/DHP (still not great but better). Need a real 10 on the bench so he gets hooked if underperforming, Lilo and To'omua are obviously not seen as test 10's.
11. Horne - needs to look for work and would put him on notice

13. Kerevi - TK was very quiet in the last and had less impact in each game

22. QC (Quade Cooper) - If he can sign in time, or Lilo again though coaches have shown they defintely don't like him at 10.

I don't think Oz played all that bad overall, but I think one of the bigger concerns out of this is not whether they played better, worst or the same as their opposition, but that these losses occurred on home soil. That's a massive confidence blow.
Most top teams even when they are outplayed or are a bit scrappy can often lift at home with crowd behind them and grind out a win.
I certainly don't underestimate the level of effort that England would've had to lift to get such a series win away from home.

Just on that scrum, as it was about to set Fardy was on the blind side and Hooper came around the back and swapped with him. Hooper was then still engaged with the scrum when Vunipola ran past to score the try.

I couldn't believe that Cheika subbed To'omua for LLF and not Foley. Straight after To'omua sets up a try that puts us back in the match.
Ditto the non-subbing of Nick Phipps. All this talk of "Finishers" is a charade, clearly. Cheika's teams like to play 22 v 23.
Meanwhile, Eddie Jones is hooking poorly performing players and injecting fresh legs after 30 minutes.
My take is, the English coaching staff set standards and when members of the team didn't meet those standards they were quickly chopped and dropped.
Australia, well our coaching staff preferred to reward poor performances and hook players for showing creativity.
