hey guys,

Was only able to make a couple of the NSW schools under 16's games and was wondering if there were any standouts from either of the GPS sides that will be pushing for selection.

I think from the presidents B side there were a few standouts, mainly in the big second rower Duvall (N) some big runs and have definately got a high work rate around the part shame he sat out most of his last game.

Agree with the assessment re Harris (S) - was a standout. Titmuss (N) had some storming runs when either in space or with defenders being dragged behind him. Also thought Angus Bell (N) prop had a great series of games - particularly in the final against CAS. Other forward I'd consider worthy of mention would have been Jeremy Williams (S). Felt really sorry for Matt Dutalis (I) who looked to do a knee while scoring a try in the second game on Saturday. Would have liked to have seen more of him against CAS.

About the Newington Prop, Angus Bell, I believe his running game definately shows his skills and why people would say he stands out, but what I noticed was him separating from a clear front row pod in the centre of the park and not joining the other two to clean out in many breakdowns. His scrummaging was definately helped by Mclennan (I) and Icanovski (N) who won a nice tighthead in a pressured situation and dominated the scrums which was shown when they were replaced just before half time. The other two front rowers definately did a lot more around the park with some good runs under their belts too.

Pres XV were quite dominant throughout the tournament and i would say a fair amount of GPS boys should be selected.

In the backs, Dom Easy was a standout. He was strong in both O and D, showcased a great running game with great ball playing skill. Before getting injured, Matt Dutalis was playing well and hopefully gets his opportunity through selection. Angus Bell was good at the back and deserves a notable mention, however i believe there is a tough choice in picking the nsw #15, imo it will be between Bell and Hopoate (ISA).

Forwards were definitely the most powerful and skilful pack of all teams. Bell, Janson, Williams were terrific for the tight 5 and played with alot of ticker. Bell's running game was quite superior, however i do understand the comment re - his separation from the front row pod in the centre. Janson and Williams were simply solid and played great rugby in all aspects. Could not see these boys missing selection. Harris was outstanding and was definitely one of GPS best. He did spend the majority of the trials at flanker, allowing for Titmuss to come on and play no.8 off the bench, who in my opinion played strong with consistent barnstorming runs. The two worked well together, notably in the CHS 1 game. As i said prior to the trials the team would be stronger with Harris at flanker and Titmuss at no.8, it turned out it was when it did occur.

Really hope all these players gain selection.

Still uncertain as to why Keith Titmuss was ever on the bench for the GPS 1sts side. He most certainly should've been starting.

Perhaps as an impact player? When he came off the bench, the opposition were clueless as how to deal with his storming carries. However, I also feel as if Will Harris also played tremendous as a starting 8.

Max Douglas from ISA was in the 1sts ISA team at no 8. He will play no 8 in the NSW squad.

Moretti from CAS will be at 6.

Harris will be on the bench as reserve back row/second rower. Titmuss will be a shadow.

That is highly unlikely. Harris was close or the best on field throughout the trials and Titmuss was just simply too strong and played consistently good. So to not have these players start will be quite questionable. Although Douglas plays 1sts, it does not mean he is a shoe in, in front of 16s. There are loose forwards like Harris and Titmuss who can easily plays 1sts too. Douglas will slot into the side alongside both Harris and Titmuss.

Douglas will be the 8.

Titmuss will not be there.

If Titmuss doesn't make it I will be incredibly surprised. Very eager to hear your opinion on why you think he won't make it however.

He is a good player. But Douglas, Moretti and Harris are better and that's who will be in the team.

@Backline Move, it seemed as though Douglas was originally announced at 5 for ISA. Did they switch him into 8 in place of Manu? If so, do you know why?

I thought he played well on the weekend but I tend to agree he would be bench at best. If the selectors follow the form of the GPS selectors, he wasn't deemed good enough to make the starting Presidents B team. This I think was a bit tough.

But give credit to the boys selected above him in the Presidents B team. The likes of Duval and Brown played well in a tight 5 who managed a load of work in the tight and also the loose!

I notice the Newington "Cheer squad" have been quiet on backline selections. I thought the Presidents A backline selections were on the mark.
