Interesting perspective. Because I reckon just about every other 1st XV coach in the comp would have found a spot in their team of 15 players for Edwards, Suttor, Haskins, Sinclair, Rixon, Gregory and probably others

Well said Rich.... And they were mostly all rewarded with higher honours this year as well!

I agree, they are all quality players. I think Shore would have done better had they had Rixon for more of the season. He revealed how devastating he can be in the NSW 1 v NSW 2 game just before he was injured again.

Wow....who knew that Club Rugby was doing so well in AU and that ARU were making such gains in the public school system....This is a revelation for me....

Ok, these graphic posts are funny,and I laugh, but they avoid the issues rugby face.
Given that we all agree that rugby is being out marketed by the other sports, and it is evident that there is a lot of push back about change, how about this idea.
I find people are really good at bagging things, what I also see rarely are new ideas/suggestions.
Other than maintaining the same old status quo, are there any solid ideas, or is this a closed shop of feel good comfy stuff, and bugger everyone else.
If so, Azzuri is right,all this talk about trying to find a solution to the rugby issue is BULLSHIT.

Azzuri, it seems like the ARU might make some progress with VIVA7s. It seems pretty popular and is getting more families involved in rugby. It's very mum and girl friendly and may help keep mums on side when their sons want to continue playing rugby.

Agreed @Loiterer, it's a great format and very accessible so i also think they are on a winner. In some ways it's the 20/20 of Rugby and plays strongly to the instant gratification, convienience and limited attention span mindset of people of all ages and both genders.

Based on the possible 1st XV line ups provided so far, it looks like 2017 will be another close contest.

I'm really interested in the possibility of Schools playing outside their association. With all due respect to the passion of those who don't like the idea, but lift your head out of the scrum and look around.

Firstly, the discussion suits this thread as GPS Rugby all but drives the schoolboy game.

• One round was the status quo for nearly a century, so I'm not sure why such resistance.
• Having a divisional set-up for first round amongst all interested schools will make for more even matches and goals for achievement with promotion relegation.
• This is Schoolboy Rugby, not life & death stuff. Surely more exposure to other schools will provide a better experience for the kids

Now for a reality check.

• Keeping everything in house ensures rugby is seen as an elitist sport which the riff raff of the masses should be no part of.
• Junior Rugby Union (including schools) is dying because people are being actively excluded.
• To win the GPS (or any association) competition and then claim to be the best is arrogance bordering on the absurd.

The ARU (mostly GPS alumni) are constantly accused of living in an ivory tower and ignoring the opportunities to expand the game and develop players. Surely a change in attitude from the GPS will benefit all schoolboy rugby, and subsequently the Wallabies.
