Here's the T20 squad for games against Sri Lanka (I think).

A travesty that Ben Dunk and Ben Laughlin have missed out.

Unlucky for Sean Abbott to miss out after an excellent series as well.

Abbott is abit more than unlucky, should have been the first bowler picked.

Agreed that Dunk should have been given the gloves but it's unlikely either he or Paine would open the batting so they probably went for whoever they thought was stronger behind the stumps.

It will be interesting to see who comes in if Lynn isn't fit.

No complaints about Klinger's age yet? I'm impressed.

Dunk should come in if Lynn is out. Most runs in the comp should count whether he keeps or not. So Heazlett will get the nod.

Yesterday's Napier washout was the third in four matches & apparently only 6mm of rain actually fell: first rain in almost a month & it probably won't rain again until March. Hawkes Bay weather is funny like that. City Council VERY defensive about the drainage system that was upgraded after a similar fiasco in 2013 or thereabouts. NZ coach Mike Henson is furious & calling for McLean Park never to be used again which would be a shame for the people of the Bay but he's probably right, esp as it's not really a cricket ground it's a rugby field with an embankment at one end. Palmy North's Arena Manawatu is slightly more oval so maybe that's where the future of ODI cricket in the Central Dustricts lies?

When coverage started on Fox the rain had stopped and the pitch was being drained, 5 hours later the ground was still too wet and the match was abandoned. How they didn't get on the field should certainly be investigated by the ICC.

On the bright side it means that NZ now can't lose the series.

Shield watch:

WA (201 & 245) beat SA (247 & 192) by 7 runs. Simon Mackin very impressive with 12 wickets (7/81 & 5/78), alongside Chadd Sayers (5/68 & 4/64) and Kane Richardson (4/55 & 5/69). Mackin & Sayers are ones to watch for next summer, averaging 23.4 in 15 and 23.74 in 50 games respectively over their careers (for comparison, Hazlewood avg. 24.45 @ FC level over 57 matches)

NSW (523) leads Victoria (258 & 2/59) by 208 runs. Travis Dean most impressive for the Vics with 67 & 25*, with Harry Conway (3/25, 1.66 econ.), Cowan, Henriques, Patterson and Nevill impressing for NSW.

QLD (9/405d & 1/31) lead Tasmania (200) by 236 runs. Burns, Labuschagne & Hartley most impressive for QLD, Bailey most impressive for Tassie. Joe Burns GOAT bowler confirmed (2 overs, 2 maidens, 1 wicket, 0.00 economy).

Mackin, Sayers, Patterson all possible future test players if they continue form (Jake Lehmann also impressive in SA 1st innings).

Nevill vs Hartley for keeper in test team (Wade is a bit shit @ test level). Edge to Nevill for the moment

By all accounts the block was good to go, it was the outfield that was the problem. Apparently your captain used to his toe to test how soft the ground was somewhere on the 30m circle & ended up leaving a decent sized divot. In other words, shitloads of money spent on wicket block drainage, not so much on outfield drainage............

While NZ can't lose the series, a Strayan win means the Trophy goes back to Sydney where I'm sure it has a prominent place in CA's trophy cabinet :)

Wade missing the tour of India would be a huge blessing in disguise.

Some might disagree but thats just my two cents.
Nevill should be our keeper in India. Scored a ton today against the leading Shield side and is clearly a better gloveman than Wade.

It's classic Australian cricket selection that Wade's test position has been secured with an ODI century (albeit a brilliant one).

Yeah, and Marsh justified Wade's selection over Nevill last year coz he was a "better batsman". Wade promptly got out for under 10 in five (or so) innings in the test series..... IF the selectors didn't/don't pick the best gloveman for India with their emphasis on a spin bowling attack, well, they're fools.

^^^^^ Exactly about the selectors. But I'd suggest it should be a toss up atm between Neville and Tim Payne, who might have the inside running given his selection for the T20s.

I'm not impressed by Paine's avg. in FC cricket, nor his form. Nevill covers him virtually everywhere and should return to the test side

Nevill should never have been dropped in the first place. It's not his fault that the top six weren't doing their jobs. I think we got so used to Gilly destroying attacks at seven and Haddin mounting his own rescue jobs at times that we've had unrealistic expectations of what a keeper should be doing. It's not their batting that should be the first thing assessed. Besides, Wade has been shit with the stick anyway.

It's a sunny day in Hamilton (expected high 28C) so play will get underway on time &'there's no reason we won't get a full days play from 09:00 AEDT. Gunna be quite stressful working out when to flick over to the 7's & when to flick back to the cricket. It's all good tho, I've got me some thinking juice in the fridge :)

NZ need one wicket and we need about 20 something runs. I guess we've seen how valuable Warner and Smith are to this team. Still, when I look at that batting line up you'd think that they would acquit themselves better than they have. There is still a fair amount of talent there.

NZ 281/9 (Taylor 107) b Australia 257 (Boult 6/33) by 24 runs to regain the Chappell-Hadlee trophy 2-0 & go to third in the ODI rankings. Thought we'd blown it when Santner went for plenty towards the end but Williamson held his nerve & Boult delivered.

^^^^^^^^^^ The wicket where Williamson stuck Taylor at secondish slip & Boult bowled the perfect line & length across the batsman's body to get the edge was just about as good as it gets. Reminded me of when I used to play, knicked a lot to slip, I did :).
