Jesus mate, get with the program.
Wrong second row.
Wrong backrow.
Wrong flyhalf.
Wrong reserve hooker.
According to this forum it's a terrible side.

Nah.
Couldn't care less who plays 4 - there's so little point of difference that it boils down to who pulls off a smokey and rises above the usual quagmire of mediocrity, only to fall back to the same baseline next game prior to being rotated out again.
Likewise reserve hooker isn't worth losing sleep over. Moore gets a caning on this forum but he wasn't bad last game and it won't make the slightest difference to the score line whoever is picked in this role.
6,8, and 10 are where we fall short of international standard players and none of our current starters would make these positions in the top 5 sides (McMahon might have a shot at 7 but not 8)
Lack of alternatives is a problem but it does baffle me why we rotate other positions in the name of development but not these.

What a load of absolute whiny Garbage. Foley has been playing brilliantly as has McMahon.

Ah.. ok. it's all clear now - Thoughtful and well considered response as I have come to expect.
Foleys attack has been excellent. His defense and kicking in general play have been suspect as usual.
McMahon has played well but in a x2 7s because we don't have a decent 8 role.
I stand by my comment that these 3 positions are the most important for us to develop.
Just because it's a different opinion to yours doesn't make it whiny garbage.
If that's how you deal with opinions that differ from your own then I feel sorry for you.

McMahon has regularly made metres running hard at the line. Thats the 8s job.

It's one part of the 8s role. There are other areas that playing x2 7s leaves us exposed. Aggression and impact at the breakdown come to mind.
In a top ranked side pocock, hooper and McMahon are all competing for the 7 spot.
It's only because of our lack of real options at 6 and 8 that we continually play two 7s.
You'll note I wasn't criticising McMahon - but I stand by my comment - he wouldn't be selected at 8 by NZ, SAF or Eng and if we are to have a realistic chance at returning to top 2 in the world we need to develop options at 6,8 and 10.

Fair enough, i disagree. I think Foley has been absolutely brilliant. Every player has weaknesses and strengths. Even the fabled Beauden Barrett is shite at spot kicks. I think McMahon came in to provide the go-forward Timani wasn't bringing and he's done that.
You are basically just saying if we had perfect, complete players in every position we'd be the best team in the world. It's true but so what?

We do need to develop options at 8 but I'd argue McMahon has performed better in that role this season than Timani ever has and he is now well down on form.

There might be more conventional 8 options available next season but right now McMahon is clearly our best option.

Talking about top sides is realistically just NZ and England. We could be back to third by the end of the weekend and are very close with Ireland and South Africa.

The series against Ireland next year should be a cracker.

What a 7 is has evolved, and with the new ruck interpretations will continue to evolve in coming years...

True, but he's the type of player that Cheika likes. Expect a Pocock, Hooper & McMahon backrow when the prodigal son returns, or at the very least McMahon coming off the bench as a utility backrower.

Does Poey return before McMahon leaves?

Yep, mine too. A couple of issues with inability to format relies as well.

I can see your avatar BR, but not Gagger, Dismal and formerflanker (on this page) and some others on other threads.

All others seem ok.

The mysteries of the internet - and I'm certainly the wrong demographic to have the faintest idea about why and/or how to fix it.

I'm using Chrome - this may be an inadvertant masterstroke my part, or it might have nothing to do with it.

FUCKING RUGBY REG! Siphoning off the last remaining glow of forum wattage just to power up his goddamn avatar. "HEY GUYZ LOOKING GOOD OVER HEAR!" says bloody Reg from the comfort of the only chair left in the fucken place

Dismal, it's very disconcerting, and you above all members should be concerned that your 'blank square' looks the same as every other 'blank square'! Reg is the only multi-coloured member ..... maybe it's a "sign"?! I will have to chat to my Gen X kids to try and get back my 'visual content'.

McMahon has done the job consistently for us at 8 since Dunedin. Despite possessing all the physical attributes of an 8 Timani just hasn't been up to scratch or even replicated his form from last season and there's no way you can claim he would have done a better job than McMahon. Naisarani seems to be shaping up to be our only real option as the more classic 8. If he's able to maintain his current form until he is eligible then he may well be able to play the role of the big ball running 8 we all desire. Until then McMahon or Pockock on his return with Hooper at 7 offer more than anyone else is currently showing.
