Sydney Subbies 2020

I take the view that the social part of rugby distinguishes it from pretty much every other sport I (and others at our club) have played. When we've had guys from league join us, they're amazed that this sort of thing goes on, and the bloke who nearly took your head off just after halftime will shout you a cold one as a way of making it up to you.

There are certain people or clubs you're not going to get along with, and that's also fine. IMHO if they don't want to hang around for a boat race and a chinwag, it's their loss ;)

Well said. Rugby is the only game where you can rock up with your boots to any club on earth and instantly have 50 friends for life.
Generally these days you find clubs that are long Distance from others are the clubs that regularly have return bus trips which generate interclub goodwill. Certainly more so than clubs located geographically closer together where everyone just bolts after 1s.

Currently reading the recently departed All Black Andy Haden's book. A quote from the Prologue, 'Mixing socially with your opposition after a contest is enriching in itself, a privilege regardless of the level at which you are competing, a privilege the must always be protected'.

It's been pointed out to me that a message went out to subbies clubs were sent an updated covid plan before the match which more or less the junior system of 'play, and piss off'

And they have have just been following that advice.

With that said, I withdraw my earlier comments, and sorry to Oatley.

Yea ive just never understood the concept of a player/club getting up in arms because another team either wants to drink amongst themselves or wants to bugger off and go home.

I sign up to play a game of footy, not to socialise with a bunch of randoms i don't know, if both parties are interested in having a bev after the game, fantastic. If they don't, don't hold it over their head or bitch about it

I feel the type of people that think they're entitled to group beers after the game are the same ones that think they're entitled to a conversation and the attention of a female just because they pay her an unsolicited compliment

There is a game for your type of person. It's called rugby league, have you come across it?

Didn’t stop others from Coming together for a beer in a COVIDSafe environment to maintain the cultural bonds of rugby.

Cluch TV seems to be taking off. Newport had them stream their game against Blacktown and its had over 3300 views.
I see Forest did 3 grades Which makes sense given their crazy crowd banning decision.

It is a weird year. We've probably saved a couple of grand in terms of post-match functions, but at the same time we haven't been able to spread our cultural wings ;)

Div1
Petersham vs COLLEAGUES: After being pipped on the bell by Mosman will go with Colleagues to continue the Shammies season of pain.
MOSMAN vs Forest: The Whales to have a field day against the green ferals. The whales can expect a big Forest crowd to make the trek across the Spit to see their boys live in action. Stock up the bar.
Mountains vs WAVES: Will go with the away team who have had the luxury of a week off whilst mountains were getting mauled by the Dirty reds.
DRUMMOYNE vs Knobs: Dirty reds to inflict some pain on the boys from Lofberg.

Div 2
ST PATS vs Unsw: The home team in a struggle against the students.
Robs vs LINDFIELD: Both clubs probaly eyeing this one as their only chance for 2020 victory, I'll go the Old Soldiers to come out on top in a high scoring encounter.
HILLS vs bobs: The winner of this game most likely guarantees themselves a semifinal game, I'll take the home team in a thriller.
Epping vs HH: Hunters Hill to shear the Rams backsides here.

Div 3
Hawkesbury vs IGGIES: A rested Iggies to towel up HV who would be very disappointed with last weeks loss to arch enemy HAC.
Blacktown vs BEECROFT: Beecroft to have way to much class in the backs for the big boppers from Blacktown.
Briars vs NEWPORT: the Breakers to continue their good form with their fitness overcoming Briars late in a tight one.
QUINNs vs Hac: The Harlequinns to record their only win of the season against HAC at Waterloo oval.

Very shitty about that - i wanted to see what Irish had in terms of First Grade so we could plan for them ;)
