"Cheque book Churchie" does have a nice ring to it but shit they can play. Best team I have seen in many a year. They have won in sun , rain and wind.lucky with injuries too.

What most observers neglect in deploying the 'cheque book Churchie' moniker is:

(a) every GPS school effectively does the same thing, and given that the question is: how well have they imported and blended the new-ish comers with the longer stayers, how well have they chosen the scholarship recipients? For 2014, in the case of Churchie, the answer is: friggin' well.....and moreover

(b) Jason Gilmore as Coach of the Churchie 1st XV. This guy is unquestionably one the finest elite schoolboy coaches in Australia. He coaches a great combo of a humble, hard-working culture, excellent team preparation, a focus on basic skills down well, and a complete game where every part of the team is trained how to contribute correctly and play their role.

With the usual Australian obsession with individual players at the expense of understanding the real power of fine team coaching, (b) above is routinely neglected but it's been a huge factor in Churchie's performance this year.

....... Jason Gilmore as Coach of the Churchie 1st XV....

Yes Gilmore is a champion. With DOR Nucifora leaving next year & Gilmore the year after, big shoes to fill at Churchie rugby. Strong links to Easts club also go with them - the current ACGS firsts have at least 5/6 who have played from u13s at Easts & school - strong bonds.

Congrats to the S&C coaches at ACGS & TSS - only 1 change in each teams lineup since Round 1 - should be a cracker match today.

An update only The King will appreciate: 16Cs FT TSS 7 ACGS 29

RedsHappy the BGS 16Cs were snubbed today. Churchie sent us their E team to toy with.

My favourite moment of the game was when BGS knocked on inside Churchie's 5 metre line. From the scrum, their halfback passed the ball back to 10, who grounded the ball inside his ingoal, then ran to the 22 shouting "It's a dropout, it's a dropout!". Needless to say he was very upset with the "bullshit refereeing" when Grammar were awarded a scrum.

I think we won 5 tries to 1 in the end, but we dropped a lot of pill. Plenty to work on before BBC next week.

Churchie are leading 8-7 in the First XV
