Just when you think Meyer got it, he lost the plot again. Moernaai Steyn FFS. ditto Johan Goosen.

ACT Crusader

Jim Lenehan (48)
M. Steyn would still be the Boks 3rd best 1st 5 and would still provide your best injury cover should one of the young fella or Lambie go down injured.

I think more concerning is that Janie DP is still there....

TH is a problem. Jannie is OK. Was the ideal chance to pick the Lions fatties who was the best in S15/CC rugby this year. But now he'll go for useless Guthro Steenkamp.

Jannie seem to have got better after the changes at the scrum engagement. I agree with you about the Lions fatties though.

Morne Steyn's absense was only ever temporary. It was pure media hype to conclude that he is completely out of favour because of one (admittedly crucial) mistake.

Pollard made exactly the same mistake as Morne against the All Blacks but it wasn't in the dying minutes of the game. These things happen. It would be a bold move for any coach to throw out the country's most experienced 10 of all time.

I'm thinking it's more about creating competition in any case. We can expect Morne to be in the RWC squad, so why not on the EOYT squad?

Pollard will know he can't lie down now. Lambie will know he's on the brink and can't lie down now. Morne knows he's on the edge of being history so can't lie down now. Goosen has had a run of games and will know this is his last opportunity to assert himself as the obvious backup in the event any of the 3 are unavailable for RWC selection or if they don't make the cut. Boshoff's temperament in the CC final compared to Lambie's against the All Blacks is the kind of thing that can ensure or deny selection.

The game against Italy should be a precursor to the SA-based squad to face Wales the week after, but fringe NH players may also benefit from getting a run in that game.

A big part of the squad had a training camp together and folks across the water weren't part of that. It will make them all more competitive.

Jannie needs a good rest. He's a good scrummager when fresh and on form and a little less of a liability in the loose. He's probably still technically the best at the core duties required of him.

I agree that someone else needs an extended opportunity,

Did Pollard and Serfontein make a differense for the Boks in 2014?

Thats the big question. If they did Meyer should have get more of the younger generation SA players in that sqaud, chuck out the old wood.

I expect this to happen this time next year. Doing it now is lunacy. THP is where we are farked.

Which older players currently in the team will you sacrifice for younger players? I can't think of any more than those already there, since the current older players are playing really well.

Some introspection into the culture of the current Springbok setup and the attitude of the players:

"I'm so happy. I'm going to tour with my heroes and learn a lot," 21-year-old Senatla told Die Burger.
Then,
SPORT24 said:
Carr, 23, said 2014 has been an "unforgettable" year. "I wasn't even in the Stormers team at the start of the year. I will try learn as much as possible on the tour. It's a huge honour and privilege to go along. It will be an added bonus if I get game time."
This,
SPORT24 said:
“It’s all very exciting,” said Redelinghuys. “I’ve had to sort out my passport requirements over the past few days. It’s been a bit of a rush, but everything will be sorted. I’m very excited to join the Springbok squad.
...
“Many people criticised the Springbok scrum when the team played Argentina, but the guys really improved against Australia and New Zealand. They deserve credit for that,” said Redelinghuys. “I will contribute wherever and whenever I’m needed.

“I’m looking forward to working with the likes of Jannie (du Plessis), Bismarck (du Plessis) and Tendai (Mtawarira) again. I worked with them during my time at the Sharks, so it will be a good reunion.

“I’m also looking forward to learning new things from the coaches, like Heyneke Meyer and Johann van Graan, and playing and training alongside the likes of Victor Matfield and Schalk Burger, who I have watched ever since I was a kid. I hope to gain valuable experience during the tour.”
And this...

I didn’t know [if I was in the squad] until 11.30. I rushed to be in front of the TV and when i saw it [my name], i just jumped up and screamed to my mother ‘mommy, mommy I made it’. I probably jumped a hole in the floor because I jumped so high. It’s unbelievable.
“It’s really indescribable, I’m at a loss for words. It’s a dream come true. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity my whole life my whole life and have been working towards this,” he said.

Johan Goosen has had similar words, saying he'll play flank if required.

Typical WP reply, that. In the spirit of provincialism, I'd replace them with these:

Flip van der Merwe
Jesse Kriel
Bjorn Basson
Rudy Paige
Werner Kruger
JJ Engelbrecht

If you think that looks ridiculous, you know how I feel reading your post.

Indeed. It's only the anit-Heyneke clan that will criticise him at the level some people do. Of course he has his faults, but Mallett, White etc. all did things we questioned, they did much stupider stuff than Meyer does, yet we still supported them regardless.

You dont get it? I'll replace them with your Brute players also. Its about the system not the players, you ask me the players then you jump on the provincial horse.

System Boet, system. DONT pick chicken runners, SA have more then enough SA players to select from.
