Was sent an email about the Australian Sports Commission Media Awards this morning. Thought we could arrange a campaign for GAGR. Would be great for this great site to get some more coverage and recognition.

I think the Root for the Wallabies campaign would be worth entering.

Nominations for the 2011 Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Media Awards are now open!

Now in its tenth year, the ASC Media Awards is Australia’s premier sports media celebration and the only awards dedicated to recognising sports journalism, broadcasting and photography. They focus on analytical and insightful reporting and the presentation of sport and sporting issues, with the ultimate aim of fostering improved coverage of key issues within sport.

As well as recognising excellence, the ASC Media Awards provide representatives from the media industry with the opportunity to network among peers and with senior representatives of the sports industry.

Key dates are as follows:
Nominations open Friday 26 August 2011
Nominations close Thursday 6 October 2011.
Finalist notified By Monday 31 October 2011
Presentation gala dinner Tuesday 29 November 2011

This year’s presentation gala dinner will be held in the Members Dining Room, Melbourne Cricket Ground. Guests will include Award finalists; Australian Sports Commission Board, Executive and representatives; CEOs and other representatives of national Sporting organisations and representatives from the sports media industry.

1 Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution to Sports Journalism
This award is for exceptional service to sports journalism over an extended period of time. The Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution to Sports Journalism is awarded by the Australian Sports Commission Board and is presented to an individual who has made a lengthy, significant and influential contribution to the reporting of Australian sport. This award is only bestowed if, in the opinion of the Australian Sports Commission Board, there is a single worthy recipient.

2 Best Reporting of an Issue in Sport
This award for journalistic excellence recognises a story, or series of stories, on a single issue in sport. It seeks to promote responsible, well-researched and analytical coverage of issues affecting sport.
For the purposes of this award, ‘issues’ do not include match or event reports or previews, or injuries to individuals. All other matters relating to sport will be considered.

3 Best Coverage of Sport by an Organisation — Broadcast Media
This award recognises an organisation that has delivered exceptional broadcast coverage of sport during the nomination period. Entries should demonstrate responsible and well-researched coverage and provide a detailed and innovative insight into sport. Entries will be assessed on the quality and comprehensiveness of coverage during the qualifying period.

4 Best Coverage of Sport by an Individual — Broadcast Media
This award recognises an individual who has delivered exceptional broadcast coverage of sport during the nomination period. Entries should demonstrate responsible and well-researched coverage and provide a detailed and innovative insight into sport. Entries will be assessed on the quality and comprehensiveness of coverage during the qualifying period.

5 Best Coverage of Sport by an Organisation — Print Media
This award recognises an organisation that has delivered exceptional printed and/or online coverage of sport during the nomination period. Entries should demonstrate responsible and well-researched coverage and provide a detailed and innovative insight into sport. Entries will be assessed on the quality and comprehensiveness of coverage during the qualifying period.

6 Best Coverage of Sport by an Individual — Print Media
This award recognises an individual who has delivered exceptional printed and/or online coverage of sport during the nomination period. Entries should demonstrate responsible and well-researched coverage and provide a detailed and innovative insight into sport. Entries will be assessed on the quality and comprehensiveness of coverage during the qualifying period.

7 Best Profiling of an Athlete, Team or Coach — Broadcast Media
This award recognises the best example of responsible and well-researched profiling of an individual athlete, team or coach by the broadcast media. Entries may focus on a number of issues, including unique training regimes, personal obstacles and triumphs or inspirational features.

8 Best Profiling of an Athlete, Team or Coach — Print Media
This award recognises the best example of responsible and well-researched profiling of an individual athlete, team or coach by the print media. Entries may focus on a number of issues, including unique training regimes, personal obstacles and triumphs or inspirational features.

9 Best Sports Journalism from Rural, Regional or Suburban Media
This award recognises the best example of responsible, well-researched and analytical coverage of issues affecting community sport in rural, regional or suburban Australia. For the purposes of this award, ‘issues’ do not include match or event reports or previews, injuries to individuals, or a team’s failure to qualify for a competition or event. It is open to sports journalists from media based outside capital cities.

10 Best Sports Photography
This award recognises the images that capture the passion, drama and colour of sport. Entries may be either a single photograph or a series on the same subject (limited to five images per series), provided all pictures were published.

11 Best Depiction of the Value of Sport to Australians in a Community Setting
This award is for excellence in journalism that best depicts the value of sport to the people of Australia in a community setting. Entries may include stories that demonstrate the role of sport in building more inclusive communities and breaking down social barriers. Issues covered may include Indigenous sport, youth sport, seniors in sport, women in sport, disability sport, and inclusion of officials and volunteers.

12 Best Coverage of Women in Sport
This award recognises the best coverage of women in sport. Coverage can focus on any active participation of women in sport, including as grassroots participants and volunteers, elite athletes, officials, coaches and administrators. Entries should demonstrate responsible and well-researched coverage and provide detailed and innovative insight into women in sport.

13 Best Coverage of Sport for People with Disability
This award recognises the best coverage of sport for people with disability. How to enter

Entries can be nominated in two ways via online or hardcopy submission. Please note that online nominations are preferred, however, nominations will also be accepted by post.

The qualifying period for all nominations is between 1 October 2010 and 5 October 2011. This period applies to all categories except the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Contribution to Sports journalism.

Please submit a separate online form for each entry. A series on the same topic is considered a single entry.
Upload one electronic copy of the work that forms the basis of the nomination. Acceptable formats include:
Print — Adobe Acrobat PDF
Broadcast — QuickTime MOV
Radio — MP3 or AIFF
Photograph — JPEG or TIFF
Website/s — web address (URL).
As this form only allows single file uploads, multiple files should be zipped before uploading.
Should your entry exceed a size of 100mb, it may be too large to upload. In this case, you may submit the entry form online and send the nominated item/s by post (there is no need to complete an additional hard copy entry form). Posted items should be clearly marked with the Media Awards Entry ID found at the top of the online form, as well as the entrant/nominee name and entry title.
Hardcopy entry

While online entries are preferred, hardcopy entries will still be accepted.
Review the nominations booklet and complete the hardcopy entry form.
Please submit a separate form for each entry. A series on the same topic is considered a single entry.
Provide a brief, 150-word statement to support the entry/ies (300-word statement for Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution to Sports Journalism), outlining its relevance to the category and why it should be considered for journalistic excellence. You may wish to include other features such as its impact or context.
Attach any supporting evidence, including one copy of the work that forms the basis of the nomination. Acceptable formats include:
Print — paper (hardcopy) and Adobe Acrobat PDF on CD
Radio — MP3 or AIFF on CD
Television — QuickTime MOV on DVD
Photograph — print (hardcopy) and JPEG or TIFF on CD

As short-listed entries will be copied for distribution to judges, ease of copying is appreciated. Please do not staple or bind hardcopy entries.

Individuals/organisations can provide entire publications where applicable (no more than three issues), articles (no more than ten in total), broadcasts (no more than ten minutes in total), or websites (no more than ten pages).

Please keep copies of all material submitted, as entries will not be returned.

Conditions of Entry

Entrants must be at least 18 years of age.
The Australian Sports Commission Media Awards are open to all Australian media reporting on sport, sport affairs or issues in sport.
Content must be original and generated by a permanent Australian resident.
All entries must have been published or broadcast in domestic media for the first time between 1 October 2010 and 5 October 2011. This qualifying period applies to all categories excluding the Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution to Sports Journalism.
Entrants in all categories are required to establish their bona fides as a journalist/photographer.
All entrants must certify that the entry is their original work and, apart from normal subeditorial/production treatment, they have adhered to the Media Alliance Code of Ethics in its preparation and have complied with all copyright requirements.
Entry may be by the author or nominated by a third party (for example, an editor or producer), providing the originator accepts the nomination in writing.
An entry may be submitted by more than one person (for example, a producer and presenter).
Where the entry is a collaborative effort, all major contributors (producers, researchers, journalists and editors) should be included on the entry form and any supporting documentation. A team entry may comprise up to five individuals. If there are more than five major contributors, the entry will be attributed to the section of the newspaper or magazine, the organisation or program.
The Australian Sports Commission reserves the right to verify the entry using the editor/producer contact details provided on the entry form.
Journalists/organisations entering a different nomination for more than one category must complete a separate entry form for each category.
If it meets the eligibility criteria, the same item can be entered in more than one category, provided a separate entry and entry form is submitted for each category.
All entries should be factually correct and must be the author’s own work.
Each entry should be uploaded or supplied separately.
Photograph entries should be supplied in JPEG or TIFF format.
Broadcast entries should be supplied in QuickTime MOV format.
Radio entries should be supplied in MP3 or AIFF format.
Print entries should be supplied in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.
Website entries should be supplied as web addresses (URL).
The judges have the right to reject an entry which, in their opinion, does not comply with the requirements of the Australian Sports Commission Media Awards, including but not limited to, category suitability and entry requirements.
The judges have the right to place a nomination in another category if, in their opinion, it fits better into that category.
The judges’ decision is final. No discussion or correspondence will be entered into.
The Australian Sports Commission reserves the right to use all material submitted and to reproduce it solely for the purpose of promoting the Australian Sports Commission Media Awards.
The Australian Sports Commission reserves the right to withdraw an entry and/or award winner if it finds out at a later date that the entrant did not comply with the entry conditions.
