Ashes 2019

Who are the main threats going to be for England?

Their strengths probably lie with their bowling. We know Anderson and Broad are a completely different kettle of fish in England. We also won’t have much respite at first change if Woakes converts his white ball form.

Root is the clear standout batsman but they’ve never been able to settle an opening pair over the last few years so there’s opportunities for us there (keeping in mind India were always 1 down early and still thrashed us at home). Their batting wasn’t really that strong when India toured their last summer but they always got themselves over the line through their lower order, Sam Curran made important runs a few times. Woakes and Broad are also good lower order batsman so a major task will be finishing the job if we can get through the top order. This is probably where Starc is a good inclusion.

Neser has taken two early poles sending Warner and Harris back to the pavilion. Swings it a country mile so we could see him at some stage throughout the series.

Were the bowlers sublime or the batters ordinary? I’m going to assume there were some good balls from the bowlers but it seems more likely they bowled in good areas and the batsman played at balls they shouldn’t have, a bit like the ODI semi. Apart from Smith who’s a player who can graft a century like Pujara? I feel like we need another guy who can come in and stick around if we lose quick wickets. Maybe Labuschagne? This could be the thing that counts against Wade who scores his runs pretty quick fire.

Justice for the boundary count. Isn’t Ireland’s strength batting anyway? This is almost better than them losing the WC.

Diunno whether to laugh or cry at the goings-on at Lord's. Might jolt the Poms into doing something sensible come the Ashes.

Bangers might just have played himself into the team for the first test here. He's 93no and leading the chase when others haven't made much. Him, along with Patto and Siddle have done their chances a power of good in this game.

Going to be interesting test series, with both teams/squads struggling with the bat in the two games this week. Good to see that our bowlers are getting some decent action off the wickets too.
