Talk about not being able to see the wood for the trees. Mr Llong clearly not suited to the TV umpire role. NZ Cricket need to consult the Scottish RU to see how they can get a readjuducation. ;)

What I can see from DRS decision is it just shows the Indian cricketers are correct, they say it still doesn't guarantee the right decision. Either way them's the breaks ,you get rough calls sometimes and unfortuneatly the Black caps are perhaps not good enough to be able to not let it effect them too much.

It was a bit of a shocker IMO, but no matter. We can now claim the moral victory -- the second best type of victory (the first, of course, being by default).

Yes I can almost hear the "I told you so" from the BCCI.

As all sports have discovered, human beings still make mistakes - and there's simply no way that bringing more and more technology in will change that.

So Straya need 187. I reckon we're ~80 short of a defendable total. Thanks for that, Nigel.

Bringing Craig on has squandered any slight chance we had of winning this. He was dealt to by a hobbling tail-end cripple last innings, so what makes McCullum think he'll fare any better against fully able batsmen?

Notwithstanding being dudded by an appalling DRS decision, as I said at the time, NZ were 80-100 short in the first innings. Also some poor batting by Boult at the end - Bracewell could have conceivably put on anywhere from 20-50 runs there at the end only for Boult to go for a ridiculous slog and be bowled middle stump.

Voges and SMarsh holding on - just - but we look like we will get there. NZ really need to bowl an almost perfect session here to snatch an improbable victory.

McCullum needs to rotate his 3 quicks in this night session and leave the spinners to field.

Voges out, edge to slips pushing out in front of his body.

MMarsh doing his best to follow suit.

Tubby Taylor still beating the SMarsh drum - apparently he's unlucky.:rolleyes:

Well, the Marsh's saw the team through a tough period and have set up victory. Shame Mitch threw his wicket away

I've been very dubious about the day night test but this has been tops. Might be because the pitch had a bit in it. Minho be because of the night session. Either way . What a pity this isn't a 5 test series. NZ have been great.

What can you say about Shaun Marsh. Has the best technique in the team. All but gets us home and then throws it away with that awful waft on 49.

Shame it doesn't look like hell ever fulfil his potential. Technique and talent just aren't enough. Need the temperament too.

If only Southee had been able to copypasta his first over. Oh well. Hopefully the NZ tests will be as competitive as Adelaide, and not as dull as Perth-- which I believe they will be.

Unfortunately he just doesn't quite have what it takes at international level. (Much like Voges IMO)

MMarsh is worth perservering with - his bowling is more than valuable, but he's not a test no.6. As the commentary team have suggested, he should be coming in after Nevill.

From what I've seen in this series and in England in the winter, this NZ team are as good as anyone on their day. Their big problem seems to be that they have a really poor session or a really poor hour of cricket too often, which takes the pressure off their opposition and undoes so much of the great cricket that they play. Williamson would be picked in any team in the world at the moment.

Brilliant test match, which was practically ruined by the DRS controversy yesterday. I'm increasingly leaning to the Indian view that we shouldn't use it. If it's not improving decisions then why do we have it, or maybe we take the Ian Chappell view and have it taken away from the captains and put in the hands of the umpires. None of that is the Aussie team's fault though. They had no influence over the 3rd umpire. I have to say that the umpiring overall in this series has been of a very high standard. Nearly every review has vindicated them and that's great.

I think the score line has flattered us in the end and I think a 1-1 result would have been pretty fair.

At the end of the day this is one of the weakest batting lineups Australia has had for years. The middle order is the worst I can remember (any nominations for a worse 4, 5, 6?)

And yet NZ couldn't bowl Aus out twice in any of the matches.

    That does tell a story

A bit harsh to say the DRS decision has ruined this test. I suspect he did exactly what he is meant to do when presented with contradictory evidence and that is sway towards the on field decision.

However I will say I'd change the DRS system entirely. I'd remove the predictive tracking ability entirely and just allow it to be reviewed a) if the ball was hit or not hit (with hot spot and snicko) and b) if it landed in the correct spot/struck in line.

I'm happy to keep with the umpires decision one if the stumps were going to be hit for lbw.

PS McCullum used the DRS pretty appallingly over the series, using it for very close reviews then not having any left for the more obvious ones.

For a bloke who is held up high in regards to the spirit of cricket - he sure doesn't mind having a review on umpires decisions that look mostly correct. (He is also pretty good at appealing for wickets he doesn't think are out as well.)
