England offered the fools gold out wide and we took it. That sums the game up for me.
This. Noting off that we
did take it on occasion and that our speed getting wide was at time breath-taking and resulted in huge gains and occasional points. Not enough to win off as it turns out, but impressive as hell at the time.
Wallabies are gonna drop in World Rugby rankings again and if you lose in Argentina the drop will continue.
Yep. This hurts but we have gone backwards and if the rankings are considered a metric, which they should be, that series was not in any way a pass mark for Rennie and his crew.
BUT, I like the rugby we are playing. I like the depth we are building (crumbs, think about the injury toll). We muscled up to England which is no bad thing even if we didn't win the game/series it is some sort of platform. The backline is looking close to a WB product. I think we have come to conclusions on the loose forwards. Our second row is selecting itself, yes a few percentage points more more be great, but what a treasure un-earthing Frost last night.
We need a good scrum doctor, probably someone from the NH. Lost the black arts last night, or at least the game of getting the refs opinion. Porecki was being worked at one point and I'm not convinced it wasn't simple kidology. Let's not forget Tupou back from injury and some head space issues, Slipper has been so swapped around he actually suggested (playfully) he might pack in the row. Give him a chance to settle at LH.
Line outs are a huge improve, both hookers mostly hitting target.
FWIW I love that we get to build via the NH before facing NZ in a Bled. I like where Rennie is taking us. Still a drop in rankings. This is not a pass mark for me.
Also - the fuck is going on at the Reds? Wilson and Tupou were both terrible.
Something I suspect, but I don't think that is what we were seeing last night. Tupou return from injury and head space stuff, little polishing required, and neither Slipper or Porecki fully shining. Wilson has missed the chance to knock off the edges in earlier game. Sure in internationals you may only get one shot (just consider Frost) but I think he's fine - if not currently on form ahead of the other WBs.
