I think there has been a few; probably not at the level of the league world cup.

Before the rule changes I can think of one; Ilivasi Tabua.

Ilie as he was called represented Australia at the Sevens RWC in 1993 and then the RWC in 1995. He then represented Fiji at the RWC in 1999.

I do also know that Semi Taupeaafe (Waratahs) represented Australia at the Sevens RWC in 1993 and then Tonga at the 1995 and 1999 RWC's. The same happened to an NZ/Samoa representative called Junior Paramore.

Then the rules changed and have been solid ever since. I know there was a push to alter them in 2009 but it was vetoed by IRB who did not want to see a farce like the RLWC with players moving between Tier 1 and Tier 2 nations.

I remember this because there were several ex-All Blacks at the time (most of whom were playing in Europe) looking to play for pacific island teams at the 2011 RWC.

Individual members of the Touring Squad should know they have been selected today.

There will be some very happy boys and families.

They may not know the full makeup of the Squad.

Congratulations to them, but remember that there is Matriculation exams to prepare for in the next month.

A guernsey for Aust Schoolboys is by no means a guaranteed position in a Super Rugby team let alone a cakewalk into Wallaby Gold. There is plenty of hard work, focus and application before this happens and, for all sorts of reasons, many do not make the it to the next level.

You seem pretty keen on the other code: I'd be interested to know if you think there's more chance of a kid from Saturday's games making the NRL or S15?
A lot of the parents seemed to be talking about player agents sniffing around and I assume they are mainly looking at league for these boys.

Do the maths.

There are 5 Soup Rugby teams. Is there 16 or 17 Mungo teams - who cares, make it 15 to make the maths easier.

Assume that both Rugby and Greco-Roman Rugby need a squad of 40 professional athletes to sustain it.
Assume that the average career in both is 5 seasons.

There are 200 Professional Rugby players with an annual need of 40 new players.
There are 600 Professional Fivekick players with an annual turnover of 120 new players each season.

How many kids play Rugby? What is the chances of Johnny in the U16's picking up one of the 40 rookie contracts?
How many kids play Rugby Loig? What is the chances of Oliver in the Howard Matthews U16 mungo cup picking up one of the 120 rookie contracts?

Player managers/agents have a vested interest in sniffing around the School boy tournaments spinning dreams of rivers of contractual gold. It does happen but it is extremely rare regardless of the code.

Like scholarships, the activities of the player agents "sniffing" around at tournaments will often be misrepresented by parents for vainglory and parental self esteem reasons.

Also, it's easier to get seen in a smaller group and/or fewer get missed.

It's also a pretty loose interpretation of professional.
When you quote that each franchise (in both codes) has 40 odd professional players,how many earn enough to support themselves each year?
How much does an EPS player earn?

With entry at $5 at Knox on Saturday, 3500 (assuming paying) spectators @ $5 - $17500. Should have charged $10 for entry. I don't think too many punters would have refused to pay. $35000 raised to cover costs and to subsidise Europe tour.

Lee I have to differ with some of your assessments. I was disappointed in Deegan and thought he made a number of poor decisions most particularly not giving his back line the opportunities that they needed to win this game. The forward contest in this game was immense and extremely physical and the Kiwis got the upper hand- just - but enough to get them home. The Ozboys looked best when they went wide but it didn't happen nearly often enough - barely at all in the first half until the later stages when they looked very potent. I would have thought that the half time message would have been to exploit the opportunities that we clearly had in strength and speed out wide and this resulted in a great try early in the 2nd half but it didn't happen often enough to put the game to bed after the boys took a 16-10 lead. Deegan didn't count heads very well and missed opportunities by going on his own on a couple of occasions when the right decision was to send the ball wide. Mind you he wasn't helped by Tepai's one dimensional play. Because of this Kellaway got few opportunities as did Milne but the latter was most impressive with what he did when his chances came. I'd much prefer to see him wearing the number 12 jumper with someone like H Jones at 13 to take maximum advantage of the opportunities Milne's strength, footwork and hands would provide.
I agree with you about Hanigan's contribution as he was a real standout in the forwards as was McCalman when he was restituted to his best position at 7. Faksaosilea was also strong until he went off injured. I was very impressed with a number of the Kiwi forwards with Apasai (2), Chongkit (5) and Ioane (8) all being very strong. Their captain Jacobsen (6) was also very aggressive and played with that on the edge play we have long seen from Kiwi forwards at senior level. The Kiwis seemed well on the wrong side of the penalty count and also had a player yellow carded so did well to come back and win with their 10 McKenzie converting from out wide to give them the slenderest of winning margins at 17-16.

Yes, Stephen Bachop, the younger brother of Graeme. Stephen represented 'Western Samoa' (as it was known then) at the RWC in 1991, and Graeme the All Blacks. Stephen then went on to represent the All Blacks as well.

There were many T2 to T1 moves during that era (i.e. Michael 'Iceman' Jones' - Western Samoa to All blacks in 1987) but rarely did you see any T1 to T2 moves; which of course is now impermissible!

Tabai Matson was an All Black in 1995/96, but no test matches. Then played for Fiji in RWC1999
