Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2016

Hugh, unfortunately I think you are spot on the money with this prediction for the Schoolboys Champs for this year. I do not think Qld will have the strength in the forwards to challenge.
Yep, I'd have to agree. It doesn't help when the premier QLD schoolboy comp hasn't even started yet and they've picked the QLD team.
Something has got to change. Either move the GPS comp back to term 2 or have the trials at the end of term 3. As QLD won't be winning much until it does. Which will also translate through to the Aussie Schoolboys.

National Championships 4th - 9th July

Green and Gold reporting

The National Championships start next Monday, July 4th at Riverview, and end on Saturday 9th July.

Depending on how many writers volunteer to help, we will try to write brief reports on all the Division I matches. These will be played on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The schedule for Div I matches is:

Monday 4th July
10:00am - NSW II v WA
11:30am - Vic v Qld I
1:00pm - ACT v NSW I
2:30pm - Qld II v Combined States

Wednesday 6th July
10:00am - NSW I v CS
11:30am - Qld I v WA
1:00pm - Qld II v ACT
2:30pm - NSW II v Vic

Thursday 7th July
10:00am - Vic v WA
11:30am - CS v ACT
1:00pm - Qld I v NSW II
2:30pm - NSW I v Qld II

Saturday 9th July - Finals Day
9:00am - 7th place playoff
10:15am - 5th place playoff
11:30pm - 3rd place playoff
12:45pm - Championship match

I will probably be able to write two games per day, but I would rather not because I will have to edit the work of a few inexperienced writers as well, which takes a lot of time; so I hope some people can share the load.

So if you are going to the Championships during the week please tell me which day, and which game you would like to report on.

Since most writers will be NSW supporters they may wish to write reports on games that involve NSW - but others have said that they'd rather write on one of the other games so they can concentrate on the NSW matches.

So I hope that some will offer to write on any game and be able to get there early.

I hope some people are able to write on the first two games on Thursday morning because it usually takes me until the early hours to finish my work from the day before, and I may not be able to be at the ground in time that day.

If you are able to attend and to write on a couple of games during the week please let me know here and I will give you some guidelines.

One of them will be that the reports will be just 350 words long; so it is just half as big an ask as for the normal 700 word we report on every weekend.

I understand that people have to work so there is no need to advise that you can't contribute.

Also bear in mind that the games may be streamed live to youTube like happened with last years games.

Writers therefore do not have to be in Sydney (or actually at Riverview) to write a 350 word match report.

Don't let the excuse of "I would love to help but won't be in Sydney that week" get in the way of your willingness to volunteer.

I had forgotten that, if I ever knew.

Does anybody know what time of the day they came out, and were they from sidesteppa - or another known source?

HJ, do you have the details of the streaming channel?

The live streaming of games from Riverview in 2015 was arranged by Aust Schools RU last year, and advertised via their web site.

IIRC coverage was a little "patchy" last year, or at least showing the games on the big screen at Riverview was a little "patchy", and I can only assume that the live stream on the interwebs was as "patchy" as the feed to the big screen at the Venue.

I am sure that one of our readers will find the detail and post a link here when it is announced.

I have assumed that ASRU & ARU will continue to try the live streaming of games. The streaming of the "Tests" last year from Brisbane was excellent.

Hugh has written an excellent preview of the 2016 National Championsips here:

Give it a click.

We still need writers for the National Champs and it may come down to our reporting on just two games per day.

But if you can help please say so here.

Thank you.

Usually Combined States has roughly equal numbers from NSW & QLD.

This year has a predominance of NSW players.

This has to be a sign that the Final will be NSW I v NSW II because of the awesome depth of top notch footy players here. :)

#JusticeForGettingFloggedInU20s.

Probably right... However that said you think that most years. Last year people at the ground were rumouring a landslide to nsw and that simply wasn't the case.

Is your # relating to the number of qld'ers in the u20's? Well I think the team played reasonably well. And you can't complain they were clearly superior to other teams and therefore deserved selection.

^^^^No, it's a reference to the Curtain Raiser Cup fixture. Just don't like getting beaten by QLD, even if they are the better team, which this years U20s were by a long shot.

Only a couple of hours til kick-off in the first game and still no details on the schools rugby web-site about live streaming - anyone know what's happening?

I am really impressed with how Victoria's age grade kids perform. It is dawn on the horizon of the current state of Australian rugby where there is not enough talent for the 5 super rugby teams.
