Agree with pretty much all observations, but just Day 1.
I got the feeling that some NSW 1 players didn't push themselves too hard, probably fair enough.

The ACT team is a pleasure to watch, talk about a team who play for each other, a lot of our younger school teams could learn a lot from watching these under seized go getting champions.
The ACT no. 10 punched way above his weight, and I really like watching 15. Jimenez. no 1. Driti also stood out for me,very powerful and mobile.

The other lad who really shone was the NSW 2 winger from Holy Cross Ryde Risk, serious speed and a fabulous chip/catch try, keep an eye on him.

Hard to really comment much on the 2 QLD sides, although I did think the QLD 1 no.10 Carter Gordon looked very polished, he and Edmed may well be the chosen 10's.

I suspect the Day 2 games will tell a lot.

A great rugby day, well orgainised again at View.
Maybe a review of the speaker system and hooters may assist.
But everything else was tremendous!

Geez Rod you must have really struggled to only fit 6 Barker Boys in your teams !

Sorry I couldn’t help but to take the bait.

Very early days...

And there's 46 spots up for grabs for the 2 Schoolboy teams.

Is anyone else struggling to see Jersey #s on Combined States and NSW2?

Whoever chose black numbers on dark green jerseys needs an uppercut. Likewise white numbers on white and light blue hoopso_O

1. Angus Bell (NSW1)/Zane Horgan (ACT)
2. Jack Winchester (NSW 2)
3. Apinesa Driti (ACT)/Zane Nonngor (QLD1)
4. Tom Hooper (NSW 2)
5. Jeremy Williams (NSW 1)
6. Luca Moretti (NSW 1)
7. Donny Freeman (NSW 1)
8. Bailey Tau Tau (QLD 1)
9. Reece Anapu (WA)
10. Carter Gordon (QLD 1)
11. Glen Vaihu (QLD 1)
12. Joey Walton (NSW 1)
13. Lachlan Ilias (NSW 1)
14. Jangala Bennet (QLD 1)
15. Brendan Jimenez (ACT)

This is starting to look like a strong Aus team, probably a bit too NSW/QLD1 centric though as well.

Think about who could actually compete against NZ.

My go at selecting a Schoolboys and Barbarians team after the first day’s play.

Bound to create a bit of talk.

Australian Schoolboys

1 Bell (NSW 1)
2 Pollard (NSW 1)
3 Driti (ACT)
4 Williams (NSW 1)
5 Chaffey (Qld 1)
6 van der Schyff (Qld 1)
7 Reimer (NSW 1)
8 Moretti (NSW 1)
9 Jeans (Qld 1)
10 Edmed (NSW 1)
11 Bryden (CS)
12 Pasitoa (Qld 1)
13 Waight (Qld 1)
14 Vaihu (Qld 1)
15 Connolly (NSW 1)

Australian Barbarians

1 Downes (Qld1 Res)
2 Kopua (Qld 1)
3 Fonua (CS) or whoever played 3 for CS.
4 Dring (NSW2)
5 Flaherty (CS)
6 Wellington (CS)
7 Freeman (NSW 1)
8 Harris (NSW 1)
9 Tejcek (NSW 2)

11 Tricks (NSW1)
12 walton (NSW 1)
13 (Ilias (NSW1)

Would you seriously have only 2 ACT players in the 2 squads...?
Perhaps they need to win the tournament to be recognised, Wait a minute...

I thought the opening ACT try was the right winger ( Haddad )

???

Whether it was Haddad or Toole - it was all class

I agree with you re : Fox in QLD 2 but Zac Crothers ( 2 ) was exceptional , and for mine , was the 2 of the day

Ben Geraghty ( 6 ) can also hold his head up in a very productive outing - I think with 3 x turnovers won in the contest .

Not much to talk about in QLD 2 outside of Crothers , Geraghty and Fox

Driti ( 1 ) Hogan ( 3 ) Haddad ( 14 ) and Jiminez ( 15 ) were a cut above

ACT back Row were good but allowed to dominate as much as they did with sloppy handling by QLD 2 and a large part of the team seemingly indifferent to protecting the attack ruck

Fun fact on Corey Toole from the ACT side. 3 weeks ago he played (started on the right wing) for the ACT Provincial Brumbies side against the NSW Country Cockatoos mens side. I am certain he would have no issue playing at a higher level than these champs.

Agree that Carter Gordon is the class 10 of this year’s crop but was very impressed with Jude Gibbs .

He’s a very composed game manager

Both starting Props , the Right Wing and the Fullback look the goods

The whole ACT team does tbh .....they are very fundamental and well coached - 1 through 23 play with genuine commitment

These young guys are hard heads . I dig it

The 6 was Brett Wellington (Scots), 8 was Alex Rahme (Aloys), and 11 Ben Bryden (Barker). Personally thought Rahme was the best forward for CS, though clearly others (not including SLV) didn't think so.

He was subbed off at half-time, then returned about 15 minutes into the 2nd half , with the coaches hoping he could steady the rapidly sinking ship.

Saunders is one to watch for the rest of the tournament I think, very mobile with great skills as well I believe he also used to play 13, theres nothing as good as a prop who runs like he's an outside back. Ive seen him in the club system over the years and he has consistently been a higher rep selection.

But agreed on Rahme and Wellington they were standouts yesterday for CS as well as that joeys halves pairing, Gibbs was pretty solid and bar a few mistakes the half back was also very decent. Its obvious Easy is disappointed with not getting selected with the amount of carries he put his hand up for yesterday. Hopefully CS might be able to get a big win tomorrow but if WA play as well as they did for most of the second half yesterday it could be a very tough game.

To defuse the response to my initial teams, it has been pointed out to me that on Saturday after the games, the selectors will announce a squad of 40 lads which will make up both the schoolboy and the Baabaas side, with an additional 6 players added to the mix at a later date, without actually specifying which team each lad is targeted for....

Here's a tip,

Whilst he got 10 mins in the bin having just come on for the CS team on Tuesday.

I suspect Lathan Hutchinson-Walters will emerge as the tournament progresses.
His direct running style, aggressiveness and ball skills, if on show, should be prominent.

That would be unusual.
I knew about the 6 players being added later but not to name each individual team would be surprising.
