Great coach, great team but still 5 imports and Sam Greene repeat thats a fair few..
But when you put that into perspective it isn't that many. Most other schools have 6 or more imports in their First XV, other than Terrace, who have 3 (if you include Jack Heenan). And someone repeating doesn't count as an import, nor does someone who has been at the school since year 8.

Emtage would have to be given a lot of credit for the development of Sam Greene. In 2010, Sam was a 65kg kid who stepped up to fill the #10 jersey of the injured Aus Schools A fly-half Grant Davies on the back of some exceptional performances in the 16A's. Now he's regarded as one of the best schoolboy #10's in the country, and would almost certainly be the best kicker. He's been known for his massive boot since before exposure to the 1sts set-up but Emtage has without question fine tuned Greene's tactical nous and general playing ability.

I beg to differ, some boys who've been at a school since Year 8 should definitely count as imports. But players developed by the schools like BGS's Lakehm Aiono, Matt Marsden, Sam Greene, Al Harper, Michael Gilbert et al. don't really fit the label of "import".

Regardless, every school does it, but it obviously counts for nothing if they aren't coached and managed properly- just look at BBC and ACGS.

Former Knox Grammar Coach Chuck Ardron would have to be one of the best schoolboy coaches of the last 15 years. he won premierships in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2010 from memory. he also had a year sabatical coaching the Gordon 1st XV.

From a previous thread it would appear papahatzis of Auggies has won 9 Waratah Shields over an extended period of years with two different schools. Auggies went from a good rugby league school with many 1st grade players produced to a rugby union strong hold.
Coached NSW to win this year. Unsure of any other previous success.

He has also coached Aust 19s a few years ago now. Just about anyone who I've spoken to who has been in one of his teams says he's one of the best around.

Steve Phillpots of Brisbane Boys College is the current Australian Schoolboys coach and after last year he and Tim Rapp(Newington) became the most successful Australian Schoolboys coaches ever. 3 years 3 wins against NZ schoolboys including ONLY the 2nd win in NZ ever(last year).

Special mention to Jim Lucy of BSHS -coach of the 1977 "the invincibles" with the Ella bros, Wally Lewis, Michael Oconnor ,Michael Hawker etc who toured the British Isles undefeated.(and setting schoolboy drinking records that have stood the test the time)
