Suncorp is bloody awesome and queenslanders know how to build an atmosphere so its really great when AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) hugs the crowd and even better when Cliffy scores under the posts ;)
The SFS & SCG is a great sporting precinct, but you could hear a pin drop during the games. mind you, the crowd got really involved during the end of the blues game

I have to admit that, after watching the force game, Queenstown is simply beautiful and I wish the Wallabies were based there insted of AMI stadium *shudder* in christchurch.

And no one has mentioned coogee oval yet? :nta: the rise of the Galloping Greens and the Ella brothers is inspirational

Due to lack of travel, best stadium for rugby for me is Suncorp, Brisbane. Just a great spectators venue, easy to get to, close to the city, have never had any problem there, apart from the Reds losing.

Been to the MCG once for an AFL game, before the latest renovations were finished. It is just a hugggeee arena, and even with just 20,000, still has a great atmostphere. So much history behind it.

It would be great if the Wallabies could give the All Blacks an arse kicking right in front of the Deans stand at AAMI. :lmao: :lmao:

What I still don't get, is why the capacity is only 50k yet the Irish team constantly get 80k to six nations matches, and the Wallabies match last year was 70k.

However I have to say the stadium looks fantastic, and should have a fantastic atmosphere.

My understanding is there is a lot restrictions due to shading or sight lines from surrounding residential areas. Hence the reason why it is a funny shape, and why the reduction in capacity. Of course there are other geographical restrictions such as the train line.

Thomond,

My stated view of Twickers does not take into account travel, location. It is just about the atmosphere - and the English do it better than most i have seen.

And of course it isn't basically in Reading, it is near one of the nicer spots in London, IMO, Richmond. Great for a beer down by the river before a game.

Populous are the architects behind a lot of the stadium work in the world (formerly known as HOK sport). The only have about 10 offices around the world, but one is in Brisbane, and I think another in Auckland. Check out their website if you are interested in stadium design:

Buro Happold is a company I worked for in Bath, and do some of the most amazing engineering work of any company in the world. If you are interested in architecture, and how engineers manage to ensure crazy architect ideas don't fall down, then check out this:

Yep.

Currently have a business that specialises in residential and light commercial/industrial, but have previously worked in pretty much everything except for bridges.

The stadium is pretty interesting up front and I have been luck enough to work on ones such as O2 Arena in the Millennium dome, Kazakstan's national stadium in Astana, some feasibility works for roofing the stadium in Marseille and competion for design the London Aquatic centre (we didn't win unfortunately). Once you get into the nitty gritty though, the stadium work gets boring quickly. Lucky I only had to get into the nitty gritty of one of those!

cool. i'm just getting started now that i'm done with school so i'd say you have juuust a tad more experience than me. sounds like you've done some pretty awesome stuff.

i worked at a larger firm in seattle as an intern but they went in the tank with the economy so i'm back to a smaller firm on the east coast usa (also used to intern there).

If you move to New York, I'd recommend looking up Buro Happold for a job. They are pretty good to work with, and the director in charge of new york was pretty cool IRC.

Otherwise if you are coming to Oz, let me know and I'll see if I can either give you a job or point you in the right direction!
