Western Force v Cheetahs

Shepherd back (can't guarantee he'll last the warmup tho') as is JO'C at F/B, Justin Turner gets his first start (deserved) and Hockings, Henderson and Charles rotation. Fairbrother is fit again and starting.

Staniforth is back in Perth after a neck injury.

One question: Why would Mitch be rotating Whittaker if Charles is only on loan and still a Brumbies player?

I believe they've offered Charles a contract for next year. Maybe this is a way of showing they are serious??

I think they are showing Charles that life in the West isn't so bad.

If it works they will have two reasonably experienced and talented young hookers jousting for jerseys next year rather than one experienced one and up-and-comer. I think it's clever.

Re: Charles. Yep, that's the reason. He has just signed a two year contract with the Force - announced this morning.

They didn't say that Sheehan was not considered due to injury, although you'd wonder why they selected O'Young on the bench when he's going to finish up next week.

that seems like a good move.

who is next in line at hooker for the brumbies after moore and edmonds? will they miss him?

does anyone know if the brumbies are compensated at all because of his signing? i suppose he's free to sign with whomever but signing with the team he was loaned to seems a little odd to me....

Charles is a real hooker, Edmonds is a seagull

Great signing by the Force, he is a good hooker

Uglia? Surely he'd be next off. Unless he goes to Rebels, he is Victorian after all.

That would make the Brumbies think twice before lending their accademy players next time. You'd hope the Brumbies are at least given a chance to make a counter offer...

1. their next purchase

2. they are not. why on earth should they be?

what do you mean? Do you know something we don't? Are they about to sign another hooker?

because the Brumbies have been developing Charles through their academy. Giving him access to expertise in coaching, facilities and other players. The Force could have signed any old hooker running around playing club footy, but they went for someone who is paid for by the Brumbies. As the Reds have done previously with Brett Sheehan. Seems only fair.

along the lines of what i was thinking noddy. if he had come back for any time with the ponies or gone to any other team, i say fair enough. but signing while he's still on loan seems like a bit of a swipe to me.

did the force pay the brumbies for the loan? i'm not sure how that works honestly.

i'm not complaining, i just feel like it's a business aspect of it.

How much did the Brumbies pay to Sydney University, NSWRU and Charles' old school for developing him? Seems only fair that the Brumbies should have paid those bodies for their coaching and facilities which made him a professional player.

Question: did the QRU pay the Brumbies and Tahs for Waugh's and Sheehan's time, respectively, when they were very short-handed at 4/5 and 9? Weren't these two episodes "short-term loans"?

Biffo, did he have a contract with any of those organisations?

lindo, I've already mentioned Sheehan. Are you talking Warwich Waugh? Was that a simialar situation? Either way, I agree that they should've for the exact same reasons.

We have digressed a very long way from the subject of this thread. If anyone wants to debate the merits of transfer and development fees, can he please start a specialist thread?

The Brumbies can only get compensated for the contracted time Charles was at Force and under contract. That compensation could have been as little as paying his wages and thus reducing the Brumbies costs.

Because. really. what is the real value of an unused third choice Academy player.

Anthony Hegarty would now be next in line- pretty similar player to Charles

Ulugia was only offered a short term contract at the start of the year when Brumbies went through their injury crisis

True, but if they thought Hegarty or Charles were up to it wouldn't they have been upgraded?
