And so it begins again:

The IPL has announced an exhaustive list of 111 overseas players who will be considered for the second auction in Goa on February 6. Not surprisingly, Australians dominate the list (27) while the big difference from last year's edition is the addition of 21 England players.

Each franchise has a maximum of US$2m to spend on their overseas signings in the auction, which gets underway on February 6, and it is likely that only about 16 players - or two per franchise - will be chosen out of the 112.

The England players will be available for a three-week window in the tournament for the next two years, with Kevin Pietersen the star attraction. Pietersen has a base price of US$1.3 million, and it is expected that he could be the highest paid player. Veterans like Dominic Cork and Darren Gough also figure in the list.

"We are extremely happy with the interest the league has garnered globally," said Lalit Modi, the IPL commissioner, "and look forward to the action at the second player auction in Goa."

No Mitchell Johnson again? Tough decision for him, but a fantastic one I feel. Don't think his body could hold up for too much cricket. Whereas Tait can just become a travelling circus freak and become some sort of 20/20 specialist.

I love seeing Tait bowl his one or two overs of unplayable balls with batsmen seeming genuinely scared, however I hold exact zero hope of him ever being a consistent performer for Australia or ever being considered for the test team.

I'm sure Tait has publicly conceded any chance of playing the longer form at the highest level. Seems a more mature player since that decision.

Given he's really only good for 2-3 over spells he would be an unreliable option.

Siddle is the future. Not sure about Bollingers long term chances, but his stock probably got higher with Clark gooorrnnn. Hilfenhaus mmmmm I don't think he does enough with it.

I'd like to think they would persist witg Krazy. He's a wicket taker, but he just needs to learn consistent length. something that only comes from experience. I still don't like how OZ cricket dealt with Cullen. He had Warnes fire and competitiveness and could still bowl it a bit. He just needed time....

Symonds should just hand back the baggy green and blazer or check it into storage. He shouldn't have been ahead of Watson in the lasr series and should be ahead of D Hussey, Hodge, MacDonald and others. He has next to no form and his bowling is less effective these days.

Ponting is still the best 3 and Katich is playing the new ball like a beach ball. Jacques has eniugh runs on the board as an opener to just slot back in like for like. No reshuffle required IMO.

Johnson snubbed them, like he did last season, to focus on playing for Australia. Good on him!

I'm surprised to not see Warner there, the IPL would be a great experience for him too.

Warner opening with Sehwag, that'll be something else. Dirk Nannes was recently acquired by Delhi as well, they've got an awesome side.

Phillip Hughes is another who opted out of the IPL, preferring instead a county stint to bolster his chances for Ashes selection. He was hoping to play for Middlesex (home ground Lords), or Durham (Division 1 side). Good luck to him, I reckon he's more likely to go to South Africa than Jaques, especially on current form

South African batsman JP Duminy's rising stature in international cricket was reflected in the final IPL auction list of 43 cricketers. Duminy's base price has been pegged at US$300,000, the most expensive after those of Kevin Pietersen, Michael Clarke and Andrew Flintoff.

The new list has only 43 players - the original had 111 - and includes 15 from Australia, four from Bangladesh, seven from England, three from New Zealand, five from South Africa, four from Sri Lanka, and five from the West Indies.

Each franchise has a maximum of US$2m to spend on their overseas signings in the auction. The bidding for Pietersen will start at $1.35m, while that for Clarke and Flintoff will begin at $1m and $950,000 respectively.

Lalit Modi, the IPL commissioner, said the franchises with Pakistan players on their roster would be allowed to use money equal to the cost of the player to make purchases after the auction. Pakistan players have not been allowed by their government to participate in the league this season.

"The Pakistan players have a three-year contract with the franchises and the only reason of their unavailability could be injuries. But since that is not the case here, we will have to look at the legal aspect of the issue," Modi said. "The spots for Pakistan players will be freed up and the money they invested on these players last year would be made automatically available post auction, so that the teams can buy new replacement players."

Modi told Cricinfo that if franchises buy replacements for Pakistan players from the auction - as they are entitled to - they would have to stay within the US$ 2 million cap. "After the auction, they will be allowed to spend the equivalent of what they would have paid the Pakistan player for this year on a replacement," Modi said. "However, this replacement will have to be from our original list of players that was released last week."

The new group also includes ten players who were not on the original one: Aaron Bird, Brett Geeves, Daniel Harris, Dominic Thornley, Jon Moss, Phil Jaques, Steven Smith, Samit Patel, Chamara Kapugedera and Jerome Taylor. Geeves was with the Delhi Daredevils for the IPL's inaugural season, while Kapugedera and Thornley played for the Chennai Superkings and Mumbai Indians respectively.

Can't believe Bird is in the list. He's suspended for chucking, despite being a proficient wicket taker.

But who is Michael Hill????

And no Brad Haddin? Is it because he's a cheat?

Yeah can't quite understand the logic of the final selections. I would have thought guys like Carseldine, Bollinger, Klinger and Dighton would have been great value buys for an IPL franchise but they seem to have been overlooked. Whilst Jon Moss may be ripping up Sydney grade cricket at present, you'd have to wonder whether he is more worthy than, say, Ashley Noffke.
