I was absolutely screaming at my TV when Ross came on for an uncontested scrum and they took Savea off. NZ manager cheating again.

It's pretty simple. When a prop gets carded, you're allowed to bring on a replacement prop to complete the scrums and drop someone else off.

Now both TH props were off the field and a scrum was called. NZ manager decided to bring Ross on (a LH). He's allowed to scrum at TH if he wants to but he didn't so they called uncontested scrums.

Basically, Ross comes on and Savea went off. A normal substitute. Can't be reversed.

It wasn't a prop replacement for a card.

Okay so they tried to bring Savea back on but unsuccessfully yes?

also wasn’t there some rule if you cause uncontested scrums then you lose a player?

Yes.

For the second point, that occurs when you bring on a non-prop injury replacement that causes uncontested scrums. It's so teams don't field an unfair team, 1 prop v 2 props etc.

So if Taa'vao is red carded. Then Ofa gets injured, you replace him with Sowakula, that causes uncontested (no TH props available) but NZ would need to drop another player.

I believe NZ should've gone down to 12 actually. Injury or cards.
