Went to the Wests V Whites game and wow what a stop start, slug-fest (not really in a good way) - prob the worst 50 odd minutes of Rugby I have seen the Whites play in I don't know how long - they finally (sort-of) started to kick into gear with 20-30 mins to go and got the win.

The Whites looked extremely fatigued and must of been a result of last weeks game - the players just didn't have that "spark" they have had in past weeks - if I was the coaching stuff this weeks training would be pretty light and possibly rest some players in the Easts game next week.

Saw Eagles beat the Vikings - which is huge - Eagles have now beat both the Whites and Vikings - they are really going to be pushing for that 2nd spot on the ladder - the Whites REALLY need to watch out as they NEED the 2nd/1st spot finish.

Did the Vikings also look fairly fatigued? (If anyone went)

Great game out at Viking park today. I thought it was going to be hard to top last week but it was pretty damn close.

Having been rooting for tuggeranong the last few weeks. I sat down with the gungahlin fans to broaden my horizons a little and found myself going for the underdog.

Vikings scrum wasn't good. It was improved from last week but still needs a lot f work. I don't really know what you need to do to fix a scrum but whatever it is they need to do it.

Strong games from tuidraki, connelly and rocky really carried the Eagles. They were strong at the breakdown and converted most of their opportunities into points.

From the Vikings oakman-hunt was big as were the two props (even though the scrum struggled), Thompson was also impressive. Robinson didn't have his usual big impact but the Vikings backs didn't see much pill.

Vikings had a penalty goal to win at the death and it just missed.

All credit to the Eagles they had their best game of the year and if they can bring that kind of play into the finals they could really do some good things.

Great day all up!

No 8. Vikings looked really tired early and found themselves down 17 - 3 after about 30. They looked more like themselves for the last 50. But it's always hard to chase that much.

Cheers mate - sounds like both sides were both possibly struggling due to last weeks huge game.

Whites would of honestly lost today if they had played Eagles - no disrespect to Wests - and the game did go somewhat how I thought it would but Whites were bad today - def in the 1st 40 they were just terrible.

I watched 2nd's and N.Noa is a really good player (u20's Raiders player last year) - big, strong, fast - classic islander wing/centre - really not sure how he hasn't had more time in 1sts (possibly due to development). Also have not seen JR again for the last 2 weeks - anyone know if he is injured?

Also what is going on with the Vikings 2nd and 3rd grade sides - 3rd grade looking like they could miss out on the finals - for the 1st time since I don't know when and 2nd grade looking like they might drop down to 3rd/4th position.

I agree that Vikings looked very tired today from the outset. After half time they appeared to have a little more zing, and to come back to within 1 point was pretty gritty. I don't thing that the Eagles necessarily played any better then usual..Vikings probably had their worst game of the season also. Many people under estimate the physicality of last weeks hit up with Q'byn. To defend for as long as they did on their line could only mean some very tired and sore bodies this week..Congrats to the Eagles though. They came to play.

How good is this finals series shaping up. What odds would you have teams at? I'd go:

QBN - $2.20
Vikings - $2.30
Darra - $5.50
Royals - $6
Any other team - $50

Could not agree more - sounds like the Vikings and Queanbeyan played very similar games yesterday - last weeks game was insanely brutal - it was the most physical game I have seen in I don't know how long and it has, from the looks of things really taken it out of the players.

For Whites as I mentioned I would be having a very light week of training - and then possibly resting some players like OJ Noa, Caril Elliot, Toby Smith, Jones, Barbs - and just re-setting and going again.

For Vikings it does not get any easier next week who have to travel to Jamison and play Wests - who will want to bash the Vikings into another slug-fest - Wests are prob the most physical side in the comp and have the 2nd best scrum behind Whites - they lack finishing skills but Vikings I think will get away with the win - but physically it does not give them any rest.

Adding to that I don't believe they have the ability to rest any players due to their 2nd grade side struggling hard at the moment and needing a full-strength side V's Wests next week to get a Must-Win, win.

Looking at the Eagles run home -

Round 14 - Royals @Gungahlin
Round 15 - BYE
Round 16 - Wests @Gungahlin
Round 17 - Uni @ANU

If they could sneak out win's in all games and get a bonus point win here and there they could push for 2nd spot - the the top 3 sides now its not about being no.1 its about locking in a top 2 spot in the off-chance they don't get straight through to the GF in the 1st semi.

As silly as it sounds, I think Darra sneaking into second would be a great outcome for QBN if it bumped them to third. I know everyone prefers the easy path into the GF but QBN has a soft run into the finals and late bye. If QBN can get to the GF with limited injury on a bit of a run having beaten 4 and the loser of the major semi it would have them much better placed in my mind.

Could not disagree more. You don't want to fall into 3rd place and then face sudden death during the first week if you have been in the top 2 teams all year. Having said that, I still believe it will be a Queanbeyan vs Royals grand final.
What did people make of Gungahlin? I think I have underestimated them big time. They seem to have finally sorted out their best back-row combination with Rocky and Duffy.
How did young gun Jamie Kotz go?

Dara appears to be figuring it out at the right time of year. If I was involved over there I'd be a little concerned for the following reason. Dara was dominant against a Vikings side who looked very flat and still only beat them by a point. Second half score was 20 - 7 to Vikings. For me that would be a little concerning.

I still think the clear favorites are Vikings and Queanbeyan. Should the Vikings lose this weekend I'll change my tune. Dara played a great game on the weekend but I can't see Vikings performing for the fist 30 minutes of a finals game the way they did Saturday.

Kotz scored a really good try Saturday. I didn't realize how fast he was. If he continues to develop there's no telling how good he could be.

I guess time will tell but I would say a Vikings v Darra GF would be just as likely as a QBN v Royals at this point given the blue baggers form slump. I think you can pencil Tuggies in for one place and I really think Darra will push QBN all the way for the other.

A teams focus should always be to get into the top 2 to give them 2 chances to get into the final - they have beaten Vikings this year so its not like thier impossible to beat and Whites playing Vikings at Viking Park are always a better side.

Something I have come to understand this year is that no game has been easy - the Whites have had to fight for every game (besides Easts) - I think having Easts this weekend seeing how fatigued they looked on Saturday is perfect and then 2 tough games V's Royals at Phillip (which Royals could win) then Uni - which both games have been less then 10 - one they ONLY just won at home by 1 point.

Eagles are building nicely and have a good mix of youth and experience - they could win the comp for sure - they have beaten both the Vikings and Queanbeyan this year and have Royals this weekend - if they go on to beat Royals this weekend and they look good after what sounds to be a slug-fest V's Vikings then I'll be worried.

Whites really need to focus on the bonus point/for and against this weekend V's Easts - as Eagles are only 4 points behind now on the ladder.

Michael Jones? Think he'll be playing at Bruce this weekend.
