Ok, I don't know who said or did what, don't really care. Seems to be a bit of childishness going on, but thats about only thing I have picked up out of whole thing except for a couple of points!
1 It appears the senior playing group are not in harmony with team management or ARU about what should or did happen! Problem
2 Everybody is waiting for hearing etc etc to see what happens, I say bullshit it should of been sorted straight away (did Hansen wait for hearing to tell Cruden he was off tour for being late to gathering place or whatever before they went on tour? Also note senior playing group either agreed thats what should happen or shut the fuck up!!)!! Adds weight to Mitchells assertion that Aussie players are not prepared to just play and want to have too much say in running game! So another problem.
So seems a big problem that is being dragged on too long and hurting the game in this country, and by geez the game doesn't need to make it harder for itself than it already is!

Dan I'm not sure the Cruden and Beale incidents are comparable. Cruden went on a bender. This only affected him. Beale's actions as has the ARU have announced have directly affected another person in the team environment. He was stood down and it is prudent that an investigation occur.

It is a serious issue and one that under WHS laws needs due process and that takes time.

Just because you don't like content that doesn't conform to your bias, doesn't make it bad journalism mate.

No, what makes it bad journalism:

The text messages to Patston are tasteless, even if he didn't mean to send them to Patston.

Yet it is evident he's being thrown under the bus as the ARU scrambles, praying for this latest humiliation to disappear.

Oh, so it wouldn't have been tasteless if he hadn't sent them to her?

And he's being thrown under the bus?

Was there a greater conspiracy involved in the creation and sending of the text messages? Does Webster not realise that this analogy does not work when someone is directly punished for their actions?

Of course this is humiliating though............ I'm sure that the ARU are humiliated for keeping Beale under contract................ but not nearly as humiliating as what Di Patson felt.
Sniff around this story, though, and you quickly learn the problem with the Wallabies isn't Kurtley Beale.

What could be worse than what Kurtley did?

As shown by their text conversation, Beale then showed deep remorse, to the point that he was in tears. Patston then said she wouldn't tell McKenzie.

Now here, Webster has made something up that's not printed in News' texts. There's no mention of Beale in tears. Patston, yes.

The rest of the article is just the same unsubstantiated rumour and gossip that has been stinking up Fairfax all week, with some added reinvention of history thrown in. What's sad is that they continue to print things that have been denied or proven to be false.

What's really offensive though is their attempt to play down this horrible act of bullying, and to even excuse it on the basis of some greater conspiracy of ARU mismanagement.

Edit: TWAS beat me to it...........

As I said, his claims he's a poor man manager is something you'd have to survey players on, but again, Cheika has a different style that has clearly been pretty successful - more so than McKenzie's whichever way you cut it, so there's evidence he's managing things a little better than Link has to date.

That's not true.

It has been no more successful. They both won super rugby titles in their second season as coach.

The problem with Australian Rugby precisely IS that a minority of players have been getting away with shit like this that Beale has pulled.

How is dealing with that somehow making Beale a scapegoat?? What, a scapegoat for his own earlier actions??

Webster - noted author also of 'the three amigos are a problem' and 'rugby is back' , Tahdan et al have officially lost the plot.

We get it TahDan. You've been pushing the Beale side the whole way here.

His actions are indefensible and the only evidence of any wrongdoing is his.

Come on Gagger, Beale put 6 months of staying out of trouble together at the Waratahs. Clearly this is everybody else's fault!

Ewen McKenzie is the problem. What evidence suggests he as a coach is a problem? His most recent Australian history suggests otherwise. Strongly. He is the most successful active super rugby coach from Australia in fact.

I'm not going to bother with the Beale stuff, because to be frank I no longer care about the details. Beale will be gone and it's that simple.

The point the article was making, and which I agree with, is that there's been a conga line of guys like this out of Australian Rugby over the past decade, and to me that suggests something fundamentally wrong with the set-up.

You don't think McKenzie has any responsibility here? You wouldn't look at your MD's judgement if a perpetual shit generating incident like this occurred on his watch and with people he personally selected? Fine, but this whole thing is becoming a side show and we're papering over the cracks.

Link has been in charge for a year and it's been less than a rosy affair so far. Maybe you're right and he's just incredibly unlucky and it's really just all Beale, and things will be perfect once Beale is gone.

But I seriously doubt it.

If you think these problems have only been around for a year, you are extremely naive.

Disciplining Beale and showing all players what to expect if they fail to meet the standards required is a good step.

Waleed Aly put it nicely on Offsiders yesterday when he said that for the sake of the culture of rugby union in Australia, Beale needs to be dealt with harshly............. otherwise................

Has anyone really stopped to think how all the parties involved are handling the situation?
Considering last week was mental health week, what is the ARU's position & responsibility in regards to the mental health of the parties?
It has been reported that Mrs Patston had taken stress leave prior to leaving her position & I sincerely hope the ARU are still providing support.
But what about Mr Beale? I hope his mental welfare is being addressed by his employers too. There has been mention he's "a bit rattled", if it were me, I'd be more than rattled. He deserves to be punished but not ignored.
And what about Mr McKenzie? He is still turning up to work & doing his job, but surely the leaving of a valued staff member would affect him somehow.

That's actually wrong - Link had three seasons at the Tahs your forgetting, and whilst both spent time in Europe only Cheika was a success there. But this is kinda getting beside the point - I haven't actually seen this thread since yesterday, but it's clear both you and Slim are doing your level best to argue away any suggestion that things aren't going well.

Why, I honestly don't know, but you're both defending Link like he was family for some reason, and neither of you have been able to tell me why he doesn't bare some responsibility here when all this shit involves people he selected. Oh, and there's also the rather uncomfortable fact that the team has a win ratio of 52%.
