Melbourne Rebels 2024

This is to convince RA to give them the licence back?

To an extent yes. All they have done so far is propose how they will relocate the Rebels and prove they can come up with some cash to pay back debts. Those are the factors which the administrator cares about which is why they've pushed forward with the discussions.

They've yet to provide a detailed business plan around the long-term financial viability of the Rebels under the new group and essentially prove to RA that they won't have to come and bail them out again in 5 years. The feeling is that RA will likely be unsatisfied with the business plan, unless there is a guaranteed second wave of additional funding from the group available down the track.

It's obviously quite complex because the new group are also needing to navigate what is looking like an uncertain SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) future due to general attendance and ratings, not just Rebels related.

I wonder whether it gets to a point where it get's too expensive for RA to shut down the Rebels - ongoing legal costs (considering they have to prop up the Waratahs), support the women's game) etc.

The SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) format deal is in place to 2030, do RA say leave the Rebels (funded by the consortium) until that expires. Then see the lay of the land

So another 30 days till the next deadline? Wish RA would drop the axe already. If we give up the Rebels can we please get a NRC in return?

Its hard for anyone to guarantee funding given no-one knows how much money will be in the game post 2025 - that's not an issue unique to the Rebels. What happens to the Brumbies or Reds in the event that TV revenue falls off a cliff but they are still locked in to paying 95% of the salary cap under the CBA. Obviously Tahs are RA's house franchise so no issues there and the Force have Twiggy.

I think the only issue preventing RA putting us out of our misery is the legal action that follows if they do.

In some positive news the rebels shield kicks off today & the 16's has now grown to 8 schools & the creation of the 18's

I know the people on here from up nth this would make their skin crawl but down here its so good to see the PI community keep going from strength to strength.
