I'm not against a "Melbourne Pasifika" or however you want to call that. RA resources are stretched thin, Moana pasifika is a mix of Auckland B and NPC All stars, shifting that to a solo market with a strong pasifika core among local juniors, keeps a local development pathways for VIC women and juniors, alongside at least a half dozen professional rugby games in victoria in the lead up to BILs tour and back to back domestic world cups etc. As a 3-6 year commitment with broader reevaluation of super rugby in general.

A "Rebels Pasifika" is just about the stupidest thing you could come up with. I can't imagine what value the rebels brand brings to MP (Moana Pasifika) beyond a BILs game and 6-12 players, and both those things are over and done with within 12 months of the merger happening in the first place.

According to the Herald Sun, the 16-page document alleges that midway through last year, Rugby Australia had "demanded" the Rebels join forces with Moana and that the new entity be based out of Auckland. The document also alleges that a team based in either Japan, Hawaii or on the west coast of United States then be added to continue Super Rugby Pacific's 12-team footprint

Moana Pasifika delivery was butchered by NZRugby and those vested stakeholders, and the Rebels management/governance are currently a basket case. Forcing a merger or two dysfunctional teams as a joint venture wont solve the underlying issues, and shifting them to a new location altogether will only exacerbate it.

At least Japan is only geographically far ... and even that idea is not easy to achieve.

agree with everything bar the Timezone, it’s actually not that far infront on nz but a day behind.

It appears that PwC are not currently in the ATO good books.

Not sure if it will affect their intent in persuing thier recovery against the Rebels or not but who knows.

Problem is we are not dealing with some bloke who did blow every weekend & land a law degree after 4 yrs we are dealing with a KC who has made his whole career out of knowing every inch of the law & arguing about it.

The sooner Jacinta Allen sponsors us $1m & we get this merger through the better.

Another day another new low for rugby in this country

North’s a director facing a big share of a tax debt. He’ll be looking to rope in anyone he can to reduce that exposure and he has the skills to do it. His goal will be at a minimum a cents on the dollar deal via an ATO supported deed of company arrangement at least partially funded by RA.

The Vegas venture is heading for a slow moving train wreck for the NRL.

Stadium ticket sales currently at about 50%. it’s a 5 year deal to. What if first year is a fizzer and they don’t make any significant in roads? Each team is forking out about 400k to use travel/training facility week leading up to event.

rugby has a better approach to growing the game. That test match in San Diego between all blacks vs Fiji will have more reach because you are showcasing 2 of the top 8 rugby teams in the world where as NRL is sending 4 of the top 16 teams in Australia.

a Hawaiin based super rugby team that may play some games in California is a lot better strategy then the NRL season opener because it allows Americans to have their own team.
