They must be. The previous record of consecutive top picks for offensive players was 7.

I think it was a combination of a couple of things. A very good QB class after a pretty average one last year (with the exception of CJ Stroud) combined with next year expected to be a bad QB class. An exceptional number of good O Line players and 3 generational wide receivers.

Likewise some pretty average D Line talent.

The predictions weren't quite this extreme but most of them only had one defensive player going in the top 10 (to the Falcons who really needed an edge rusher and definitely had the most insane pick of the first round).

Penix will always be able to say he’s a top 10 pick. I find the QBs in this draft to be quite mercurial although I can’t claim to be an expert. I think Mahomes may be having an undue effect on team’s thinking. They are pretty much all fun to watch though.

Cornerbacks and sack specialists would have to be worth something if their direct opponents are worth those picks.

Penix is an insane pick. He's already old having done 5 years in college and the Falcons are committed to Cousins for three years having guaranteed him $100m. They could potentially look at moving on after two years.

If Penix isn't the starter for three years he'll be 27 before he becomes the starter!

Daniels is the same age as Penix.

I tend to think Penix is more ready to win now than Daniels. The ceiling for both is basically reached and it’s very strange by Atlanta after signing Cousins.

It’s not the greatest QB class. It’s just teams need them so they get hyped up. McCarthy will do nothing for the Vikings. 7,8 wins at most but I get teams want a win now guy as your best chance is to win in the rookie contract and then hold them.

This makes even less sense. Trade it for more if you really don’t know.

This GM is done.

Loved Phenix in college, playing on a dynamite Washington team. His age and college experience would suggest he is a win-now type of a guy, but his lefty throwing action is not NFL-ready. I might be the only person who believes Atlanta is a great spot for him; young team, building towards a bright future.

Added: Saw a lot of QBs taken because next year's class is a stinker for QBs, with no real frontrunners or X-factor players.

I don’t follow this stuff closely enough to know why next year is a stinker. 12 months is such a long time for teenagers who will grow so much both physically and mentally. Is that really enough of a justification for a feeding frenzy this year especially when several of the QBs have very extensive injury histories?

I think it's mostly because Caleb Williams is considered the best QB prospect in at least the last 4 years.

Jayden Daniels went number 2 and wasn't even on the radar as a potential first round pick a year ago so lots could change before the next draft.

Got to take the best available seems to be the sentiment. If a team intends to be a playoff side they most likely won't have a top 10 pick so they fall out of the QB draft market and then risk becoming a 9/8, 8,9 irrelevant team. Could be more valuable to draft your backup QB/future QB over a potential positional starter. No QB = No chance.

Hasn't been a good QB class since 2020 with Herbert, Burrow, Tua, Love & Hurts. Then its 2018 with Mayfield, Allen, Jackson.

Guys will pop up next year but in terms of a lock there isn't any must haves at this stage.
