QLD u/19 Squad 2012

Heard a Rumour that there bringing back the QLD u/19 team this year to play NSW u/19 once both of the respective competitions end. Heard its to be a 40 man QLD squad to be trimmed down.
Any thoughts on blokes to make this team?

Yes I agree, but if there mixing it with the best in Qld Rugby then they're obviously better than a lot of the other players eligible

Pretty hard to pick a team but I will give it a go.

Hooker and centres hardest to pick with some quality players missing out. Seems to be a shortage of second rowers as well.

You certainly did leave out some quality players mate. Tasi Tasi from sunny bank can play any of the loose forward positions, Matt Gordon , Souths probably the best Inside in the prem colts won't find a better straight, hard ball runner and has great skills, Feleti don't know his last name is a quality hooker, plays for Souths. This is just a few of probably another 20 that could be named. It certainly will be a hard team to pick as there is some quality players out there in the under 19 age group.

Bring back the Trans Tasman U19 competition. QLD won the last competition in 2007.

Very good idea. It was a really good competition between Qld, Wellington and Canterbury Under 19 sides.

QAS Rugby Program
The 2007 QAS U19 Squad began its preparations for the
Trans Tasman Tournament with a 42 player train-on squad
on the 2nd of July. The squad was reduced to 26 for the
trial game against the Queensland President’s XV on the
12th of September in which a solid victory was recorded.
The first part of the Trans Tasman Tournament saw the
QAS U19s host Wellington and Canterbury at Ballymore.
In a disappointing start to the tournament, the QAS U19s
struggled to cope with the physicality of Wellington and
ended up losing the first match. Three days later the
squad bounced back to defeat Canterbury in a highly
entertaining match. From this game, the squad gained
immense confidence and headed to New Zealand with
the aim of recapturing the Trans Tasman Trophy.
The third match which was played in Porirua saw Wellington
kick a penalty goal on fulltime to win 16-15. Having
scored three tries to one and dominating the match, the
QAS U19s learned a valuable lesson in the importance
of closing out and concentrating for the full 80 minutes.
In the final match, the QAS U19s defeated Canterbury in
Christchurch for the first time in six years, thus securing
the Trans Tasman Trophy for the first time since 2001.
The purpose of the QAS U19 program was to provide
our colts age players with the opportunity to develop and
play at an international standard. The QAS Squad of 2007
learnt many valuable lessons along the way, with the
greatest outcome being their willingness to improve. The
program proved yet again how valuable the pathway is in
providing a playing environment at the elite level.

Very happy for Matt Beeston, he was the year below me at school and I played with him a few times, always very underrated, he has been carving up in Premier Colts from all reports. Not saying that he'll make any of these squads, because he won't, but great to see players who weren't necessarily the rugby "stars" at highschool going well for their clubs.​

If mikaele is the big islander coming off the bench for easts press the last few weeks.......he looks like sitaleki timani 2.0. Also I think I may have seen him play colts his work rate needs to lift but he does make some good runs at u19 level but once someone cuts him he seems to shy. But then again I may be talking about a completely different player. Goodwork to beeston colts 1 or 2 player last year and seems to have worked his way up

17 Heavies selected for U-19 trial
17 Red Heavies have been selected to trial for the ARU National Academy U-19 Queensland side to take on New South Wales at Ballymore on Saturday October 6th.
Training will begin on Wednesday September 12 before the team is selected on Thursday September 27.
University of Queensland players selected:
Front-row: Ethan Brown, Campbell Wakely, Curtis Browning, Elijah Palupe, Kieran Fitzgibbon.
Locks: Terrin Walls, Sam Reiser.
Back-row: Dan Lane, Jay Adkins, Conor Mitchell, Curtis Browning, Tom Vaessen.

Interestingly, Curtis Browning is identified as both Front row and back row ; clearly the ARU still have views of him as a Front row prospect - a surprise in my opinion given the way he has been playing as a 6 and 8 for Uni in Prem Grade this year

One player who i think doesnt really get enough raps, is the norths hooker. he was injured during the last few weeks but his early season form was phenomenal. not the most explosive but does all the fundamentals right, Ritchie is his name I think

Nuku Swerling? Oh please. Qld rugby must be in trouble if he is in the mix. Outplayed deluxe and never considered for Qld schools last year, minimal impact for GC this year. Mind you, GC has done little too.

I hope the concept of U19 games is revived. Australian rugby needs something in between club and super rugby. Hopefully this is the start.
