Let them be the bye in colts 1's and give them a chance to build. If the Emus are in the colts 2's finals for the next few years,it's got to easier recruiting, than when they are being flogged by 100+ scores. And as a side issue, anyone who goes out there and doesn't clear their bench early,so they maximise the score is a fucking tool as well.
I agree entirely with both points.
I have argued before that Penrith should not contest 1st Grade (yet). Really, what is the point of these floggings year after year?
I urge the Penrith managers to contact the powers that be this week to make just such an arrangement.
And yes, what about the F(*^&ing Tool mentality that goes out to put Cricket scores on? Why would a club with numbers to burn not arrange things so that they all got a game?
I once coached a team where we struggled to get 12 on the paddock and so played against a team that had 18+ players. They would not consider having some of theirs play for us - pride in the jumper given as the reason. This was under 16's. So, with no reserves and u14's playing for us, we started to get rolled. The only thing we did have was a powerful scrum. The appalling prick of a coach for the other side called ucontested scrums. His team thought they had a hilarious day. My guys were shattered and we never played again that season. I get it.
In the scale of morality, F(*&^ing arrogance is at least in the same ball park as thuggery. And I do not condone either one.

PS on the Penrith behaviour. Maybe the other Colts Teams can get some changes in place by telling SRU they will boycott if nothing changes. One of the Corp kids is out for 6 weeks after a late shot put on him while playing Penrith.

Any form of thuggery needs to be wiped out. One of the kids from Norths is out for the seasons, thanks to an unprovoked punch at a trial game! Red card issued and suspended for 16 weeks, reduced to 11. The injured player out for season, and a lot of medical costs. Absolutely disgusting. The clubs where theses players are from, need to make a huge stand in not tolerating any form of behaviour which is intentional thuggery.

^^^^ For clarity, did the lad who was carded and suspended for 11 weeks for the incident in the Norths trial come from Penrith?

Thanks @Rugby Mum. It is important for parties to know that acts of thuggery are not isolated to players/clubs from west of the M7 Motorway.

Edit: Incident from a few pages back.
Watched easts v norths trial. Good first hitout, scrappy games as expected in hot conditions. Saw one of the worst coward punches from easts hooker, red card, deserves a long spell on the sideline.

Yet again, we are not worthy of your dedication to producing such detailed analysis HJ. These stats are thought provoking but limited in a single dimension - we can not determine which red cards were for "double yellow" and which for foul play. Similarly, we can't determine which yellow cards were for technical offences and which for foul play. Unfortunately that level of detail is probably not available to us but I'd have thought that the competition manager would be able to produce such an analysis relatively easily. Whether they would ever publish the results is debateable.

While it is fairly one dimensional, the analysis from last year shows that discipline (technical (cynical) offences and foul play) is an issue for nearly all clubs to address and not just our favourite love to hate club. Something about glass houses. 34 Yellow cards represents 340 minutes of playing with less than a full complement of players. In First Grade Colts this represents 4 1/4 games of playing with 14 players.

Anyhoo life goes on and it looks like the postponed Rats v Wicks game is on today with a slightly modified Wicks starting list. From their web site:

Not sure about The Corporation vs Highlanders, but have heard unconfirmed whispers of a midweek night catch up game.

I watched all 3 Colts games last Saturday, and my son played in the engine room for S.D 1st. I wouldn't like us to give up on Penrith, the area is too important to the growth and future of rugby in Australia. Here are some of my observations:
  1. The 3rd and 2nd were not a prelude to what happened in the 1st. There was a little argy/bargy but nothing out of the ordinary. Penrith 3rds were unlucky not to win and so might have had a bit more of a motive to go off.
  2. The Penrith 1st know how to play rugby individually but are way, way too overweight and unfit (I'm concerned for the health of many).
  3. In line with point 2 they lack the team discipline to execute in attack and defence. Plus the individual self discipline as stated above.
  4. Mostly it was handbags at 10 paces BUT there was a couple of Penrith players who clearly knew how to throw a punch, I was very worried about them as one of them repeatedly ran 50m to join in (why on earth wasn't he red carded), it will show up on the video.

I think the Penrith colts could be turned into something competitive (maybe mid competition level) if someone could get hold of them, motivate them the right way, and get some commitment from them. I'd like to see the SRU and NSWRU step in here and put in a "rugby coaching receiver" (sorry Penrith Colts 1st coach you've lost you're rights to coach this team).
As far as my son is concerned I've seen a lot of "hand bags at 10 paces" and there usually isn't much in it. HOWEVER the time I've seen real damage done was when someone knew what they were doing and got a number of good boxing shots in, that needs to be stamped out ruthlessly.

The SRU and NSWRU is doing little to nothing to grow the game in the non traditional areas, this could be a way to show some commitment to the game.

If you are the coach of Penrith whose teams are thrashed by cricket scores playing teams that are wealthier and are spiked with state schoolboys, what tactics do you advise. That is right play in the opponent's face. To respond to this crisis by demoting Penrith is to deny that club a fair go and be against the bests interests of rugby. Our moderator calls looking to even clubs up socialism even though it's the capitalist USA nba,NFL, NHL etc that have a draft system that works. State , Aussie schoolboy reps should be subject to a draft. These are the players that have skills and ambition so playing out of district should not bother them. When they play grade or above it will be the rule rather than the exception.

I look forward to hearing how the mechanics of the Colts Rugby draft will work. Do players that miss out on being selected for State or Aussie Schoolboys not have skills or ambition?

Which clubs are the "Wealthier: clubs that are "spiked with state schoolboys" producing cricket scores?
Where does a cricket score start - perhaps at 70+ points to not many.

In 2014 Gordon, Warringah, Eastern Suburbs, West Harbour, Parramatta, Eastwood all achieved >70 points to not much in their games against Penrith. Not many of those teams would be considered to be spiked with State Schoolboys or particularly "wealthy".

The 2015 Manly Colts 1 Team that put 128 points on Penrith in round 2 seems to contain precisely zero State or Aussie Schoolboys from 2014 or 2013, and if my assessment is wrong then they are hardly spiked with them. I do note that one lad in the Manly squad did play for NSW Schools in the National Under 16 tournament in 2012. Is he their magic weapon? Funny magic weapon to keep hidden away in Colts 3 and Colts 2 for all but one round last year.

Rats v Wicks Results from postponed game:
Round 3 Tips
<snip>
Warringah v Randwick - Wicks have come out of the blocks like a Scotsman at a free whiskey tasting and will not be troubled by the Rats. With their U20 rockstars back to bolster an impressive lineup, the busiest chap on the field will be the Kicking Tee Runner. Wicks by 60.
<snip>
Don't get it right too often but nailed this one.

Something something ... ... ... monkeys ... ... ... something ... .... ... typewriter ... .... .... something infinite time.... .... ... something something ... ... ...William Shakespeare.

Good to see that there wasn't a forfeit in the Colts 3 match like previous rounds. Hang in there Rats.

What tactics do you advise?
Turn up to training and play to the best of your ability cleanly and fairly.
Do not take shortcuts.
Get fit.
Encourage your mates to get off the lounge and come and train with you.
Get fitter.
Play with integrity.
Invite your family to come watch you play.
Invite your girlfriend or boyfriends family to come watch you play.
Try to get just one more mate to play.
Be the fittest you can get.
Study something completely away from the game to give you a third space to go to.
Enjoy the game.

Start on these and the thrashings will stop
