Few random thoughts on the match.

Team last night started really well. Showed lots of skill and speed and some very good structures.

The game was always going to be an easy and big win to AUS, the first 40 points went on so quickly, I thought we would easily pass 100.

To their credit Tonga, put some phases together for period late in the first half and put a tempory brake on the scoring.

And they scored a try after pressuring the Aus line.

But Aus did resume their domination and went on to score 15 trys to 1.

Good mix of Forward tries and some great slick moves from the backs.

Hosea was outstanding and MOM IMO.

Hosea and Hockings will be a strong combination in the Locks. Hockings a very good line out specialist.

McTaggart was a standout in the backs.

Thought Harrison made the most of his late call up at 10. He has a nice pass and does organise the backs we'll. (not sure what happened to Kunzel who was originally named)

Thought the front rows in both games deserved more acclamation. Strong in all facets
While Hosea looked good with the ball there are still a number of areas to improve with tackle and cleanout accuracy.
Harrison was good in patches ,if he kicks the ball away like he did on tuesday the all blacks will eat us alive...just think back to T.GMilner last year and the same scenario with aus schools.
All in all a terrific performance on both nights great effort by the young men and coaching staff.
The big question is will they fly Goddard back for the game...would be hard to resist with the leading halfback..

I've published a quick blog post on the front page, using 'The Honey Badgers' quick review

I won't be at the Saturday games, so if anyone would like to contribute a review, please let me know, and I can put it together with some photos from the Round 1&2 games

I didn't see the whole game but was pretty impressed with a lot of our players.

The continuity and passing between both forwards and backs was very good and looked far better than last year's team at the JWC.

Harrison looked really good in general play at 10 and has a thumping boot. His goal kicking was poor though so if he's the starting 10 at the tournament we need to find a better kicker. Goal kicking was crucial last year.

Latu at 13 was really impressive and McTaggart finished well.

The whole forward pack were pretty good with Hosea having a standout game.
It is very interesting that
1. Harrison and McTaggert were standouts in this Tongan match
2. Both are from NSW and were originally left out of the 32 man squad only to be brought in when Super Rugby took Reds boys away
3. Six Super rugby players played in the Aus 20 s team v Tonga and while they played well they were far from standouts which would be expected for boys who have played at that level. Hosea probably the exception
4.How many other NSW boys have been left out due to the “selection process” and given the opportunity would also have been standouts.
They have been mentioned before
Bo Abra prop
Darcy Breen Prop
Dan Matthews Prop
Nick Brown Back Row
Nick Wilkinson Fly Half
Bailey Kuenzle Fly Half
Jordan Morris centre
Jackson Mohi Wing
Luke Osborne Fullback
Yirribi Jaffer-Williams Wing
These boys are selection victims due to the selectors not knowing enough about how boys out of Qld play. I am sure there are ACT boys and Vic boys that deserved a shot also.

Kuenzle was picked at 10 for yesterday’s game but withdrew due to sickness.
I don't think he has had any game time at all. Hopefully if fit he gets a spot on the bench for Saturdays game. But I think they will start Creighton. Be nice to see Bailey get 20 or 30 mins.

But being NZ they may not want to change things too much.

HB, wouldn't the side for the Fiji game have been first choice rather than the one against Tonga? In that case, I'd expect a lot of change from this most recent side.

The Queensland front row were great.

Hunt and Latu were good in the centres, particularly Latu who was one of the best on the field.

Most of these players have had the opportunity to be involved in a camp before this squad was selected so it is not like they haven't been looked at.

From what I have seen it's pretty hard to look at the players selected and suggest that some shouldn't be there.

Too a point, I think you are right.

But there definitely will be some players from Tuesdays team will be first selected for Saturday. And some will make the bench. Tuesdays team was by no means a complete B side,

Will depend a bit on fitness and injury, who gets selected.

But I would expect a good number from this team to be in the match day 23 on Saturday.

Speaking of which,

Anyone know the whereabouts of Sunia Finefeuiaki and Hunter Paisami from 2016 schools.?

Thought Sunia was playing for Southern districts, and Hunter played for Tonga last year in Oceania. Where are they now.?

Would have thought Sunia would have still been on a radar.

Hunter P is contracted at the Rebels, playing club rugby in Melbourne. Didn't make the Oz 20's cut this year.

You would think he would play for Tonga again.

There is some serious talent around in the Mid field.

Think the JW's will be a red hot chance to get a win over the Baby Blacks.

Gee that's some stiff competition, he was playing NRC last year when a lot of the other u20s were still playing Colts. Can't say the selectors have got it wrong though as Latu at 13 has been excellent.
