Wallabies 2023

Would we say White is a better goal kicker than Gordon? Or white only good for long distance

I am surprised most pundits seem to have ditched white from starting side very quickly. Sure Tate has looked ok but I still think there is a chance Eddie will flip back to White for World Cup. Just seems to control games better, more leadership, better general kicking and goal kicking could be a help as well

Well a few coaches have thought he wasn’t worth being in their team? Maybe there is something in that? As if Jones wouldn’t have him in the squad if he thought he would help win the Cup.
Quade is too progressive and forward-thinking for his liking, conservative types like Eddie & Robbie (both played their rugga in the amateur 80's) are too ingrained in their outdated methods and want to run a tight operation and won't tolerate radical dissenters.

Easy to get conned into thinking these long distance specialists are good goal kickers because generally they only take attempts they think they can make. And they’re all penalties whilst yes from long, generally not much off centre.

According to Christy, Pone to miss Georgia (one week in to a 3-4 week injury) but should be good for Fiji & Slipper in a moon boot only preventative at this stage and neither are serious

What leadership does Quade actually provide? IG motivational posts?

He burnt all his goodwill with me after turning down the Aus A role and ignoring Eddie phone calls.

Sure he would have his friends in the team but some of his Aus A teammates that missed out must be looking at him and saying “what a Prima Donna”
He provides a hell of a lot if you listen to those who have played, trained and even coached with him. I'll take their words over some random punters on a rugby forum.

This is all heresy at the moment regarding his non involvement with Aus A. From what we know he may have been told he wasn't needed for Aus A. Only he and Eddie know. All we know is a line that Eddie dropped at a press conference saying he hadn't answered his call after finding out in the media he had not been selected for the RWC. Sounds pretty immature from that one line for sure however who knows what happened before that or since that. It's also pretty likely his employer in Japan didn't want him playing for Aus A after losing him for the majority of '23 to an injury suffered playing intls last year. My point is who actually knows.

For this world cup give me him over Donaldson any day of the week. I honestly can't understand anyone who thinks Donaldson is the right selection for a World Cup in a matter of weeks over QC (Quade Cooper). Donaldson currently provides nothing over QC (Quade Cooper) which leads me to think it's a personal/personality issue between Eddie and him. Something must be going on in the background and we don't know who is at "fault".

We will probably find out in a podcast or a book in coming years what the story actually is.

And I am not a long term QC (Quade Cooper) fan at all. Quite the opposite actually. Only after the past couple of years have I seen any value of him for the Wallabies.

He provides direction and nous.

We have no idea of the behind the scenes happenings. Maybe Eddie was telling him ' you're the man' right up until day dot..coming across as a betrayal and lies by the HC. Wouldn't be out of character. Would I like to see him in Aus A? Yes. Is this relevant to my point about I think Eddie will regret a couple of squad selection choices? No.

Foketi was poor on the weekend. I was really impressed with him last year but he looked really out of sorts v France the other day.

Looked like Paisami had a decent game for A?

I think the date has passed for any squad changes though.
Paisami was playing against Portugal, Foketi was playing against France.

I agree it wasn't Foketi's best game and he did look a little lost but that's probably a function of not getting any game time since Super Rugby and having to learn Eddie's game plan with a bunch of players he's never played with before. He had a pretty good season with the Tahs - there is a discussion going on in the game thread about small sample sizes, this would fall into that category.

He mainly looked lost when he was, on multiple occasions, beaten whilst defending as the last man in the line.

Commentators made comments about how the last man seemingly didn't even realise they were the last man as the wings had dropped back and communication hadn't come from the back or from the last man to the inside. Believe they were referring to him.
