Wallabies 2026

None of those five are particularly convincing save for Brial.
It's more about the potential gaps then anything - other positions (aside form the ones Christy listed) are pretty well covered by already capped players. There's plenty of returning pros and guys on a handful of caps who are going to be pushing for their shot too - Fainga'a, Phillip, Swain, Petaia, etc.

But it's also all speculation at this point - one big season next year in super can easily rocket someone into contention, and one bad injury can flip the whole script.

Yeah, if Debreczeni is going to get a shot it has to be pretty much immediately, but I don't think there's much benefit to us adding another debutante 10 to the mix, at least not one over 30. Lomax seems like a bit of stretch while he's still unsigned too.

The alternatives I think might make that next 5 are Mac Grealy, David Feliuai (but if he does it would be instead of Pakeho), and one of Joe Brial, Angus Scott-Young, and Tuaiana Tualima. As strong as our back row has been, the departure of Liam Wright and limited availability of Hooper and Gleeson might open a door for one of those guys under a new coach next year. Back row depends a bit on how Cale comes back from injury and what Kiss wants to do with the locks though.

Teddy Wilson is probably the other outside chance, but he might need Jake Gordon (and probably another 9) to cop an injury for that to happen in the next 5.

Brial is a pretty good shout. He’ll know Kiss’ style. Has that mongrel in him that should help him in test footy. I think Ieli would be the other one they would be keen to get in before the World Cup. He appears to be able to handle the heat at scrum time.
I think HMP is more likely than Jake Deb imo.
