The original point was that Palu, when match fit (he's only missed the 1 game recently) is an 80 minute player. Deans will be playing him 80 mins in the 1st Test so this talk of him coming off after 50 mins is wrong. Unless he is still injured and hasn't been training.

When people mention him coming off after 50-60 mins, it's not to do with his match fitness but this notion he's unfit and lazy and can only last 60 mins. That's the main part I was rubbishing because it's not true. Sorry if that was misunderstood.

Did you ignore what I wrote?

It's so clear:

--Injured--
1st game back: 60 mins
2nd game back: 60 mins
3rd game back: 80 mins
--Injured--
1st game back: 45 mins
2nd game back: 60 mins
3rd game back: 80 mins
4th game back: 80 mins
5th game back: 80 mins

What does that tell you? You don't have to be a genius to analyse that.

That's how you manage players at international level.
Half of these he's an 80 minute player.
Half of these he's not.
How anyone claims to be "right" baffles me.
For fuck's sake.

He's 2/2 playing flyhalf. That's above average. Beat Wales in Cardiff which isn't easy.

One against a woeful Baabaas.
Once against a Welsh side who were also weighed down with injuries, and were then our bunnies effectively. JOC (James O'Connor) didn't exactly orchestrate that Welsh win, either. That was at the end of a long, long season for both teams, particularly the Welsh.

Not exactly proving he's an international level flyhalf after a mere two games there.

At the moment I only see one 10 in Aus rugby that isn't a compromise in some way, and that is Matt To'omua, and as he has no international experience.

So he is a compromise as well o_O

so we have

one option who isn't a great defender at all, but wonderful attacking skills, but can make a lot of errors and stated he doesn't want to play the coaches way

an inexperienced 10, who will tackle, run, but can be a bit selfish

a guy with drinking problems, hasn't played much and who knows where his head is

and a young guy in his first "fit" year with good/great all-round skills

welcome to Deans world

I reiterate FP's views. To'omua has been my preferred 10 all year at Super Rugby level and I haven't seen anything to change it, but Lions would be a big ask. Fair chance he'd do ok but I'd hate to see his career burned by asking him too early. I see him on the EOYT and getting more time next year.

The other proper 10 has incredible skills and vision no other player on the planet has and we need him in our squad, but I wouldn't start him.

If we start with JOC (James O'Connor) at 10 and have KB (Kurtley Beale) at 15 with Barnes on the bench there is no room for another 10 in the 22. Our back reserves will be
Halfback
Centre
Barnes
If Lilo is also in the starting side we are top heavy with inside backs.
There does not seem any reason to include To'omua..........or for Deans to now reconsider Cooper for that matter.
Problem is our 10,15 and bench option will be utility players. Good ones but not specialists in their Wallaby chosen positions.

With Barnes & Phipps (my assumption) on the bench we need a 13/wing option, I expect that to be either McCabe or Horne. Both can play 12/13/14 and their skillset is pretty interchangeable

Having MacCabe or Horne on the wing is a scary prospect, no doubt they would just get burned on the outside, i dont think they should be an option for wing and i doubt even 13, Coops has a knack for not getting injured and actually being good...

A lot of Deans problems have been created by Deans himself.

sure, but none have been by Deans alone.

He has players who have been injured and haven't got the time on the field he would have wanted, off the rails and not prepared to play the way he wants

To be successful in this life you can not blame circumstance, you take responsibility for you mistakes and use all available resources to make things work the best possible.

Deans has played the blame and excuse game through his tenure and failed to extract the best (consistently) out of many of his players.

Tuesday I believe.

It's kind of funny that the Reds and Brumbies both have been neglected selection wise going into the Lions tour but both teams are looking to play finals footy. Now with Super Rugby wrapping up for a few weeks, both teams will have time to field a fresh and fit team come the end of the season, and not having to worry about too many injuries or burnout because of Test commitments.

Shockingly, or rather not so, I am more looking forward to the Reds beating the Lions tonight, than the Wallabies. Oh well, sportsz lol.

Backs: McCabe, Beale, Burgess
Pigs: Hanson, Ryan, MMM/Samo (is it really as stupid as it sounds? Lock/8 cover with test experience who Deans has turned to in the past. You heard it here first.)

It's hard to tell if Deans has already chosen his final 6 or not. I wouldn't be surprised if he's interested to see how Samo goes, but he'd have to play pretty well to get chosen.

With Timani and Pyle both unavailable, the big question is who is the fourth lock.. Surely MMM has to be the man.
