They are playing 5 games on this tour and the Italy game was a deliberate capitulation. They still should have won, but they trotted out a C level lineup to preserve the better players. They need the game for $$ so they basically trotted out Australia A. It is what it is, but the ultimate goal is the RWC and that game doesn't impact that IMO.

They already have too many injuries so piling on more game time wasn't the smart move IMO.
The unforgivable Rennie error was Italy. That was a must win game. The largest Rennie Coaching responsibility is the discipline. The Rennie culture problem is inculcating the honourable loss - not by his words, but by the team (coach and players) actions.

It is dumb to consider replacing Rennie - he is achieving things with this team albeit the above issues. That said, a coaching/selection overview is well due. Similar Rugby Australia need to have their skates on for re-considerations after the RWC.

I graciously accept your support in this matter.

It is not the slightest harsh on Porecki. That quantity of knock rolls with the Ref being utterly up front and obvious - it just isn't acceptable. If Porecki comes off from this game anything other than utterly disgraced in his performance, then he really should not be invited back.

Personally I think he will be more than embarrassed and will take responsibility. I'm beginning to think though, that learning starts with Rennie and who knows whether the issue of discipline is actually sinking in? I just doubt it. Words words words, penalties penalties penalties. In action this team as coached and put on the field is utterly brainless.

Porecki looked totally disoriented and concussed well before he came off. Did anyone see him hit his head and what time? He might have been playing on Zombie mode, which explains his uncharacteristic play.

It would be the least Rugby Australia thing to do. Actually holding someone to account for their fuckery? unheard of.
Can you outline the fuckery that warrants being fired? Genuinely curious. We've lost a bunch of tight games, won a bunch of tight games.

E.g. this year we've won two games by fewer than ten points (+2 vs England, +8 vs South Africa), and lost 6 by four points or fewer (-4 vs England, -2 vs NZ, -3 vs Ireland, -1 vs France, Scotland, Italy). Flip a coin on five of those games.

We are playing a lot of games, back to back after a reasonably long season. I'm not sure if the rationale is money or a need for more games at this level, ether way that is the situation.

He had to rest players. He will need to in the RWC next year also. He also needed to allow some other players a chance to show their worth at this level. He had a couple of injuries reported (and no doubt some not) also to contend with. If he could go back would he do things differently, possibly, but I'm doubtful that at this level that ill considered decisions are being made.

We can armchair critique all we want, but the simple truth is we are not privy to all the information - status of players, discussions and management of players, planning around an array of needs and goals... etc...

It's not about the results for me, it's the discipline stuff. He's causing more damage; referees no doubt have a preconceived idea about Australia going into matches now and you can’t blame them. That's directly on the coach.

That being said MacKeller doesn’t deserve to progress thru to the Head Coach either.
Laurie Fisher for some unknown reason has had little impact on the breakdown.

Timing and circumstance also should not reward them.

Aren't some of these areas where we are having major issues, like the breakdown and forward collision the specialties of McKellar and Fisher that they are there to coach?

Hey Tex. Mate, it's not a coin toss. It's the result when the final whistle blows. Those were 5 losses. "We're better than that!" Nope. We are exactly that good. And exactly no better.

I'm with you on not removing Rennie. But it doesn't mean that actions shouldn't be underway.

yup - maybe Lawrie needs to yell some more.

“It’s been very much my style of coaching, and I’ve got a great belief that consistency of performance comes from basics – your carry, your groundwork, your clean-out, your tackle quality, your catch-pass ability,” he said.

“If you do those things well, you’re going to be consistent.

“Then you’re going to have moments of execution that are going to be fantastic.

“But the key to consistency is doing the simple things, the basics of the game, well.

“That takes time across five Super Rugby sides to build a culture of that. We’ve hammered that hard at the Brumbies for many years.

“The Brumbies are built on basics. We are f--king built on basics. That’s us, we do that well.

“I have a belief that with 10 minutes to go in any game of rugby, if you’ve executed the basics really well, you’re a chance of winning.”

Sufficiently concussed to not understand that he had a bloke in a head lock, or sufficiently concussed that he didn't know it was his third time? (Fourth time?)

I anticipate Porecki taking on the chin and looking to do better. He's still my prefered Hooker but I'm not letting him off 8 points through stupidity.

Odd that Porecki is coping it but Gordon seems to get off Scott free?

Two tries last weekend, gave away the in the air penalty to give the Irish the ball leading up to their try and then was the player pinged for the nail in the coffin for the Wallabies.

Looking forward to seeing him start next weekend!

Calling him a dumb player for one transgression? He made a mistake. Most of the team has at one time or another. Unfortunately for him it had a very high cost.

I'd have to go back and look more closely at his overall performance, but in his handful or so of International games he's been pretty decent at the lineout, his scrum work has been good and his work around the park has been reasonable. He has had good link play at times. Is he a Malcom Marx, well no. But compared to some of the incosistency we've had in this position he's definitely grown into the role.

He'll know he made a mistake. If he keeps making similar then you have cause to be critical.

Ireland got lucky. Against a team who had 13 players at one point on the field and they held them out.

The games cooked though and I don't know the answer. How do the Wallabies get a yellow for a soft neck roll yet Ireland go flying off feet into a breakdown shouldering Hooper in the head and the tmo doesnt even check it. I'm.notvdaying the Wallabies shouldn't have been carded but the TMO gets involved for technical penaltiea where no one is hurt but not for serious stuff. Hooper should have stayed down or sold it like furlong sold that seatbelt tackle. The TMO seemed to get involved way to much and unfortunetly it was mainly for things against Australia.

Ireland pass the ball into a Wallabies palyer at the ruck on purpose and win a penalty. White does it and okeef says no you did it on purpose? Inconsistent. I guess, next year, hopfully the Wallabies get some luck and those important moments go their way.

Bundis try. He got the ball down on his 4th attempt. Ball was held up and bundi kept placing the ball back and forwards to get it down. If the tmo had a look at it, it would have been overturned.

Australia playing a scrum half on the wing. Missing at least half the team through injury but their defence was great tonight. As good as Ireland's.
Pretty happy for Australia in this game. With so many players injured and out plus many injuries during the game they hung in ther and pushed Ireland to the end.

I think part of Rennies problem is that he can't just sack players for ill-discipline, he's got nobody obvious to take their place. Apart from threats he has nothing to offer. I would drop him in a heartbeat if we were in this situation with a normal attrition rate but we ain't. I am not sure who would want to take over apart from McKellar.
Brainless team who could have beaten France and Ireland with better discipline and decision making. Still, it doesn't make them smart it just shows some potential IF...the perennial IF.
