I believe on closer questioning, the taxi driver admitted he couldn't tell the difference between Aussi & Kiwi accents, but did observe that the passengers were dressed in all black;)

From your reasoning if an Australian player plays in Japan for two years he should then be considered Japanese and not an Australian???
The whole point is that these boys grew up in Qld and were constantly seen by this Qld coach and selector. That is why they would be favoured - because the coaches know how they play from seeing them over many years. Impossible not to form strong attachments when you coach and mentor boys through their young careers. I'm sure also if this particular coach and selector were from NSW we would see a different line up purely because they would know how good the NSW players are and how they play.
As an aside, why wasn't Perese also on the plane to France. Injured??? Surely we could use a centre of his caliber over the five eighth and winger we currently have in there. Both good players but we have too many playing out of position. Inside and outside are specialist positions and Perese, Wilkinson, Morris or Lough should have been there to stop the big NZ centres.

No, my logic is that players are being selected on recent form, not how they played as schoolboys. The form of Tafa playing in Sydney, Tupou in Melbourne etc. is relevant, not what they were like as kids playing schoolboy rugby in Brisbane.

Perese is 21. He's too old.

Your logic falls apart in so many places. One of your criticisms is that the Reds are a bad team and that there should be more NSW players picked instead because the Waratahs are stronger. Where are the under 20 players in the Waratahs? There are exactly zero of them playing Super Rugby.

You talk about what happened at schoolboy level a couple of years ago but then ignore the fact that the Qld under 20s dominated last year and involved a fair few of these players.

The reality is that under 20 selections will never be perfect. It is run on the smell of an oily rag and the money that goes into it is spent on preparing the players and going to the tournament.

Hopefully that improves next year with the NRC under 19s which will provide more games that can be viewed with an eye of selecting a squad.

What nonsense

There's an article on Rugby.com.au specifically about Goddard having to be pulled from the u20s to cover the loss of Genia for the Rebels tour of South Africa.

"The challenge we have is we want him to play for Australia, because he's got the opportunity to play with the U20s.
“That's something we’ve got to wrestle between is giving the players who've been selected for the Australia 20s the right to play there and also if we need them for Rebels
“There's a bit of a balancing act there (but) if Will is ruled out, we will take Harrison with us.”

Hence Goddard been named on the Rebels bench the past month, including the Blues game which overlapped with the u20s tournament in France.

As to why he probably hasn't been called up to the squad like the Stewarts, Petaia's etc is that we already have 2 quality 9s in the squad.

Give up Joe James there’s no point arguing with ignorance- once again NZ are showing what a National team looks like with the best picked from around the whole country - not just one province. Arguing with Qlders is like arguing with my wife. No matter how right you are you’ll never be right.

Players have to analyse why they're making the decisions they make.

Still, some positives - particularly the pack and the breakdown work was solid.

Commentary we were getting said a BP would get them a SF, if that's correct then it was a really, really bad call although with other games being played at the same time maybe the guys on field & potentially those in the stands weren't aware of that (or maybe the comms were flat out wrong).

At 17-5 midway through the first half I was expecting a bloodbath so credit to your lads for not letting that happen.
