Congrats to Barker. 2018 Henry Plume winners!

Thanks WLF. The Reds were very dominant today. Up against one of the smallest Knox XV that I can remember. I think there is a good number of year 11 kids in that side so their is hope for the future.

Any result from Aloys v Brook?

Haven't heard Aloys V Cranbrook.

Didn't Knox have their 2 big second rowers playing today?

Anyway I think the comp was won last week!

Agreed. The Knox pack looked small. There was a big 2nd rower in Knox 2nds but he did not play a full game.

Cranbrook beat Aloys 28-24 pretty tight game and not a lot in it but a great atmosphere for many of the Cranners boys last game at Horden with about a 400 strong crowd

I’m calling Cranbrook to be CAS champions 2019 great team with majority of players returning that are only going to get better
Scotsman, I think Cranbrook will be in the mix next year, depending on how the current boys gel with the 16s moving up (who are not particularly strong). But don't take too much from today as Aloys fielded a decimated pack, with Spalding F, Brennan, Perego, Price all gone with season ending injuries. Plus Branigan in the backs, who provides the team with a lot of thrust.
It was clear that several others took injuries into the game.
But credit to Cranbrook in effectively shutting down the Aloys play makers through their rush defence. Vicars was particular good.

Very true Carl,
The set piece was a massive weakness for aloys yesterday showing how much they missed F Spalding and without Perego they weren't as effective slowing down Brooks rucks or getting any turnovers. In saying that Ryan was immense, on an absolute other level than any other player on the field. But I do still think Cranbrook will be very strong next year, A strong mobile pack with very fast backs and a knowledge of how to win games with confidence can be very handy for a smart team.

Time for an anti-soccer rant. This year Waverley allowed the firsts soccer to play on QP1. I can probably accept that they need their day in the sun as well so they should be allowed on the hallowed turf. What I find difficult to accept is the fact that one soccer game requires two rugby games to be shifted to accommodate them. And because the game doesn't actually take two hours there appears to be long periods of time when everyone sits around while the soccer players warm up and faff around while nothing is happening on the oval. the rugby buildup is stifled and what's worse the 5ths and lower 16s teams (who would have played on No 1) run around on some lower QP dustbowl. Either soccer plays for an hour and only one rugby game needs to be shifted or they find somewhere to play like Waverley Oval/Park where there are dedicated facilities (or they go back to QP2 as it used to be). It is not doing much for the game day vibe at QP let me tell you.

Brumbiejack, I absolutely agree. I actually think soccer is better than a lot of other soft options , at least it is a team game ... so lot to be gained for participants. However feels like they are hijacking rugby’s spectators and I’d rather watch the 8ths that the soccer .. but that’s just me

The only thing that amuses me is when visiting teams are confused by soccer lines and score on the wrong line

Now that 2018 is over Rod and WLF one is left with that feeling of "now what." I think 2018 was about as good as it gets from Barkers perspective as much as 2017 was for Waverley. I guess another cyclical re build takes place now.

Yes Hasbeen,

Another year done, but don't turn too quickly to 2019, savior the moment-until next year, as you know it's dame hard to win and no-one wins every year, which is a good thing.

I am lucky,in my mind, as we turn to cricket, not a basketball fan. Just ask Axel.

Dwelling on the comp this year, I am not one for the big blow out scores and Saturdays game could not have been enjoyable for the Knox kids. I think your idea of a divisional comp/plate/cup type thing across the associations as you have mentioned elsewhere has significant merit to achieve more competitive games which are more enjoyable for the kids and for the spectators. A lower grade tight contest is more enjoyable than a 1st XV blowout. Who wants that really...and maybe it could result in less tribalism tween the associations.

Joeys' whacking of Scots on the weekend means (as far as I can tell) that they are likely to be at least joint GPS premiers. Which prompts me to ask: when did two Associated Schools last defeat the GPS premiers in the same season? I'm not sure that it has ever happened before.

I think it is premature to expect that Joeys will beat Riverview. Riverview have had a hot & cold year. But on the flip side they have beaten the two top CAS schools this year, playing away, Waverly at Death Valley and Barker at Hornsby.

Sure they have had some pretty average games as well but this tells me that Joeys are no shoe in.

The GPS season has been close, highlighted by Newington who prior to this weekends win over Kings had yet to win a game.

With 5 of the six GPS schools being strong this year it has made for a intriguing season and the final round will be a cracker.

The catholics facing off with Joeys v View while the Prebeterian v Anglicans go to war in Scots v Kings.

It will be ok next year Hasbeen. Granted not as good as this year, but that was arguably the best team in the state. 4 regular starters and 3 frequent first teamers is an ok starting point for next years team though. The 16As were also premiers, and the 2017 16As finished a close second, so it's not all gloom and doom and should be a very close comp next year.
