It was getting dark so the footage is grainy and not particularly high def, so the culprit is not really identifiable. However, it serves to show the doubters some evidence that it happened and that the problem is a real one.

The identity of the primary culprit (there were multiple) was confirmed the day after the incident and the parents of the boys involved have requested that the schools deal with the matter appropriately.

Thanks. Have seen the video now. Here is my take.

To begin I do not condone or support the behavior of the Old Boys who invaded the field to celebrate the try/win.

At the point of invasion, the View number 14 was walking over to join his team at the SW corner when the Joeys old boys came onto the field to embrace the Joeys players. In the rush towards the Joeys players, (who had surrounded the try scorer near the View players) the View 14 was pushed accidentally at first by a spectator and then pushed away in the back by another. The View 14 at the time was away from the on-rushing spectators and is closer to his team. The View 14 chooses to react to the push by turning around, running and throwing a punch at the supporter. The View 14 is then swarmed by spectators who seem to be focused more on getting to the Joeys players and not to the View players. We then see the View 14 being jostled around towards the dead ball line and then falls back sharply as if tripped. There is no visible punch seen to be thrown. He regains his feet very quickly. He is eventually dragged from the crowd by the View number 2 (who himself understandably looks highly agitated) but the View 14 continues to act aggressively as shown by the View 2 holding him back from spectators who seem to be speaking to him. The View 14 shows no sign of being struck. (holding his face etc...) They then all View players walk away. The Joeys players though were swamped and at one stage it looks if some had fallen down under the weight of the old boys.

It was a shame this event occurred but could have been avoided if Riverview provided suitable security. SJC provide 20 security men who patrol the sideline and the old boys crowd. In addition there are 5 police each derby game.

I can confirm that SJC are aware of this incident and steps are being taken to identify those who entered the field. The SJC OBU will also make inquiries and appropriate responses will be made.

Unfortunately it's the nature if the beast that recent Old Boys can act like dickheads especially when they've had a few and egg each other on with some overly enthusiastic barracking.
There's no excuses for some of the behaviour but who hasn't acted like a goose at that age?
Schools have no choice but to employ security to keep a lid on it.
It would be a shame if spectators weren't allowed to go into the field at fulltime.
Hopefully it never gets to that point.

Fairly full footage of 'game of the season', Riverview 25 Joeys 28. As usual I've cut out much of the standing around when the ball is out of play and put in a slow-mo of anything interesting. [It's not the live stream footage]. 51mins viewing time.

I know many others on these forums have praised and thanked sidesteppa for his wonderful work with providing these match videos, but I want to reiterate my thanks for your outstanding efforts - not just for this season, but for the past few seasons - whereby you are giving us G&G members the opportunity to watch these fantastic games of schoolboy rugby; many thanks mate, and I sincerely hope you can continue providing these game copies for many rugby seasons to come.
Enjoy the off season everyone, c u next rugby season!

I wonder if any school has ever won the BIG FOUR. (none of these "lets make it GPS so we can win something" sports)

Rugby, Cricket, Rowing, Athletics.

I know Joeys came close twice...

1932 won Rugby, Rowing and Cricket.
1956 won Rugby, Rowing and Athletics. Runners up in the cricket

Difficult to determine on the basis of:

There hasn't been an overall winner of athletics since 1912 when the Junior trophy was introduced i.e. the senior shield is for seniors only. For example Kings won juniors, intermediates and were second by a point to Scots in the seniors on Saturday, but there's no overall trophy for them to win (which they would have won had it existed)

Similarly, there's no overall pointscore for rowing.

In 1916, Grammar won 1sts rugby, 1sts cricket, senior athletics and the 1st IV rowing, but not the 1st VIII - impossible to tell where they came in the 1st VIII that year.

Not sure if anything fits into this category (none of these "lets make it GPS so we can win something" sports). More recently introduced sports are simply a reflection of the changing demographics at some of the schools and the desire of the AAGPS to better reflect this.

As his replacement will be selected by a committee which looks very much like the one who picked the new guy at Kings and Trinity, some old boys might need to be careful what they wish for. Highly likely that the candidate will be selected on religious grounds. The new head at Kings is the son of an Anglican minister and his deputy is an ordained Anglican minister and the new head at Trinity is an ordained Anglican minister. I note the religious reference in the letter you posted.
