yeah they were smashed in all aspects completely outclassed by NPBH

BSHS play their best rugby when under dogs and lose ever time as favourites - if their injured players make it on to the field by Rd1 they could most definitely win the comp.

They were the only GPS school that "allowed" their students to trial. Even then , not all of them trialled.

2 pathways this year, Schoolboys and Academy, GPS schools as a whole seem to have given the Academy pathway their approval.

I believe they were missing Tuisamoa, Joubert and other key players

They were missing the 3, 6, 7, 8, 13, 15 with a couple others playing out of position - but hey that’s footy, it can happen at anytime during the season so you play with the cards you got

Think about it from this point of view; isn’t it great that QRU are able to view the talent in other areas of the state other than the GPS schools that they may not have had the opportunity to previously! From a regional player perspective outside of the GPS system, this is their chance to make an impression. Who knows, the QLD teams may perform above everyone’s expectations.
Whilst I don’t agree that a school principal can restrict any player from trialling for a state team, the pathway forward could be to the benefit of rugby across the state. This is a transition year and we would imagine this will be fine tuned in coming years.
QRU and RA have had their eyes on GPS players for years, so let’s see what else is out their for the future of QLD rugby. I imagine this concept may help retain some potential talent from migrating over to league.
I think it is important to consider what these decision makers are trying to achieve, rather that focusing on your little Johnny losing an opportunity. If little Johnny is good enough he’ll shine in years to come.
BUT GPS principals should not have the right to restrict (or punish) players from being selected in the QSSS teams. That needs to change next year.

For anything to be successful you need buy in from those affected (players especially) through consultation and discussion prior to making the final call, as I understand it some GPS players are still confused as to why they were advised they could not participate - for a school to make the call with no dialog is just wrong. Let every player who wants to participate trial regardless of whatever school you come from, and as you say if little johnny is good enough he will be selected its not rocket science.

From what I have heard there was not too much objection at Nudgee over this principal’s decision, but I could be wrong. Was there an uproar at other schools?

From what I understand people are upset across all schools including Nudgee - however most are not causing waves whilst 1st XV selection is currently under way. Some players have already been selected into the Academy before the season has even started to give them reassurance hence the reason some of the high level players have not been vocal about it.

All the students at these schools that have the potential to play for 18’s Academies (their 5-6 top players) have already been identified by their schools, and sent up the pathway. These are the same players that previously, would be slogging it out down at Riverview for an Australian Schoolboy spot. There are only ever going to be so many boys selected to represent their school in trials. Not every boy in a 1st XV pre-season squad deserves a shot. This may shock you, but your son might not be the best option in the state. That doesn’t mean he won’t be in the future, but for god’s sake parents need to stop shooting down other boy’s achievements.

Something fishy going on at GT.

^ Tony was heading up the Academy set up at the Reds because he already had a contract with the Reds from 2018.
Ryan has coached in the Qld pathways for some time and has experience in an Academy type set up. You think this should change just because he is now coaching at GT?

Have a little respect for boys who get to wear a Qld jersey, don't belittle it because you don't like it , makes you look cheap , not the jersey.

GT don't need to worry about advertising for enrolments , has been FULL for some time now , did you see last years OP results?

So for someone who is a bit out of it is this the selection options:

Trial to be a schoolboy (Which is not being taken by most GPS schools), trial at riverview and make Aus Schoolboys which will get you a look in at the u18's.

Be put forward by your club to be part of your states academy and play some games for the academy and then be possibly selected for the u18's Aus team?

is this correct? The only issue I see with this is missing those first XV guys who have talent but aren't in that top tier bracket. What happens with these guys?

You know .....strip away all the bullshit and just let the boys sort it out on the field.

Outside of all the frustration as to how some things are done at the end of the day the boys know amongst themselves as to what is what . If the kid really wants it they will keep going - fuckery aside. Probably ultimately makes them a better player

Really good point . You could have 3 or 4 “ studs” in your backline that are superficially pleasing and the best Prop in the age group but may not get much of a look in elsewhere because you’ve got your “quota” ( unofficial ) and a seeming policy of diversity for flag flying sake in non core pockets to fight the Evil Empire ( League ) predominates

Meanwhile you run the risk of disenfranchising what’s already under your nose and you don’t get the highest and best possible level of competition from which to choose - so ultimately , the game suffers
