Div 3 Final
1st grade ROBS vs Iggies - as previously stated cannot see anything than a Deserved ROBs victory here. Ring in or not, Im not sure Iggies have the backline to pile on the points to beat ROBs.

2nd grade HAC vs ROBs - will take HAC to bulldoze their way to victory after Beecroft trounced Iggies last week. HAC by plenty.

Colts - Beecroft vs Iggies - even though they were on the receiving end of a 7-1 try drubbing last week I still think Beecroft will be to strong for Iggies. Only question is Beecroft discipline, can get grubbing when under pressure.

3rd grade Newport vs Iggies - Iggies coming of a brutal encounter which saw them lose 2 players tfor this weekend with blue cards. Will take the big Breakers forward pack to prove the difference in a very tight and tough one.

Just realised I’ve tipped against Iggies in 3 grades so it is likely they’ll win at least 1/3. Hopefully not 3rds

*speaking of team sheets. Any update on this Pfitzy?

Not much to report - he played with us for a few years before going away on his mission (Mormon lad). When he came back he had an itch to play Premier Rugby but couldn't crack Gordon first grade, so headed to Pirates where he had a few mates playing as well.

Pirates finished for the year and they didn't really do that well (last every comp except Shute where they just beat Two Blues). While he had a few starts for their First Grade - all away from memory - he was mostly 2nd Grade.

Working in our favour: the outcome of our game was going to change nothing about the finals series. He was out of position as well, and hardly hurting blokes. Played the first half then had to go to his niece's birthday.

I get the impression he wasn't 100% happy with where the Pirates were at. His brother was playing 3s and 4s over there, and is a gun flanker but kept getting put in the 2nd row.

Something up at Concord...

In any case, we'd love to have them back at our club, so got him a run.

Love it. He is a bloody good kid too. Always looking to help out. I wish him well and hope he finds his way in Shute or at Subbies (which is no doubt at the Rennys) hopefully more of it going forward.

On a side note, is the Subbies preso night going ahead? Who are the nominees?

Didn't get a nod this year - refs obviously all fucked in the head

Redfield v Iggies - Iggies to win this, albeit in a tight one (although I hope I'm wrong). J Jenkins will dominate the non-existent Redfield pack on his own.

First try scorer - J Jenkins
Last try scorer - J Jenkins
Man of the match - J Jenkins

The Redfield #9 is a gun though, maybe he can snipe enough around the ruck to cause problems.

Iggies don't really have any other players of note. Div 3 is weak enough Jenko can win this off his own bat.

Sounds like you have a crush on this guy. Did he play you blokes when you meet Iggies? Surely a mid 30s bloke with a short lived fringe Super Rugby career before disappearing to 2nd Div French rugby cannot prove that much of a handful?

haha have you seen the bloke? I'll be honest, I'd nearly turn... very good looking rooster.

Nah he didn't play either of the games we played them. We had a draw and lost by 1 with a penalty on the bell. They really were not much chop as a side.

Like I said though, I studied the form and they've gone 4 wins 5 losses and draw without him and 5 wins from 5 matches with him (Including beating Redfield). Thats no coincidence. I've played in some similar 1 man teams and at this level (which is getting worse all the time), they just crush it..

I saw on facebook yesterday 5 years since the drawn Newport Brothers Barraclough GF. Can't help but think both those sides would put healthy scores on the top Barraclough sides of 2019.

Div 3 Mid season Wrap

ROBS (1062) Pros: Sitting a top the 1st grade ladder and 3rd in 2s and 3s. Should breeze into finals footy and are a real chance in 1s and 2s for silverware. Playing for a fallen clubman they’ll be motivated.
Cons: Traditionally solid in Colts it is unusual to seem them struggling.

Blacktown (1006) Pros: acquitting themselves well in DIV 3 with strong on field discipline seeing them 2nd in 1s and colts in the 4. 2nds still a chase for semis and numbers strong across the grades
Cons: there aren’t any. Momentum is there’s and I can see them building into the 2nd half of the season.

Newport (992). Pros: in the Top 4 across the grades with their colts a cut above this years competition.
Cons: shocking 2nd round draw sees away games to HAC, HV and Blacktown testing the notoriously poor travellers.

Iggies: (884). Pros: top 4 across the 3 grades and should be every come semis time.
Cons: have previous Form for mid season fades and the tone will be set starting this weekend away against Newport. A good result there and it’s game on for the rest of the season.

Beecroft (842). Pros: 1st in 2nds and 3rds and colts look semi finals bound.
Cons: 1st grade mid table and a few injuries up top could dilute strong 2s and 3s.

HAC (594). Pros: A physical 2nds outfit.
Cons: loss of 6 players to two blues and another 6 retirements has decimated their higher grades. Not a patch on the last few year sides and could struggle late for numbers as teams fall out of contention.

Brothers (378). Pros: 1st grade competitiveness, 4 of last 7 at home.
Cons: player numbers, last start 98-5 and 45-0 lower grade results (@ home) and a game day colts forefeit tell me it’s going to be tough to hold it together for the rest of the season. Bring it home heavyb.

HV (278). Pros: surprisingly the disappointment of 2019 after such a strong season last year but always come home strong and 4/7 at home will help.
Cons: injuries and players drifting away due to losing touch with semis will test their club mettle.

Predictions:
1st grade: GF. ROBS vs Blacktown. Winner ROBS
2nd grade GF. Beecroft vs Newport. Winner Beecroft
Colts GF. Newport vs Blacktown. Winner Newport
3rd Grade GF. Beecroft vs Newport . Winner Newport

Got 6 out of the 8 GF finalists right mid season. Might still get the 4 winners correct.

Div 4: Briars over Berries a bit of an upset in my books. Quins also holding Oatley to zip in 2s was a surprise.

The usual, white player does something and gets a warning. Islander does it he gets a card. The two yellows were soft as was the penalty try. Canterbury were penalised for everything while Briars got away with a lot. Great drop goal to seal it though, and they did dominate the scrum.

I was out there yesterday as well. Canterbury we very lucky not to receive a red card for a spear tackle, and only got yellow. Would hardly call it soft. The other yellow was for taking a players legs out in the air (i think) so warranted once again. Canterbury looked dangerous when they had momentum but briars starved them of possession with great set pieces.

I only heard from someone else who was there that one of the yellows was leaning toward a red, so assume that was the one.

Can't say I've ever noticed any of that kind of racism in Rugby.
