Obviously we all have vested interests in this thread. Let’s just talk about the actual rugby. As I asked before any predictions or stand out players/team combinations we should be looking for?

We should also let all the parents and supporters know about green and gold rugby when you meet them at nationals and try to make it inclusive Australia wide. That way we all get a better picture of how Rugby is going throughput the entire country

I think the Qld Maroon backline will be pretty sharp, if those selected make it down to Canberra. 2 of the boys in the back line played 16s last year. Add in Floyd Aubrey and Mason Gordon and there are plenty of points in the back line. The forward pack is more interesting, the starting flankers will be standouts and would have been easy selections. Who starts at 8 will be interesting. A question of size over mobility, both boys offering something different. It might come down to team balance. Will be interesting to see how the boys selected in the tight 5 perform come scrum time.

I would have thought IGS's Xavier Stowers is a slam dunk at 8. Shouldn't be interesting at all.

Probably he and ACGS's Max Craig are the only U16's forwards that have actually stood up in GPS First XV competition this year and not only held their own but had decent impact

I like Sam Farrar too. Playing well in the firsts. Definitely a better 10 than fullback. Made U16 White last year. I do think the IGS halfback is better than the Nudgee kid. The IGS boy O’Sullivan made Red team last year with another Nudgee kid that doesn’t play a’s This year.
Be good combo Farrar and Mason. Surprised at how many IGS kids made it although their 16’s are going well. No surprises with the lack of depth in selections for the maroon team to take out nationals.

Watched the city/country game as well and I like the Gold Coast kid Fielding who was on the wing is like lightning!! Impressive!! There is a boy in the White team that lives in Emerald Cq area. He made Qld Under 18 this year too. Be interested to see how he goes. Apparently went to school with the halfback from IGS. Be interested to see if they have any moves as well.

Pretty rough on Syris Schmidt and Kaleb Ngamanu if they were available. I mean ..they are only a GPS Opens premiership winning midfield

BBC’s Peron Faimolo also a notable omission

A bit tough on the Terrace 16’s with only 3 players included - where their predominately senior led , 1 x win , First XV - that had 7 players represented in this carnival last year - only featured 2 x U16’s this season

With comments around Gas Budgets and the usual Country bleatings about being hard done by , in addition to , complaints about private school privilege , it seems the feed of the real pathway from 16’s to 18’s to 20’s is more and more working against players and families that think they have an advantage at a GPS School

The death knell of GPS Rugby as we know it is before us

Kaleb Ngamanu is an outstanding young player, remember watching him play under 13 at Gold Coast Carnival in 2016 helped out Wanneroo played along side my Son

Surprised such a low number of BBC under 15 players in these GC teams after watching them pump Nudgee 15 A's, were they unavailable? The under 15 Div 1 GF Norths v Sunnybank was played after selections but based on what I saw, I was surprised by some of the team allocations of some lads and also non selections. Might have been due to availability or GPS school coaches positional selections.

Hi Rugrat

I believe 4 are now in the teams with one unavailable, but some could argue that others were still unlucky.

Cheers

Heard Malique Douthat-Sjoberg pulled out. Be interesting to see who the bring in. He is a great winger played solid this year for firsts
