Ironically I see Joe Powell has been ‘dropped’ to the bench for the Brumbies game.

TSR, to what do you attribute Joe's demotion?

I would welcome your views on the Brumbies/Sunwolves match thread on why Joe is on the bench. Could it be for a rest or has his form dropped off. I have given my thoughts on Tate and an explanation, as I see it, for his inclusion on the bench, so I would be interested to see your thoughts backed up with reasons for Joe this week.

But in the appropriate place, if you will.

You misread me. Me and I think most others are having a subtle dig at you because we don't think Joe Powell is ever likely to be the first choice Wallaby halfback for any length of time.

I'm unsure why you wouldn't consider Nic White. I don't think anyone else will be surprised if he is the first choice Wallaby halfback this year.

But hopefully not during the July test matches if he's not back in the country by then. And of course, even if he is, he won't be playing Super Rugby as I'm sure the season will have finished by then.

I still think the general thrust of most of the comments is odd. I didn't mention test matches or likely Wallabies' No 9 at all. My comment was directed solely at Tate's "demotion" and his form last week.

I dont't think he has been dropped. That was the point of the quotation marks. I am guessing that McKellar, like Thorn, is building depth through his squad and that, like Thorn, he is fortunate that he has a back up half he has confidence in.

I won't be surprised in both McDermott & Powell play a number of games from the bench, nor will I be stunned if either of their back ups push their nose in front in the pecking order.

Lot of chat about shit not related to the actual game going on

I get what your saying but, to be fair, the games not going on. If it was I'd be less bored and I'm sure we'd be talking about that.

I do take your point though.

To be fair I think Powell had some off passing for a few weeks, and Lonergan actually improved the game when he came on. Its a battle to for the 9 at the Brumbies, but Powell is tried and tested so has the jump. But this should be in the Brumbies thread... Tate for what it's worth I dont think is as good as some think but not as bad as others think.

With regards to this being the game thread - the whole conversation started around Thorn’s selection of Tate on the bench and went into a comparison of the comparative selection of Powell.

I dunno - there has been a few posts specific to Powell and I apologise if I’ve taken it too far off track - but it really didn’t seem that much of a divergence to me.

Thorn is clearly going to bring Tate on early in the 2nd half to be a menace around the fringes of the rucks. It's a bold strategy that likely won't pay off. Maloa and Lucas spend a lot of time training together, that's also why Maloa is getting the nod right now. Him and Lucas have more time together.

Clearly if you want to talk about possible Wallabies halfbacks you should use the apporpriate thread.

A breezy evening in Cheechee & it's coming from an unusual direction which could play havoc with the kicking games. Reds will have it more-or-less at their backs first.

Dismal will be pleased to know that both TJ & Mr Boomfa are in the Comms box which probably means it'll be Nisbo & possibly Smithy (cricket season having ended) in Wellywood tomorrow night :).

Joe Moody scores under back-to-back scrum penalty advantage. Reckon Rasta Mon was heading for the sticks to award a PT had Moody not gone over right in front of him. Mo'unga adds the extras, 7-0.

CFS in, shocking exit from the Crusaders and Reds score through the hands after a line out from a penalty. Nice pass from Jock.

Reds bring LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) down slow from the lineout and Crusaders engage early for penalty advantage. Doesn't matter in the end as classy hands put CFS in for a try.

No separation so that's a try, I think.

Yep, 10-10 with kick to come. Which gets caught by that odd-angle wind & goes wide left.
