Congratulations BBC on the win. A professional effort.

The JACK “ LOSS “ GHOSTS and the other BUTCHERS OF BANYO strike!

Now terrace THAT is why they got the butchers stripes.Mince in the boarding house tonight. For all the big talking about NUDGEE Are NUDGEE ,Pope says Nope, God wears Butchers stripes, it looks more like NUDGEE were beaten, Pope get the rope, God wears Green black white tonight.

The Blue and Grey Viking ship sails on with an unbeaten melodic drumbeat, sailing over TGS without a sweat, And are starting to become ruthless assassins, plundering all since the Gt ambush...... and the Sharks despite their failing momentum in the season,Mauled and accounted for the Ippy lads.

Don’t tell me BSHS are finding form at the end of the season...... and all they can hope for is ruining BBC season Next week.....and lives. BGS shake my head.

I am thinking Tss has the bye next week , so finish with one loss to BBC and likely finish second , Churchie play Banyo School of Academic Excellence and MEAT emporium next week and if the Vikings pull off a win, will record one loss against Gt also finishing 2nd. If NUDGEE win against Churchie, NUDGEE replaces Churchie and tie with TSS for second ,and Churchie move to third spot/fourth overall. NUDGEE though must be real favourites for that one.

If BBC somehow choke against BSHS. It will be either BBC,TSS, NUDGEE or BBC TSS CHURCHIE in a drawn premiership.

Churchie must be regretting the two red cards against Terrace otherwise BBC would be sharing with just them, if ACGS Somehow beat NUDGEE.

Could there be one more twist in this season- not likely but still interesting final round next week. Looking forward to seeing how much sting has been removed from NUDGEE Forward pack next week. They looked knackered at the end today , but gave their best.

What an intriguing game today was. BBC came out of the sheds like braveheart, but then had to absorb a boots and all lead at half time by NUDGEE. But that was smart. NUDGEE got out NUDGEE’d . BBC absorbed and then The BBC 10 and fullback got to work with their kicking boots with the wind behind them in the second half, and the Mongrel in the NUDGEE forward pack was removed and replaced by some panting Labrador’s gasping for breath and cramping up by the end of the games. It’s becoming to hot for big forward packs. A lesson for Churchie to do homework on.

BBC forwards absolutely did a NUMBER ON THEM today In the second half , and handed the keys to Churchie on how to beat the Badly bruised banyo boys who will have Ice packs and mince on toast tonight. They truely gave their all, but BBC ‘cheque book “was better.

Congratulations BBC.

BRISBANE Boy’s College’s premiership winning coach from 66 years ago watched College’s First XV storm to within one match of a maiden outright premiership against Nudgee College.

BBC cannot lose the title after beating St Joseph’s Nudgee College 33-22, but need to win their last match against BSHS to ensure they claim the premiership outright.

Graham Thompson was mentor of the 1954 outfit which claimed a joint GPS First XV title.

This afternoon Thompson, immaculate in a dark suit, posed for photos with BBC captain Mason Gordon whose kicking prowess was on show from the first minute until the last.

Then, ushered into the winning team photo, Thompson addressed the team and such was the First XV’s respect for his utterings, you could have heard a pin drop while celebrations rained down around them from supporters.

“I am so pleased this team has broken the drought,’’ Thompson said.

“Sixty-six years ago was the last time, and I thought their performance today was the far superior to what my team was.’’

BBC could do it all this season.

The 2020 team had pace, a wide passing game, attacking maul and aggression at the breakdown and also a No.10 in Sunshine Coast border Mason Gordon who could kick the leather off the ball if needed.

And the side needed all of that today to defeat a gallant Nudgee College.

“We spoke a lot about that during the week, that it is going to be a game won all around the park.

“We have the strike out wide, we have the maul, so really we just left it to the decision makers, particularly Mason who played a beautiful game.’’

Draham had played in some big games in his career, but even he got caught up in the emotion, the unbridled scenes of joy, which were unfurled when the referee blew his full-time whistle.

With COVID-19 restricting spectators at the ground to parents, officials and the like, crowds watched from outside in Miskin St where a BBC old boy army chanted and screamed.

Then high up on the cliff, BBC war cries would carry across the playing field as the BBC school students hit top note.

It was indeed a win for the ages.

But Draham said there was one more win needed next week against BBC.

“I am not going to put the hoodoo on it.

“We have set it up now to win the premiership next week.

“We will let them (the players) enjoy this, we can’t lose the premiership now, but hopefully next week we finish it off.’’

THE MATCH

The desperation of Nudgee College was evident early when winger Robert Mapa amazingly tackled BBC winger Jarrod Homan into touch centimetres before the tryline.

From there Nudgee used the wind behind their back and dominated the first half-hour of the match.

Benn Dalle-Court was fantastic with the ball and with his boot before a decoy to Lastus Auakai found winger Sione Fapuosi on the inside.

Fapuosi drew in the defence before a brilliant right-hand offload to Mapa who scored in the corner.

It wasn’t long until Nudgee hit back this time through some heads up play from scrum half Oscar Varricchio who took a quick tap on halfway.

He offloaded to Dalle-Cout who beat several players to score a magnificent try.

It would take something major from BBC to shift the momentum and it came through some fantastic break down work, forcing a penalty.

BBC had minutes to score before the half and Nudgee weren’t giving in, but not many can hold out Jack Howarth.

The competitions most dangerous ball runner streamed over to score with just five points the difference going into halftime 12-7.

The second half was a completely different game.

BBC were unstoppable.

Three tries in nine minutes to Howarth, Homan and hooker Uhila Senituli came as the BBC forwards dominated the backline.

Gordon was nothing short of spectacular during the contest, making crucial tackles, deadly with the ball and controlled field position with his kicking game.

Despite losing Fapuosi to a serious leg injury, Nudgee picked up the pieces and started to fight against the wind.

They piled the pressure on the BBC line and went over from close range through …. With 15 minutes left.

But arguably the best BBC side in the school’s history weren’t letting up.

The side kept the pressure on and scored through prop Harvey Guest with 10 minutes left.

BBC’s first outright premiership was at the tip of their fingers.

Nudgee substitute Hubert Elu had a blistering run and got them in the position to go over again through outside centre Robert Toia.

But it wasn’t to be.

SCORE

BBC 33 (J Howarth 2, J Homan, U Senituli, H Guest conversions H Mclaughlin-Phillips 4/5) Nudgee 22 (R Mapa, B Dalle Cort, O Davey-Phillips, R Toia, conversions B Dalle Cort 1/4)

An honest question...why does Churchie associate itself with Vikings? Didn’t the Vikings from the Nordic countries invade England rather than the other way round?

I think you'll find Gordon will control and manage the game better. He seems to be level headed and won't make bad decisions under pressure, also a very underrated defender, kid can tackle. He'll be a big factor in BBC's defence in their backline tomorrow. But if it comes down to kicking, Dallecourt's boot may be handy.

I repeat, the kid can tackle. Congrats BBC

The Viking Magnus (magnus quadrangle @ churchie )was the first Christian viking. Believed to be son of Ragnov. They conquered many countries including England and their english raids were where the Christian influence came from, amongst Vikings.

I hope that helps but you may have to watch the rest of the series yourself. Here is a clip of Magnus converting to Anglicanism. It is believed to have saved him.

They were good rowers too.

Now back to Rugby- history is over

I have been hunting for reaction by giving NUDGEE a hard time (no bites from their supporters) but you have to hand it to their team, they took it to BBC today- threw the kitchen sink at them!

There were some outstanding individual performances for them today. Jones for mine never stopped trying, and Mapa was one for mine, who was the outstanding back who went looking for work. He gave his all for his school today - commendable performance and my man of the match.

There were also a number of spectacular runs where the dazzling footwork and speed were on show from the backline. If not for that ankle tap by Perceval for BBC , it could have been a very different result.

I think I would have to take back my under handed comment about this being the poorest 15 NUDGEE has fielded . It was truely a gutsy performance against a true class outfit. NUDGEE should be proud of what they achieved today, but BBC deserved their win.

NUDGEE supporters are too mature to bite at my deliberate jibes- well done guys

The pre-game and in-game jibes are all part of the fun. That’s very nice sentiment post-game in your message and what it’s all about ultimately.

I can honestly say, all of my Nudgee contacts, including family, were of the same view before this game i.e. that we wanted to see a Nudgee victory, as we love this, but we thought BBC would most likely get the win and that they would deserve the win. The speeches after the match were very magnanimous from Mason Gordon at BBC, very moving by Halley Appleby’s mother (this game is now named after her son who played for Nudgee and UQ who passed away playing rugby) and gracious by the Nudgee captain.

BBC is a great school, and I like how it focuses on its traditions and culture. There was a new rivalry born today i.e. the Nudgee BBC rugby rivalry. Nudgee will love this. I hope it grows from here, but I think the rugby god wanted this victory today for BBC.

Best of luck to BBC next week, I hope you win this outright.

Next season, at Ross, wow, I’m already thinking Nudgee will shift the Old Boys’ day to this match.

Another train wreck of a weekend for the tippers with most folks tipping under 50% successfully.

Greenhorn has shown again that he is anything but a Greenhorn by picking 4/4. The only punter to do that this week. Nobody predicted the winning margin and with one round left, the comp is his to loose
