Shute Shield 2020

I was at the Gordon v Norths game today. I was really impressed by Norths and how composed they were. Deserved winners although could have gone the other way. Gordon look like they are relying on a few players to win. North’s Gordon final very conceivable.

I couldn't make it but it looked to be a decent turnout. The pitch didn't look in the best of shape?

I feel like some of those returning Tah players will get into sync with the rest of the team before the finals. You could see players like Walton hunting. Tend to agree re: Gordon relying on a few players. You can see the difference with North having a core/partnerships thats been together longer. I actually think the loss will be good for Gordon.

Does anyone know what the go is with Cluch TV?

We were getting every SS match on delay on Sunday. The only one I can find is the Norths/Gordon match.

Are the others happening?

I think (and hope) thats a pretty fair summation of where Gordon are at right now. Walton tried hard but didnt really click with Iona. Quite a few balls went to ground due to bad timing plus good defensive pressure. They have also moved their hooker to 6 to accomodate Abel which might take some time to gel. Norths just looked really well drilled so Gordon know what level they need to get to to win the comp.

It was a really decent turnout - the bins were full of empty cans before the end of the game so the treasurer should be pretty happy!

As for the pitch - I reckon the cricketers will be absolutely livid at the moment. Not only is Chatswood Oval a quagmire, but Beauchamp Oval (backup ground) is an absolute mess too. I wouldnt want to be batting there at the start of the season thats for sure.

Not much fun playing rugby on cricket pitches when the ground dries out, either. Council owned multi-purpose ovals might be good for the game, in that they are probably pretty cheap to rent, but not good for the players.

I may have heard incorrectly, but a brief radio piece ran about possible relaxation of crowd restrictions. Could make for a bigger crowd at Leichhardt Oval.

I think that's a great result - was hoping it wasn't at Bankwest.
a 3 o'clock game in front of 10k in the sun would be glorious.

I've been told bad things about the cricket pitch on North Sydney Oval back in the 50s and early 60s. Apparently the variety of grass would get into cuts and infect them?

I picked up a pretty bad golden staph infection at the old Eastwood Oval, it also had a cricket pitch. Not sure whether it was the grass, or fertiliser, or what?

Top 6 appear set, in the same form as it seemed set to me 6 weeks or so ago.

Easts and Uni each have a game against WSTB and its hard to see either of them losing those games.

Warringah have Eastwood and Norths and they would need to win both of those to have a hope

Souths have Manly and Wests and could be expected to win both of those which gives them a sniff. Norths v Uni this week is the critical fixture. If Uni win they should cling on to 6th, if they lose to Norths and Souths win both then there's a chance Uni could miss the semis for the first time in a very long time.

A couple of locks stood tall in the Norths/South's game. Don't know their names or backgrounds, but the No 5 and No 19 for South's both were big units and looked to play with physicality while the blond haired lock for Norths was quite skillful. Surely there are some running around who could be of interest to the Tahs?
