Rugby Championship in an Aussie bubble?

The broadcasters would probably pay something for it, just not the equivalent of having the Springboks there. So it would be subject to separate negotiations. Other than that, sponsors, ticketing etc.

I wonder how much the French clubs kicking up a stink contributed to all this.

Will we see SA in a 8 nations later this year?

Well they are. Them's the terms, regardless of the Interweb's outrage.

Pretty sure the terms also dictate South Africa have to play, that didn’t stop them pulling out.
Remaining unions are well within their rights to deny South Africa a cut of broadcast revenue for tournament they aren’t participating.

It’s delusional that South Africa expect any money for something which they aren’t participating.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that South Africa expect any money for something which they aren’t participating.

and actively have hindered and added costs to.

Will be curious to see what McLennan says after SARU, by the own admission, has said we've bent over backwards.

From the article:

"The South African-based portion of what was a 46-player squad was scheduled to fly from Johannesburg on Sunday."

When were they planning to name said 46-player squad? Given that Duane Vermuelen, who one could reasonably assume would have been one of them, is on record as recently as earlier this week saying that players hadn't yet been contacted?

I'm beginning to think that whilst the SA Green & SA Gold teams were in camp for the bokke Trial players were asked "who wants to go to Aussie for ten weeks?" & not enough of them said "yes" for SARU's comfort.

I wonder if they followed that up with a question about whether they wanted to be paid in full this year
