QLD Premier Rugby 2020

Easts too good, best team all year.

So is that the last three years the team straight through to GF has copped the loss?

The scrum was really the difference and set the platform in the second half. Not to be rude to the UQ guys but were they best props available or others injured? They were clearly outmatched all game and I would have thought that was a key part of the game to work on.

I'm most happy that Ben Mowen could go out with a club premiership win. He's a rare breed of player in the modern world and well deserves this long cherished achievement.

Great win for the Tigers today, who also won 5 other premierships.

Also very pleasing to see Ben Mowen snag a Grand Final as he hangs up his boots.

With Saturday's result thrown in, an excellent weekend all round!

Who was last club to grab 1st, 2nds and 3rds Premierships? Maybe Brothers a few years ago.

Shows some serious depth at Easts, very impressive. I think a lot of the bigger clubs clubs over the years would have snagged plenty in the 2nds - 5ths range as you can get depth there just through sheer player numbers, but to have a team good enough in 1sts as well is pretty special.

Bad weekend for the Students with none of the teams winning.

Really enjoyed the season and well done QRU for making it happen. So good to have rugby to watch.

Well done Happyman for winning the tipping comp. I'll post the full table some time today. Thanks to everyone who got involved, it makes the season more enjoyable from my point of view when I have some interest in the outcome of games.

Bring on 2021 and hopefully a full season of club rugby.

I was interested to see Brayden Schiller at the game yesterday hanging out with the Easts Supporters. Be interesting to see if he continues with league or makes a return to Union next year?

Agreed, be interested to see how many of that forward pack are around next year.
Rhys Van Nek off to the Rebels along with Emosi Tuqiri from Jeeps.

Rhys was a massive part of their scrum dominance yesterday , around the park thought the forward packs were quite evenly matched .

Scrum time Easts dominated , Rhys also threw the lineout , which he did a lot more accurately than Nasser.

Nasser overthrow before half time that lead to a try and the scrum dominance that lead to a yellow and then a penalty try in the final 20mins ended up being match deciding.

But to answer your question , at least Van Rek and Mowen won’t be there, could be more.

Thank you to the Double Take team who covered the GFs on YouTube. The commentary was colourful and the camera work was topical and unfiltered!!

Highlights:

- arrest of Tiger mascot by security and subsequent comment "was that Tyrell Barker?"
- comment that Easts are the loosest supporter base (accurate)
- the Tiger supporters in their hundreds challenging the 20 blokes from UQ
- another arrest of a Tiger fan
- the Colts GF was a great game ebbing and flowing with drama to the end

Easts would have been the envy of most club rugby supporters yesterday. Well done on the 6 wins and the thousand beers drunk on XXXX hill. Nobody got hurt and everyone was happy on a memorable QRU club rugby GF day.

Is the fact that Uni and Brothers dominate the colts competitions with 7 of 8 grand finalists between them a concern.

I say that we (other clubs) just need to be better not bitter.

It does seem strange that Mac Grearly is at Uni given his older brother is at Easts.

I don't know why but Uni do seem to get first option on guys coming out of school.

They do indeed. Why? They recruit hard and letters are posted. They keep an eye on school boy talent unlike some clubs that rely on one or two schools to supply their Colts grades.

GPS were quick to make these announcements weren't they.

Good to see Steve Meehan back in Ashgrove. I wonder who they'll get as coach.

I'm not sure he officially was shown the door? Or just went onto something else.

Regardless, I think the GPS team got figured out these last few years. They were always backing their strong set piece, but even that became unstuck this season with their scrum and lineout really breaking down towards the back end of the year. The backs for the most part have been largely mediocre with a strong emphasis on forward dominance.

I think there will be a fair bit of movement in the offseason - not sure what Fred Burke and Gorman will do re retirement. Also Emosi Tuquiri off to the Rebels and Felemi may end up in the Reds 23 more often. So they will need to restructure their team especially in the forwards.
